The Sky-Line Club

Having passed this place many times, I am amazed to know what it once was and to have the opportunity to see it firsthand.
What a beauty! While I could not imagine having to walk 24 flights of stairs for a private club or any club before elevators were installed, I can see why membership has its privileges. This place is gorgeous and definitely had amazing views of the city before taller buildings were constructed and more of them clouded the area.
The dining room is absolutely beautiful as is the patio. I was also especially impressed with the use of space and décor. There were several built in shelves, seating and decorative wooden heater covers. Even back in the day no one wanted to stare at those big honking radiators. I also took delight in the cute liquor lockers in the bar area. Another ingenious storage idea before there were liquor licenses.
Definitely worth checking out.

The Sky-​Line Club is a unique hidden historic jewel nested in northeast Loop. This is a private penthouse club, so you must be with a member to enjoy the facility. They serve breakfast and lunch. The ambiance is historic and warm (there is even a fire place). The dining terrace has outstanding views across the city. The seasonal menu has a variety of influences. They also offer daily specials that keep the offerings fresh. The items I have had have been reliably wonderful. This is a great venue for business or social events. The place is an impressive Chicago icon and certainly worth a visit if you get the opportunity. It was completely renovated in 2013.

First, the negatives: the club is a little run down, difficult to find and dark.

The Skyline Club is on Unilocal?Don’t go to the Skyline Club because you aren’t allowed in. And as you are looking for restaurant reviews on Unilocal it’s safe to say that you wouldn’t like the club even if you could get in. No one goes to Skyline for the food, and if that doesn’t deter you then all the icy stares you’d receive upon entering the club would scar you for years. Besides that it’s just ugly business having to turn you out; it disrupts everyone’s lunch. Just stay away. In fact, stop reading any more «reviews» of the place. Delete any links to this page, and erase it from your memory.

Before anyone thinks about going, you need to understand this is a private members only club. I don’t think the previous reviewer was talking about the correct place, because this is NOT a nightclub at all.
This is a private club owned by the Old Republic Insurance Company and open to members and their guests for lunch. If you show up thinking this is a restaurant or bar, you will be turned away by the lobby security as this is a controlled access building.
Aside from that, the club is a beautiful place with an stunning outdoor terrace on top of the building where you can view all of downtown Chicago. Good food, great service, and a staff that will fulfill nearly any request you may have.
