The Chicago Bridge Center is the only free-standing location — club, as it were — in metropolitan Chicago that has regular duplicate bridge games. The Bridge Center is for duplicate bridge only. Players who are completely new to duplicate bridge are free to enter any event. There is no entrance requirement whatsoever. Alternatively, the Center can provide referrals for instruction and other resources. Playing conditions are outstanding, although ambient temperature is sometimes a bit off in extreme weather. Check with the director or with other players if you suspect that the room might be uncomfortably warm or cold for you on any given day. The light is excellent. Equipment is very good. There is plenty of playing space, so games never feel crowded. As with most clubs, there is a reasonable mixture of experienced players and more casual players. On certain days the facility is devoted to the development of youth bridge in Chicago. The club’s atmosphere is genteel, and the club directors, as well as the patrons themselves, keep it that way. Out of town visitors, in fact, any visitor, is welcomed warmly by all. See the web site for the current game schedule. For any other questions, call the Center. In my opinion the club directors and managers are competent and run the club, and the games, well. It surprises me that players can have diverse opinions about this subject, when it is, after all, pretty measurable, objectively. However, I will state my opinion and leave it at that. The Chicago Bridge Center enjoys a location that is a short El ride or cab ride from the Loop. For those who drive, there is a parking lot(validated tickets at a nominal rate). I highly recommend the Chicago Bridge Center for first time players, or out of town visitors, who are looking for a duplicate bridge game. It is a good place to be introduced to the Chicago area bridge scene, or simply to have a game on a given day or evening.
