The Book of Mormon

My girlfriend and I saw this show on 11÷15÷15, at the Hippodrome Theatre in Baltimore. It was something… INCREDIBLE! This show will truly change your life. The first thing we said when it ended was that we wanted to see it again. The actors were fantastic, the sets were great, the songs and story were hysterical, everything about it was perfect! As South Park fans, we also picked up on a few references to the show throughout the musical. We met some of the actors afterwards, including David Larsen and Cody Jamison Strand. They were all super friendly. You MUST SEE THIS SHOW! My favorite moments were «Baptize Me», «Turn It Off», «Joseph Smith American Moses», «Man Up», «I Am Africa», and «Spooky Mormon Hell Dream!»

I told myself I have to listen to another Book of Mormon commercial while watching south park one more time I’m going to leave a bad review on Unilocal.
So here it is.

So my sister this review. She thought it was SOOOO South Park and she lived it. Potty Humor.
I liked it. I thought it was funny. We were in the last row of the second balcony and i lost some of the words because of the pace. The premise of the story was hysterical. Elder Cunningham was the best character. The general butt fucking naked and all the characters from Africa were great! Singing was beautiful. Great use of foul language.

When Book of Mormon first started to tour they did a few weeks in Denver and I actually saw it there (a couple years ago). I thoroughly enjoyed it and wanted to experience it again, so on a recent trip to Chicago we got tickets.
I have to say it was as funny as I remember. It does have some crude and borderline jokes, but it is the South Park guys, you kind of know what you are getting going in. I absolutely love the soundtrack for BOM and have it on my iPhone. I loved this casts delivery and enthusiasm.
It is a really fun show! I liked it so much I saw it twice :)

We saw the Book of Mormon when they were in Denver a couple years ago (when tickets were almost impossible to come by) and loved it so much that when we saw they were on their last weekend in CHI when we were coming in that we just had to go.
Absolutely loved it. The theater is small enough that there are really no bad seats and the accoustics were great.

I much prefer South Park.
The humor here was below childish, a lot of «f u God» and some other lousy humor. Almost as boring as Redd Fox used to be with his «you gotsta wash your A$$ routine» he did in Vegas for 30 years.
Enjoying the second half of the show outside smoking a cigar. LOL.

Go into this musical with an open mind and light heart. I thought the music was absolutely fantastic. I was obsessed with the soundtrack for a good week after attending.
Yes, a lot of the topics in this show can be offensive to certain people, but what do you expect from the creators of South Park? The plot was extremely easy to follow and I learned a lot about the Mormon religion. I had a couple of Mormon friends in high school, and never really understood how important their faith was to them. Although the musical makes it a point to poke a little bit of fun, I admire how much belief these people have.
I thought the end was great. They found an awesome way to circle back to the beginning of the show.
Oh! And a tip if you want to see the show before it closes: The Bank of America Theatre is a relatively small venue. You don’t have to spend a ton of money on an orchestra seat ticket to be able to get a lot out of the show. My friend sat in the «nosebleeds» and was still able to see everything going on onstage. I spent about $ 179 for an orchestra seat, but it’s because my eyesight sucks and it was my birthday present to myself. (Treat yo’self!)

Surprised my boo with tickets to see The Book of Mormon, though it was more of a treat for me. I got our tickets (orchestra left side, row Q, seats 1 & 3 for $ 79 each) via the Broadway in Chicago website, which was much cheaper than going through Ticketmaster.
The show was spectacular! One of the best musicals I have ever seen. I highly recommend you see this musical if you like laughing a lot and being fully entertained.

Amazing. Wonderful. Talented actors. One of my best nights ever – thank you for making my 29^th birthday incredibly memorable. I left with smeared make-​up from cry/​laughing and my belly hurt so bad from laughing all night.
Only downside: Bank of America Theater needs more bathrooms!

We were extremely disappointed with the Book of Mormon. I love laughing at Mormons as much as anyone. But this was 15 minutes of mediocre and obvious material stretched out into 2 ½ hours of theatrical torture.
It was hard to tell if this was a musical, or a parody of the musical theater. The music was lifted from other broadway shows and wasn’t original at all.
And I didn’t realize that being Mormon meant you needed to be gay, too. Believe me, none of these «actors» will be at Second City or other legitimate theater anytime soon.
Much of the dialog was unintelligible, and the sound overall was just too loud.

Hm… i dont know what to say. I thought it was ok. I wonder it is because i had the highest hopes. Maybe because i bought the tickets 2 months in advance and stoked myself up. Was it because everyone says its riot so I thought I was going to gain abs? I dont know. I think I have a good sense of humor and I dont get offended easily. To top it off I am an atheist, I make jokes about Jesus ALL the time, so much that friends have disowned me. It’s a topic we dont bring up because I am bound to offend somebody. Because of that I thought I was going to love it but it wasnt hysterical like everyone said it was, at least to me.
I hate writing this review for the fear of sounding pretentious but I just didnt think it was all that great. It had funny parts but still kept wondering when it was going to get better. The opening was fantastic and Elder Cunningham just made the show but my socks were not blown off. I had heard the jokes before and felt like it was geared toward an older audience.
We had good seats. We sat at the beginning rows in the dress rehearsal area (i think thats what its called) so its not like we didnt see the facial experessions or missed out parts of the show by the obscured areas.
One advice to the people that are looking for tickets right now, dont buy tickets from the BOA theater. They are a rip off, get them from ticketmaster.

