The food was amazing no doubt, but our server uidi is the best in town. If your willing, he’ll expand your palette with recommend plates/complimentary drinks. His sense of humor will turn your night into something that you will remember for awhile. We will be back, thanks for a great night.

I can’t get over this place. I’m obsessed. I couldn’t help but come here for brunch again, this time to try the Irish breakfast! We shared another scotch egg(still the best on the planet, I’m convinced). We both had the Irish breakfast which was delicious, but we probably could have shared it because it was HUGE. I passed on the blood sausage(eww), couldn’t do that when I was in Ireland and still can’t do it now. We also got a side of Gage potatoes, which were delicious. It was restaurant week but we passed on the special menu. But the dessert on the restaurant week menu was Bailey’s hot chocolate and cookies. We asked to get that a la carte. It was a little too sweet but very good. I love The Gage! The environment is great and the staff is so friendly. Can’t wait to go back again! (Going to dream about that Scotch Egg now)

I am a sucker for gastropubs, so when I found this restaurant during my travels, I had to go. I ordered three small dishes because I found them more interesting than the main courses. I started with the beet salad, which had honeycrisp apples, basil. It was delicious! I followed that with the Bison tartare and the charred green beans. Okay, let me start with the tartare. Holy crap, it was amazing! It was served with black garlic aoli, whipped goat cheese and basil. The kicker to this dish is the pieces of beef chicharron on top. I had the chocolate tart for dessert. Yum. The service was top notch and the drinks were good as well. This is worth the money and time.

At first glance the menu looked like fancy descriptions of bar food, but looking closer it was much more sophisticated, yet the ambiance wasn’t stuffy. The service was very good, although the tables needed a little more distance between them. My first time eating a Scotch Egg — delicious and unique. The Bison tartare was like butter! It came with crostini, but I didn’t even bother. A nice glass of Sangiovese was all I needed. I’d definitely like to go back and trying something else… Although I’d also be really tempted to order the tartare again …

Went here with a friend on Sunday for lunch(brunch) and it was a pretty good experience. There was no wait and the service was great. A guy brought us water, before our waitress came to take our drink order, almost before we could take off our coat to sit down. Friend and I both ordered our meals and both arrived quickly and were good and hot. Great quality and taste from us both. Also, prices a little high some say, but for the amount of food and quality, it is well worth it. Also worth noting that the inside atmosphere was great and definitely want to come back for dinner and drinks. Looks like it would be a lot of fun.

Came here on a Sunday with some friends for brunch. We got here around 2:00 and there was no wait which was great. They have a pretty versatile brunch/lunch menu with some classics as well as some more creative dishes, which is always a plus. I had a hard time choosing because everything sounded really good, but I decided to go with the Housemade Corned Beef Hash, which had two poached eggs and hollandaise on top. In general it was kind of a similar concept to a benedict especially with the hollandaise, but I really liked that since I was considering the pork belly benedict, and it’s kind of the best of both worlds. Overall it was really tasty, not too heavy on the corned beef or the hash. And I actually liked that they used potatoes instead of hash browns because I’m more of a breakfast potato kind of girl. I have to say the service was also really good. Can’t remember our waitresses’, name but she was really friendly without being too overbearing or pushy, which is always appreciated. I hear they have a great dinner here as well, but I would definitely recommend for a nice Sunday brunch!

I love the vibe and the service. The selection of food is good. The food: Bison Tartar — solid but not my favorite place in the loop for steak tartar. It’s mild in flavor and didn’t come with an egg. I think it needed more mustard flavor or capers or something. Burrata — fresh but not super memorable. Fried pickles– very nice. I would go back again for the vibe and the drinks since they are seasonal and the wine selection is solid.

Super cool, warm vibe inside. Total comfort-pub food with an extensive and varied beer list. It is on the pricey side, but it’s a fun place for a celebration! I had the agnolotti which was pretty good– the tastes were there, tart and savory, but it was all pretty much the same texture, so if I were to go back I’d get something else. Maybe the fish and chips, or the lobster roll…

Came in a few times. The first time here was better than the second. Lobster roll– pretty good. But not the best I’ve had. Venison Burger– too heavy and didn’t love the flavors. Regular burger– Above average. Salmon(Fish of the Day) — Below average. So pricey for just a small salmon fillet that did not come with much else. Fish and chips– super oily.

Amazing customer service. 5 star service. 5 star quality food. 5 star cocktails. I for one like to go for it and order a bottle of wine. We then always order the mussels, the sauce may change within season. When we were in last it seemed to be almost spicy and delicious. Extra gluten please so I can soak up the sauce. My fiancé always gets the bone in rib eye with mashed potatoes. I get the Ny strip a la Oscar. I have yet to find a better steak. Maybe I love that the hosts always know the occasion I’m in for, or maybe it’s the waiter, my favorite THEGREEK. Always remembers us and has great recommendations. Also the management that stops by the table and checks to make sure everything is ok. By far one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. Thank you always for the phenomenal service. See you soon friends.

