The Original 5k is a 70’s themed race, aiming to give runners«a new „old“ running experience.» Although there were some modern allowances(chip timing, gear check, etc), the race was a perfect choice for a Throwback Thursday(the race took place on a Thursday evening this year, which was a nice change of pace from early morning weekend races) thanks to the people with stop watches yelling out split times and the results being posted on a large sheet of plywood after the race and the sweet 70’s tunes playing before and after the race. With a price of only $ 19.72(get it?), it is the most affordable race I’ve ever run. Instead of the usual race shirt, the race gave out trucker hats to all runners. It was a much smaller field of runners than I usually see at races, but that actually made the race that much better because runners had the room to spread out, and at no point did the course feel crowded. Everything from registration to packet pick up to the post race party was well organized(something I’ve come to expect from Fleet Feet races). In addition to food(watermelon, Pringles, mini Clif bars), beer(PBR), and awesome music, there was a raffle for those who stuck around after the race, with prizes being free entries to other Fleet Feet races. With the smaller crowds, more relaxed attitude, and great attention to detail, The Original 5k offered a fantastic and fun race experience. I look forward to running this 5k again next year.

5k runs are hit or miss. This one(2015) was a hit! It was a smaller crowd, lots of fun, and very well organized. I agree with the previous comment: no bottle neck at this run. I’m doing it again next year.

With only 1,081 runners(2014), you’re not going to have any bottle necks at this race. Super fun concept… Bring running back to before technology? What, who does that? Fleet Feet does! They have people at the mile markers holding signs, yelling spilt numbers, it’s absolutely hysterical. At the end of the race, they printed the results and posted them on a piece of plywood. Love it! The goodie bag is a really good pair of tube socks. I love them and wear them all of the time. You’ll also see some dudes sporting some super short shorts.(wolf whistle) They could have had a few more people manning the gear check… that’s literally my only gripe about the race. I’m kinda bummed they are doing the race on a Thursday instead of a Saturday this year. I seriously loved this race!
