This place is on point and offers everything from extensions, custom color,(no Dark and Lovely here) natural hair care, eyelashes, men’s cuts, relaxers, keratin treatments… Service is great — you won’t spend 4 hours here waiting. This has to be the only salon in Chicago that doesn’t overbook.

I’ve had my hair done 3 times with Stephanie and I am pleased. She gets you in and out of the salon. All the stylists work together and support each other for the benefit of the client. I had my hair rinsed and molded by another stylist as Stephanie was wrapping up another client. I appreciate them all working together. I got a wash, set, and cut and was still out of the salon in 2 hours. I appreciate their fast, courteous, and professional, service.

I have been a client of the Abyss for the past 5 years. My stylist is Sharron. I remain loyal to this salon because Sharron goes to any length to make sure that my hair is healthy, looks great, and is in a style that fits my life. The staff provides great customer service, and is conscious of their client’s time. They ensure you in and out in a timely matter. The Abyss offers a professional environment filled with laughter. Check it out!

Well, I understand where the name comes from, for my visit was a 5 hour descent through hell. I was looking forward to having my hair done here. The woman I made the appointment with(in person) seemed knowledgeable and confident, and I assumed I’d be in and out within 1.5 — 2 hours(which is how long it takes when I get retouched). As mentioned, it was a bit over 5 hours total. Throughout my time there, she seemed to be trying to sell me other products, too, which really made me feel uncomfortable; asking if I took vacations, that she and her husband did travel agent work and they had people working under them… really, all I could do was kind of sit there in an uncomfortable silence. My hair ended up in such bad shape that I was truly at a loss for words, and left the salon in tears. I always thought that was an over exaggeration to hear people say they had done that, but now I have a new perspective. It was not anywhere near the color of the highlights I had when I entered the salon. The first time around, it was almost strawberry-blond color; I told her that it looked really brassy to me, and she was surprised. She toned it and worked on it again; this time, my hair was a bright yellow color, with one half of my head the yellow and the other half with some of the blond, but a lot more of my original dark hair color showing through — the two sides didn’t match in the amount of color, which isn’t even something I noticed until after leaving. As I said, I didn’t know what to say or how to react to what I was saw. I didn’t even want her to touch my hair any longer, even though I was embarrassed to walk around with my hair that way. I paid for the service, because I didn’t know what else to do, but I didn’t leave any tip. I’m still disgusted when I think of this experience, and wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemy. In my estimation, giving this establishment a single star is being generous.