Two times now after attempting to go to the Walnut Room, we eventually gave up due to the very long lines to eat, and b/c it’s first come first serve to eat there. The last Walnut attempt one month ago, was after a 3 hour wait! And was so long, I took a walk with my dad to Harold Washington Library(is there a very common short acronym for this place, btw? there must be one by now, and it’s 2016…), the last time we were stuck in that line a month ago. The Gage was our savior then, and it also was on an earlier trip here in late 2014. I’ve finally gotten to the point where I think it’s my fav place to eat on this part of Michigan Ave., since Bennigan’s(yep a chain, but don’t care. was always my former usual choice in this area, if not going to Miller’s or Exchequer) shut down across from Art Institute not many years ago. Their beer selection is decent, and has a very decent amount of craft/micro beer choices. Yeah the beer prices might not be the cheapest, but you’re on Michigan Ave. and it also isn’t a dive bar, so what did you expect? For what the Gage is, I think they’re actually reasonable, if a tiny smidge expensive by a buck occasionally. I tried a quick sip of a friend’s cocktail last visit, and it was what I expected it’d be. Not bad if a tad sweet, and tasted about how I’d expect a cocktail to be like. It was fine, and I’ve had much worse cocktails too. Myself, I’m more of a beer person! Food has been decent for the most part here. Extremely few misses, and most everything I’ve tried has been decent. Fish and chips are pretty good here when I sampled a bite, but not quite up to how much I loved the ones at the former Edgewater Lounge(RIP). But are better here than at Elephant and Castle, believe it or not! All the people I ate with my last time there enjoyed their food though, and I greatly enjoyed what I ordered on their weekend brunch menu(Baked Pumpkin French Toast). Someone else at my table I believe ordered a burger, and liked it. Bet you didn’t know(unless you’ve eaten here before, it’s mentioned on their menu and website, and company ads are on the stairs going down to their bathroom and private party room), that the name came from Gage Brothers & Co., which in the early 20th Century was located in this very building and space. They were a company that at least supplied(dunno if they made any women’s hats themselves, but I wonder if they did?) women’s dress hats, throughout the country. Anyway, you won’t be disappointed if you go here, it’s casual, and a comfortable place to eat for anyone. My personal preference is to eat here over Miller’s Pub, too.

Sorry Gage, if it wasn’t for my wife intervening with vigour it would be 2 stars. Friendly enough staff, but the food wasn’t anything special and in fact distinctly average and somewhat greasy. An awful table by the door on New Year’s Eve sealed the deal, if I was writing this unhindered it would be 2 stars because I didn’t enjoy it, my wife however has eaten here on several trips to Chicago and assures me it was an ‘off’ night, sadly I’ll not know what an ‘on’ night looks like as I won’t be back.

The family went here for a late dinner dinner after a show. Everyone was able to find something to their liking, which is difficult with two pescatarians and one strict carnivore. First off their cocktail selection is really great. I found a seasonal special call the«Field and Stream», Langley Gin, Amaro, Cranberry, Lime, Sage. It was just outstanding! Super unique and everyone at the table liked the flavors. They had a very nice beer selection that our group took full advantage of. My husband I split a roasted red beet salad that was delicious. I had the fish and chips as my main. They were great and reminded me of the kind we get when we are in London. They were beer battered(not breaded and fried) and came out light and flavorful. Couldn’t finish mine so took it home and it made a lovely lunch for my husband. The carnivore had one of the night’s specials, a 14 oz rib eye. He really enjoyed it and snarfed the entire steak. It was served with two sauces, a Bearnaise sauce and a Poncho sauce. According the son, you can skip the Bearnaise sauce and get double on the Poncho sauce. He like it so much I think he would bath in it if he could. Other dishes at the table were the Angolotti and the venison burger. Both dishes were hits. Honestly, there isn’t anything that I would say was not good about our meal. The only downside might be that it is a little pricey. Great place though and we will definitely consider returning.

I’ll start by saying the food and service were lovely. I got the Scotch Egg to start, followed by the Corn Beef Hash. Both really heavy, really fried, and really delicious. Very hearty midwesterny-type food. This place gets 2 stars because the server assured my Celiac boyfriend that his dish was gluten-free. Guess what? It wasn’t. He got sick immediately. Gage, please be careful. If you can’t guarantee a dish is GF because your kitchen isn’t set up that way, that’s okay, just say so. We’d have gone somewhere else, no harm done. But don’t assure us three times that food is safe when it’s not. Someone back in the kitchen obviously didn’t take it quite seriously enough or wasn’t educated on cross-contamination. Please do something about that before you make someone else seriously ill.

