I loved The Edge!!! Why did they close??? The staff was amazing and the food GREAT and affordable. The Edge will be missed. My husband is heartbroken.

Went here on Christmas since I was stuck in town over the holidays and figured that going to a diner would be better than staying home and eating ramen. The food was pretty good! I got a breakfast platter with more than enough food including some of the fluffiest pancakes I’ve had in a while. While it wasn’t exactly the best breakfast food on the planet, it was good comfort food. My biggest issue, and the reason why this is a three-star and not a four-star review is because of the service. Other than bringing me my coffee, my food, and my check, the waitress didn’t stop by my table at all and completely ignored me when I asked for a coffee refill. As if that wasn’t bad enough, she didn’t even acknowledge me when she came by to drop off my check and just dropped it on my table as she passed by. The one bright side is that the rest of the wait staff seemed very friendly, especially compared to the not-so-delightful waitress I was saddled with.

Great service but some of worst diner food ever. Oh golden nugget how I miss you. Your predecessor the Edge is such a poor substitute. I ordered the chicken fried steak which is a diner staple. The gravy had the texture of paste. I ordered the carrot cake. Tasted just like it came out of a box. I’ve had better cake at jewel. I had high hopes for this place even though it’s overpriced and sells its meatloaf and ribs«at market prices» I kid you not. Avoid

I called to ask questions about their chicken and a lady named Jen was talking to me SO terribly rude(as IF I was her bad kid or her little boyfriend). I asked for a manager… She said call back tomorrow. When I asked her name… She said I DON’T HAVETOTELLYOUMYNAME!!! Then, I said that she was speaking to me so rude and I needed her name. She got sassy and said her name. She hung up without saying goodbye. SUPER ghetto. So unprofessional…

If I could give a half of star I would. The serves here sucks. I tried to give this place a try more than once and each time they have showed their tales. They charge a 15% gratuity for a party of 5 or more and I understand that BUT we had 4 people and an infant and they charged us $ 15 extra for having her sit at the table. I asked the manager why are we getting charged for 5 people and she stated because she was seated with you guys and ate. Really an infant though… Of course I paid my $ 127 bill but this will be the last time I give this place any of my money. It’s all principle you don’t charge extra for an infant. And even when you try to talk to the manager instead of her being professional about what your saying she gets loud with you. Like I said this place will not see another dime of our money.

I like this place, but there’s never been a real reason to go here other than a night of heavy drinking. Pretty standard(and large!) food menu as well as a variety of good drinks. A bit pricey for my taste, but that’s the whole neighborhood up here. Good job overall guys!

Ugh. I’m going to have to drop a couple of stars here. I went for the first tune in several months. The menu has changed. Some favorite steak items are no longer available. The spaghetti and meatballs I had came out with … gray colored meatballs. How unappetizing! Staff has changed some, too. A couple of ditzy air-headed servers who couldn’t get it together tonight. Prices!!! OMG the prices went up on just about everything. $ 2.89 for a glass of watery Pepsi? Desserts … my cake slice was minuscule and was hard and dry and tasted like ass. While I was there two customers walked in with dogs. Not service animals … just pet dogs. Ew!!! Since when did this become acceptable? Striking The Edge off my list, no plans to return anytime in this lifetime.

Their menu specifies that you only get coffee refills if you order a meal. I didn’t really want a meal, but I did for the coffee refills because my go-to 24⁄7 Starbucks was in the second city building that caught on fire and needed a late night joint to get some writing done. The only«refill» I got was a single 1⁄3 cup top-off. And I never saw the waitress again(for an hour and a half) despite being only 1 of very few customers in the joint. No check, no water refills, no inquiry as to whether I wanted to order anything else, and most importantly – once again– no coffee refill! When I went up front and asked them why the lack of service, they did not apologize. Instead they defended their stingy, misleading free coffee refill policy by saying«we ‘usually’ don’t give refills if you stay for hours». Lol. It’s as if they don’t want customers to stick around long enough to order more food. It’d be one thing if their coffee was better than average, but it was as mediocre as coffee gets and overpriced like everything else on their menu. Think Denny’s but double the cost. Starbucks’ coffee costs less, tastes much better, and you get unlimited refills. The Edge charges $ 13.00 for a salad and $ 3.00 for ‘unlimited’ refills on a coffee but fail to mention that actually eating the salad voids out the refills. Everyone knows the only draw is that they are open 24⁄7 and close by. That was enough for me to eat there every now and then, but they’ve lost my business going forward.

