I always appreciate non-franchised fast food places with drive-thru. This was my first time and I dined in while waiting for the bus(so conveniently located a few feet from the bus stop). I had a hot dog and fries, which cost a little over $ 3. Not bad. It was a short wait for my food. The fries were perfectly crisp and not oily or soggy at all. The hot dog was classic Chicago style with the poppyseed bun and everything. So glad I stopped in. I’ll definitely be back… Maybe to try the drive thru next time!

Hmmm the Italian beef was good. They put plenty of beef which I like but it just wasn’t that flavorful. The giardinera wasn’t anything special and the fries were not hand cut, probably bagged and frozen. It was just ok, don’t think I’ll be back.

Let Rosa J. shared the background information with you… «On April 18th., 2015, Rosa J. was seduced by some Amway people to one of their conferences in downtown Chicago. However, she successfully escaped from the meeting room, got on the blue line train at the La Salle station, and headed west side so that those out-of-town people wouldn’t be able to locate her whereabout.» When she was on the CTA77(Belmont) bus that day, her Hawkeyes saw two(2) Chicago PD cops came out of «The Dog Stop» and got back on their police vehicle. Ok, cops’ taste buds are typically sharp, and I bet that finding good places to eats is part of their written examinations. Let’s trust our police officers, just for the food. Hubby and I went in and were worried if this place was cash-only. They do accept visa and master cards so we were safe. The menu is consisted of Chicagoan eats(Chicago-style dogs and Italian beef sandwiches), famous American fattening food(burgers, onion rings, and fries), and some Greek-Mexican-American super junkie fusions(tacos, gyros, and anything high on calories). I know you want some of them, don’t you? We all have the craves for those bad boys. We went with the value meal combos: ¼ pound cheese burger and homemade Italian beef sandwich. They all came with fountain pops and fries. The vegetarian options were pretty limited, so hubby chose the dangerous path and consumed meat. I didn’t like or hate the burger. Don’t get me wrong; I felt the burger was way better than that place where the spokesperson dresses«yellow and red.» Nevertheless, that burger was average and was certainly passable in the neighborhood standard. Hubby said his Italian beef sandwich wasn’t extraordinarily tasty, but everything we had this afternoon was good, but not special. I wasn’t too thrilled with this place, but parking is absolutely ample. A drive-thru is available for patrons’ convenience. The dining room was clean, and Chicago Cubs were playing while we were munching. I didn’t have much to complain about. I’m just that easy to please… thank you very much. I don’t know if I would want to happily rush back, but it’s a solid alternative option if the surrounding restaurants are full on a weekend or a holiday.

Definitely get a fry pan and a milkshake, that’s what I got and it was delicious. I will be going again soon.

If you’re looking for great tasting beef sandwiches make this restaurant your stop! I ordered a beef sandwich and I have to say it was absolutely phenomenal tasting! Another bonus was just walking into this establishment and being greeted very politely with good energy. Also the service was also exceptional. Overall the experience was very delightful and I will make sure to recommend this restaurant to my friends and family!!!

The Dog Stop fits this neighborhood. This place has been here since I can remember at least 20 years. It looks exactly the same. Every time I’m here for lunch there’s a Chicago police officer eating. The quality of the food is above average. I have tried the italian beef, fries, chicken sandwich, & hot dog. The style of the hot dog is not like the most well known spots in Chicagoland. Their hot dogs have large diced onions, no relish, tomato, a different tasting pickle, & comes with fries. Overall the service is fast, the menu has many items, the quality is good, the building needs remodeling, and I hope the management takes note of the bad reviews on Unilocal. In the fast food business its hard to keep loyal customers. You can buy a hot dog on every other block in the city.

Good local spot for fast food! I usually get the gyro sandwich there with the cucumber sauce(they also have a garlic sauce). The prices are reasonable compared to other fast food places in the area however I think the gyros here are better. This place is also convenient because they also have a drive thru window which is also very fast. They have never messed up any of my orders and the staff are courteous.