I don’t want the places I visited in Chicago to fade from my memory… however, I went to a ton of places in the four days I was out there. People from Chicago told me I’ve been to hoods they haven’t been to. So, I ran into a friend I hadn’t seen in almost 9 years at the biggest museum ever. We were both 700+ miles away from home and just happen to be in the same wing of the museum. He invited me to join him and his friend for drinks at The Gage. I didn’t have any food, but I liked the service and the décor. Not the kind of place I would go to since I’m more into«brooklynish» type of spots with 1 $ sign, but it was aight! Service was sociable and attentive. They let me make up a table for my party since I got there early. So I moved tables and chairs around at like a 5 star spot. Very nice place.

I was recently in downtown Chicago on business and was looking for a place to have a nice lunch. I searched on Unilocal and found Gage was rated 4 stars so I decided to eat here for lunch and I am glad I did. Gage provides inventive American eats plus a very long list of craft beers in a lively space with Millennium Park views. I love my draft beers. I started with my usual margarita on the rocks followed by their local Goose Island Honkers Ale draft. As you can see from my pics I enjoyed their traditional creole gumbo for $ 18. The gumbo had Tasso ham, gulf shrimp, andouille, okra, served with a warm baguette. By the way I love gumbo, jambalaya and okra. Service here was also 4 stars. I will definitely return here. After I left here for lunch I stumbled on the place next door, which I decided to reserve with the hostess for dinner, which will be my next review when I get some free time hopefully this weekend. I had a very interesting experience when I checked in for dinner tonight. Check out my next review.

We split the BLT egg sandwich and jalapeño grits, which was more than enough for a filling lunch! Both were tasty, especially the grits! As for drinks, I had the G.T.O(pic attached). It was delicious-I love my gin cocktails!

Brought a group of seven here for dinner the other night and everyone loved it. Service was outstanding, food was excellent, and the environment seems to have improved since my previous visit in March. + Arrived at 7:00pm and didn’t have a reservation. The wait for a table would’ve been nearly 2.5 hours, but the staff set-us up in the bar by combining a series of hightop tables and chairs. + Super friendly, super helpful, and incredibly fun server immediately greeted us and shared info about the specials + Drink orders arrived quickly + Drink refills were offered almost immediately — server was *on point* + Tap menu has expanded — nearly 20 taps available, and all were unique and interesting + Venison burger: the bun has shrunk but the rest of the burger remains *big* on flavor. + PBR pickle chips were lightly battered and delicious + Rest of the table raved about their food: pasta, fish special, cowboy steak, fish and chips… everyone loved their entrees + Follow-up service was spot-on and consistently excellent + Gone was the drafty A/C as well — yay!

Long story short, everything was fantastic except for the ill tempered server named George. We had reservations on a Saturday night for 9 pm but were seated a little later than that. The manager came out with glasses of prosecco on the house which was much appreciated. We ordered the scotch egg and poutine to share and I had the bison burger with a side of green beans. Scotch Egg: 3.5÷5 I didn’t know what to expect but it tasted like a egg wrapped in breakfast sausage deep fried. The mustard that came with it had a nice kick but the egg itself, I could probably pass on. Poutine: 5⁄5 holy mother of jesus where have you been all of my life. The perfect french fries were topped with shredded pork shoulder, melted cheese and this delicious gravy. This dish probably shortened my life expectancy a couple of years but totally worth it. However, the pork shoulder somehow migrated to the bottom of the dish before we discovered the treasure trove of protein. Bison Burger: 3.5÷5 It was juicy and a perfect medium rare but not all that flavorful. Maybe my palette has been off lately. It was good but not fantastic. Perhaps it was overhyped and I was expecting more. Green beans: 3.75÷5 They were delicious and topped with bacon but it was too salty. The green beans were delicious and flavorful and the bacon added another delightful touch but the salt content was too much. If less salt was added, 5⁄5 for sure. Service: 0⁄5 where do I even begin, George was rude and brusque and couldn’t be bothered to help us. So sorry we’re an inconvenience but hey I did see you break that bottle and glass of red wine all over that man’s dinner jacket. I was sad when he took away our last scoop of poutine without asking because our entrees were ready. He was never there when we needed him and hovered when we were trying to figure out the bill. Thanks for nothing George! The guy clearing the table and refilling the water cups however, he was awesome. George just sucked. I definitely look forward to coming back, I know my dinner companion has come back 2 times in the week after we went there. I just don’t want to be seated in George’s section. Ever. I’d rather starve.

Packed house for lunch on a typical weekday in Chicago. Patio is first come first serve and even that was almost completely filled when we stumbled in as tourists. Let’s cut to the chase since it’s only 3 stars for me. The food is alright. I had a sandwich and soup lunch combo for $ 12 which included the smoked salmon sandwich which was pretty delicious. 4 out of 5 tables around me got this exactly full sandwich without the soup. The house fried chips that comes with it were awesome. However, the fennel scallop soup was only a creamy let down. My girlfriend had the fish and chips lunch platter and it was literally 3 huge chunks of fresh fish in light batter. You definitely get lots of fish but ours lacked flavor. Quite bland actually and sauce was lackluster. They do have an impressive bar with half liter mugs of Oktoberfest beer specials and the ambiance is bustling with the business crowd. Again, it’s an OK place for lunch.