If you take away the High prices, bad french fries and the fact that they don’t have Coke zero, you would have a good restaurant. Too many rules on their daily specials, Fries arent good. waffle fries are better. Waitstaff goes from friendly/sassy, to slow/forgetful. I prefer Friendly/Sassy myself. Great place to people watch on Clark Street, Great tacos and Burgers. They have some issues though but overall a Meh experience. The view and location make it easier to forget the high prices/low value for the money.

It’s a huge processed breakfast joint. Not that great but doable if your short on time. It’s just too huge and freezing inside. It makes your food cold. Dessert can get a little thick on top from the fridge you do the best and order on the day they come in. It’s ok but not a go to place.

This was a quick stop on our way back from Lincoln Park Zoo. We walked pretty far looking for a cheap little diner to get yummy food. My boyfriend’s brother is a bit of a picky eater so we needed to find a place that served pretty generic food items while making them pretty tasty. I came across this place on Unilocal and it had a pretty good check-in deal so we decided to check it out. Considering some of the reviews I was pleasantly surprised by both the service and the food. This restaurant definitely gave off a diner feel more so than a bar feel. The counter in the front had baked goods displayed such as pie and cheesecake. The staff was very friendly and nice. While the service was a little slow considering the restaurant wasn’t very packed, nobody was snippy or made me feel my presence in their restaurant was an inconvenience. The food was very good though. I got the chicken blt. It was so yummy. Each of us got different fries. They offer a choice of curly, regular, or waffle fries. I got the waffle fries. They didn’t really have much flavor and could definitely use more salt, but I like how they offer you a choice. Overall, this is a pretty cool place to go late at night or if you are looking for a quick bite in the area.

This is my first time here. I ordered one of their breakfast items. Two eggs(scrambled) with ham in the bone and 4 slices of French Toast. Everything was pretty good. I really liked the ham in the bone; it was a good size cut. The French Toast was also pretty good; no eggy overlay or taste and not over sweetened either. My waitress was nice. I didn’t feel rushed. The O.J. is a little pricey, but I believe it was fresh squeezed. I can’t really complain. I hope to come here and try their bar one day.

The food was really good we had the bacon cheeseburger, chicken Parmiaga and also the buffalo wings. The burger was really good and juicy and the chicken Parmiaga was really good. The buffalo wings were small but tasty. Now the bad the service was slow and we had to ask for several things more than once. They seemed short staffed but the place want busy.

This place is open far too late, attracting derelicts and nomadic robbers like a spice caravan. The name is apropos: you come here late at night and there is a clear line as to where you were the day before and where you’ll be tomorrow. The edge is clear. Though you can look over it, you can’t see beyond it. You come here at 2 am wanting steak and eggs, or a bunless burger covered in cheddar cheese and bacon. Instead, you order three white russians and side of regret. The side of regret comes out twofold, comes out in heaps. You ask for a bigger fork to dig out, something two-handed. They come back with another white russian. You try to speak, try to say no but nothing comes out: your mouth is full of white russian and your heart wants nothing but grubsteak. You didn’t even know what grubsteak was until you came here and it set your soul free. You can’t think of anything else. You come back here with all the other zombies, never knowing where you were before or where you’ll be next. The white russian will guide you, oh yes. It will hold your hand and take you home, easing your pain with each sip, regardless of whether you ordered another one or not. Please find me.

