I just met Allan today for my home inspection at the multi unit property I have a contract on in Chicago. He was very blunt and very honest and it was definitely a learning lesson for me. We were there for just under 4 hours and the building is not huge. He started with a preliminary look to get started on every floor and then we went back over everything so he could be very specific in detail. I appreciated his opinion and feedback on how I could address and fix certain situations of the building. I never felt hurried or that I was asking too many questions. After we were done, he took the time to go over all the items we had talked about in detail to make sure I had all the info accurate and correct. I appreciated his ideas on some things I could do myself to save money. I would definitely recommend Allan to anyone who is looking for a home inspector. Even both realtors who were with me(seller and buyer) requested business cards and let me know that he was pretty good.

Simply put, I would not recommend this home inspector. I do not feel he did a thorough job and I do not feel his work was worth the money I paid. He did not check all the electrical outlets in the home, and did not check any of them until he was asked/reminded to do so. He did not bring a meter to detect water damage on the ceiling around the skylight. He did not NOTICE the water damage around the skylight until I brought it to his attention. He did not go on the roof of the home to inspect it for damage. He did not locate the sump pump or inspect it until it was brought to his attention. He did not bring a gas meter to check for leakage. Overall he spent more time offering decorating suggestions than discussing the features and operations of the home. The report provided following his inspection was inadequate and I feel I need to obtain a secondary inspection to receive a true report on the operations and deficiencies of the home I am about to purchase.