Book of Mormon did not disappoint! I laughed and laughed and cringed a few times but oh it was worth it. The character of Elder Cunningham killed it with his ridiculously awkward and nerdy rockstar portrayal.
Great music, fun for anyone that needs to laugh at organized religion once in awhile.

I knew the Book of Mormon was going to be in your face and slightly offensive. I’m familiar with the writers’ work so thought I was prepared. Nothing could ever prepare me for this…
First of all, the acting was amazing. There are most definitely some rising stars in this cast with beautiful vocals who deserve every bit of Broadway fame they receive.
My mom and I came here for her visit in Chicago. We had pretty good seats in the Mezzanine, I heard quite a few people complaining that the bottom floor (orchestra) had a giant beam in the way, so I would do your research before you buy these seats. (Thanks mom, for picking up my slack and selecting an awesome spot).
I’m a theater nerd so I’ve seen quite a few shows — this was one of the most professional. Everything moved effortlessly on the stage including the changes of scenery and costumes.
If you are religious, young, old, black, white, gay or straight — this will definitely offend you in some ways. I even fit in some of the categories they mocked but I’m a good sport and found it hilairous.
The man next to me was very shocked and very obviously, not enjoying the show. I suppose I could understand this if you didnt know what you were getting into. For the most part, everyone was getting a good laugh.
If you have a dark and laid back sense of humor, you will love this! Be prepared to say the words «that’s so not right» quite often. Overall, it’s incredibly entertaining and there isn’t one scene that I didn’t thoroughly enjoy.

Funny, funny stuff. Great show and good crowd, except for the older lady behind us that hacked throughout the play and rarely if ever covered her mouth. Literally felt the wind from her cough on my head.
The show, in typical South Park fashion, made fun of everything and everyone. Lots of shots taken at all politics and religions.
I did not like the raising money for charities at the end of the show and the people lined up asking for money. I appreciate the cause and the community effort, but don’t drag it out after the show and keep me longer after the show.

I have never been to a musical before so I did not know what to expect, but from all the hype it was driving I had high expectations. And those high expectations were exceeded! This was a 2year anniversary present my girlfriend bought for me and I had the best time. I am sure that k will continue to go to musicals and live performances after this.
The show was hilarious, but not for the sensitive and I wouldn’t go see it with your parents. The theatre is also a lot smaller than what you would think which is a good thing for a live performance, so even the cheap seats had a good view.
MUST SEE!

If you love South Park then you will love the Book of Mormon. But if you don’t like a lot bad language and get easily offended then this is not the musical for you.
My friend wanted to see it and I said why not go see what all the rave is about and I LOVE musicals. I will admit some parts of the show was funny, but much of the show hit me hard and was pretty offensive. And to be honest unless you aren’t human, have no feels and you are honest the show offends everyone.
I was extremely surprised to see so many black actors in the musical, since I know black people were not allowed to be a Mormon until the late 70s. Not surprised we were there among a few other brave minorities who came to see the show. I would rate it a 1 star, but I do love musicals and the actors were not bad and the singing of the main male and female actors were fab and the other main male character was funny. But just can’t give it three stars.
It was interesting to watch the audience laugh at offensive lines/​statements that happen everyday and can be hurtful. Is it really that funny?
After seeing the BoM I would love to sit in a room with a diverse group of people and listen to what offended them and why and what were their thoughts overall. Probably could break down a lot of racial, cultural and gender walls that keep us as a world divided.
I can’t say I regret seeing it, but I can say I left thinking about the world we live in.

Stupid stupid and more stupid; crass — and I do like irreverent humor. Just not worth the time and money; and the Bank of America Theater is awful — stairs!!!
poor views; just felt as though the whole theater was squeezed up from the sides toward the top. The performers did very well — talented etc. but this subject matter just not up to this kind of production. I am not a prude but there is one line in this play that is VERY rude.

I don’t watch South Park, nor do I understand religion in any context. My review is based purely on my opinion in terms of my enjoyment of the play. And honestly, it really feels like a 3 out of 5 stars. The Book Of Mormon had outrageously hilarious moments and catchy tunes, but it also had a lot of slow parts. First act’s primary focus was to build up the characters and provide the audience with the slapstick humor of how the religion was founded, which I thought was slow and somewhat dry. The second act was full of ridiculousness and went by fast. I suppose there is a lesson you’re suppose to learn from the show, and it’s pretty much it’s ok to lie if it’s meant to bring a little bit of hope to people. The actors did a great job in their performance, but the story overall wasn’t the greatest.

Great show! Had a lot of laughs, I’m glad it came back to Chicago. This is not a show for kids and was really shocked to see some in the audience. They had to be around eight years old, again not for kids. The performers were great, they danced and sang wonderfully. The only think I didn’t like was the Bank of America Theatre. It’s really cramped there, the people behind me kept hitting my seat. And the girl next to me kept elbowing me.