I won’t go back, even drunk. I went at 7:30 pm – normal time. Everything was undercooked. The fries were as white as when they were cut. The burger, which I asked for medium, was red and cold. I should have known something would be wrong when they brought out my order 3 minutes(seriously, 3 minutes) after I ordered. Normally, I would ask for the cooks to redo it, but the entire meal was disgusting. I just wanted to get out. No comp. No discount. No problem – I won’t go back.

What could have been an opportunity to impress me with excellent customer service quickly unraveled into the worst experience I have ever had in a restaurant. I ordered a ribeye steak and was served a $ 25.00 something that looked like it washed up on North Avenue Beach. Slightly more than a third of the meat was pure fat and what meat was on the«steak»(it actually looked more like pork, with a sickly pale tan color) was so under cooked It turned my stomach. I sent it back and asked for a menu again. The manager then showed up at my table and tried to lecture me about what a steak looked like. When I asked her to take it off the bill she refused and offered no apologies. She was rude, insulting, and COMPLETELYUNPROFESSIONAL. I am a patient person, but draw the line at the above treatment. Don’t go here. There are hundreds of diners in Chicago who want your business and prove it by treating their customers with respect.

Came at 10a on New Year’s Day and was so glad we came when we did because the line practically quadrupled in the next 15 minutes. Were told just 15 minutes to get a table and soon we were sat. Considering how busy they were we were surprised that once our order was placed we got our food in 15 minutes. I ordered the French toast combo which came with two eggs and potatoes, easily the best French toast I’ve had in forever. My husband ordered some sort of meatloaf with biscuits and gravy that also came with potatoes(although you could also have pancakes as a side). He ate every bite, so I imagine it must have been great. The French fries looked amazing as we saw them being delivered to surrounding tables so after placing our initial order asked for a side of those as well. They’re a cross between Wendy’s fries and steak fries, thick but not overly potato, just the way I love them! Definitely will be going back to try something from the lunch/dinner menu since so many of the sandwiches looked amazing!

I came here with family friends for brunch while in town visiting with a super hungry tummy. The restaurant itself is like a huge diner and the menu(very big) has a hispanic twist on it, with traditional«American» breakfast and dinner items as well. I ordered the over the border eggs benedict that had chorrizo on top of the poached eggs and it was honestly very salty and very, very greasy. I felt pretty gross after eating what I could of it. and wished I had ordered something else after tasting it. However, the servers and owner were nice. and the portions were quite large, too. Overall, based on what the others at my table ordered, the food was ok. I wouldn’t think to come back the next times I am in the city.

I was meeting my friends for dinner across the street at the Peasantry and found free parking in The Edge’s parking lot. There are signs stating that the lot is for The Edge customers only, so since I arrived early I decided to go inside for a drink and a snack. The Edge is a no frills, clean, comfortable, updated diner serving mostly breakfast items as well as burgers and sandwiches. There is a bar on one side of the restaurant, and a pastry case next to the cash register. There were cakes for days on display. I ordered an Irish coffee, which was just okay. I should have ordered the spiked hot chocolate, but the waitress was super confused when I asked for it. She was really nice, but she was oblivious to the specials written on the chalkboard outside. Since I was hungry, I also ordered some mozzarella sticks. Some things you should know: 1. I don’t like sharing mozzarella sticks 2. I can finish a whole serving by myself and never let one go untouched. Well, these mozzarella sticks were awful. They were served with a «marinara» sauce that tasted like meat-flavored pasta sauce from a jar. It is NOT the same. The batter was overly-fried, and the cheese inside was hard and not at all gooey. I suspect that they were cooked in old oil. I would have been more than happy to give the rest of these to someone else, and I didn’t finish them either. What I ordered was pretty awful so I don’t think I’d come back. It was worth it for the free parking though, at least I had a receipt in case I needed to prove anything.

The Edge is still a solid place to go. Their bar is decent as well. Not very crowded and was intrigued by their drink specials. Red Velvet(Spiked) Hot Chocolate? Yes please. It was blissful. Warm and boozy and it really hit the spot. And it only set me back $ 5! And it still doesn’t get much better than being able to have eggs and bacon at 3am.