How they make Grilled cheese on pita is atrocious. Took a pita bread and two pieces of cheddar cheese and put it in the microwave… no effort at all.

I used to work at Dog Stop about 15 years when I was in HS. Before I worked there I ate there and when I left I continued to eat there but not as much obviously. A few years after I left I heard about the sanitation issues. I was completely shocked because when I worked there keeping things clean was a top priority. Machines were taken apart nightly and scrubbed down. floors were mopped and bleached twice a day. Any food that seemed ready to go was tossed out. In the two years I worked there I can honestly say I didn’t see a rodent, any droppings, or even a bug for that matter. It’s not to say things may have changed after I had left but my experience there was a very sanitary one. Last time I was there was about a year ago and it’s definitely changed. I remember Dog Stop being packed almost all the time. Lunch, dinner, and even the late night crowd, especially during summer, had the staff moving non-stop. Drive through would be busy for two to three straight hours with cars coming non stop. It wasn’t an accident that it would get that busy. The food was good and the people knew it. Is it as good as it once was? I personally don’t think so, but for people to trash it and call it some roach infested joint seems a little off.

The only reason im giving it a two star instead of one is because the manager actually seemed like she cared to listen to what i had to say about the gyros i purchased. I purchased the grilled chicken sandwich meal. asked for a bottle of water instead of the pop and he still charged me for it even though i never took the soft drink… i love their chicken sandwich even though it was a little sloppy but delicious garlic sauce. The gyros had a rotten smell to it. i noticed how he cut it and threw it on a flattop grill. i think there was something else on that grill that wasnt scrapped good. gave my gyros the nastiest smell ever! the manager saw that i havent touched my sandwich and i explained to her. she was nice enough to give me a $ 5 certificate for my next visit. ill probably use it towards the chicken sandwich though…

Got a gyro sandwich and fries. It’s what you would expect as I think for the most part the fast food joints get their gyro meat from the same place. The fries were exceptional! Staff was friendly enough.

I love the hot dogs here! They use American cheese on their cheese dogs and I like that soo much more than cheese sauce. This is the only place I will order cheese dogs. The French fries are great here as well. The only complaint I have is that the drive thru is a bit slow at times. I love this place though so that doesn’t bother me.

I did not think it was possible to make a bad hot dog — apparently it is! I stopped in here one day on the way home craving a hot dog. It was VERY small for the price, the bun was soggy, the fries were soggy and the hot dog was tasteless. It was the worst hot dog I have ever had. It is only about 5 blocks form my house. I will not go back.

We decided to drop in here today because it was getting time to eat. We weren’t around any place that we really wanted to eat at, so I said, «Let’s go try this place, so we won’t have to come here again.» I was thinking that the food was going to be garbage and that we would never go back. Well, don’t judge a book by its cover. We loved the chili and soup. In addition, we had a great gyros sandwich. The meat was crispy on the edges, which we like. All in all it was a great experience, and will be back there soon.

Yum… went through the drive thru and the soup of the day was cream of mushroom and I give it an A++. I got a large and it came in a big container for a decent price. thick soup with huge chunks of mushroom. I also ordered fries and they were crunchy and fresh. And this was at 11pm! The workers were very nice. The drive thru line took kind of a while but the wait was worth it for hot fresh food late at night!

The food here is good but it is not amazing. Every time we have eaten here we have gotten everything we have expected and nothing more. We usually hit this place up for a Gyro… the Gryro’s are good. And when I say good they are what we have come to expect from a Chicago fast food place… Pita…pressed meat… onions…tomatoes and sauce! At this moment, life can not get any better then this!!! But it does not stop my world… I do not go out of my way to come here. I am not impressed with the fries… I wish they were better… this place does treat the fries like a throw away. There is plenty of seating inside and a few tables outside… plus there is a big parking lot. You will not have to pay a parking meter. The food is not bad or overpriced but it is not out of this world. It is everything you would expect from a place called the Dog Stop. So do not drive here out of your way! If you find yourself in the area and you are looking for typical fast food, then this is the place for you!!!
