I went there with no expectations and I was blown away by this place! It’s not in the most happening block of Belmont but definitely make your way over here to check it out. K and I went on a Sunday night and most of the tables were full with lots of different people — families with kids, couples of all ages, groups of friends, etc. but there was a table open for us to be seated right away. Our server, Erica, was great — very helpful with the menu and was attentive but also let us just relax and enjoy ourselves. The space is decorated just like a neighborhood tapas bar that you would find in Spain and felt friendly, bright and had good space between the tables so you don’t feel smushed. On to the food! We ordered the tortilla espanola(best in Chicago), pimiento stuffed with tuna(oh so decadent!), the fried swordfish(doesn’t look like much when its served to you but the taste was so interesting in the best kind of way), the white bean/potato/chorizo stew, carne al toro, the special jamon iberico de bellota(you gotta savor each piece) and the anchovy tostada(I could eat this all day everyday with a nice glass of wine!) And we finished off our meal with the rice pudding dessert topped with cinnamon and a marmalade-like syrup, which was the perfect amount of sweetness. We will be back!

Delicious addition to the area. Honestly, I enjoyed everything we tried from the stuffed peppers to the yummy lentils. I can’t speak from experience, but if felt very authentic. Would maybe like to see a few more tapas options added to the menu. Since they are tapas, with three people we tried a lot of the menu, so after our next visit or two, will probably exhaust all the options, so mostly just looking to be able to enjoy even more good things! The wine options were also perfect — we had glasses of two different types. Both were nice and all at reasonable price points.

Lovely tapas joint! While our order was simple, I had the charcuterie platter — amazing. My wife had a sampling of vegetarian plates, all delicious. Our server Sam was attentive and knowledgeable, for being such a new place. The chocolate dessert is decadent as was our wine. Spanish square is a great addition to the neighborhood and I wish them years of success!

Still working out the kinks, but a great time was had by the wife and I during a recent impromptu stop. I’ve yet to visit Espana, and take in an authentic Spanish café, but I’d have to imagine this is as close as it gets. Music, décor, cuisine, and adult beverages, they’ve got it all. No problems scoring some bar-side seats on a Saturday night. Our bartender Jen was extremely welcoming and helped explain the menu. We tried some great tapas, including the Jamon Iberico, Salchichon, Manchego Cheese, and the Jamon y Tomato Tostada. Relatively small tapas for the price, but the quality was top notch, and eased the digestion of our somewhat exorbitant bill. Spanish beer, a housemade Sangria(Tinto de Verano), and some Pedro Ximenez added up to the perfect kick starter for a night of fender benders, mosh-pit slam dancing, and carpool karaōke. Cheers to Jen, Mara, and everybody at The Spanish Square for having us.

This place was so fresh and delicious! Definitely will come back, and soon! We hadn’t been here before, and the waiter gave the best recommendations about what to ordee. Really, though, you can’t go wrong!

The Spanish Square is a new place that opened about a month ago. We walked in on a Saturday night & although there were plenty of tables, we chose the bar because we were only there for a couple of bites & a drink(or four). They have a specialty cocktail… Tinto De Verano — it’s red wine and orange soda — tastes like a sangria & it’s definitely tasty but I could only have one. It was a little too sweet for my tastebuds. So I moved onto some Spanish white wine, Basa which was phenomenal. For our«bites» we had Jamom Iberico de Bellota, Salchicon, manchego & Jamon y tomate. No complaints here. I think the Salchicon was my favorite of the night though. The owners were present & talking with the diners. The atmosphere was laid back & had an upscale feel without the attitude(if you know what I mean) & service was great! Stop by & give them a shot. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

We enjoyed many tapas here: tostada de setas, tostada anchoas, croquetas de puchero, montadito de jamón ibérico, ensaladilla, atún encebollado, gambas al ajillo, gilda and pimiento de piquillo. My favorite was the pimiento de piquillo; it is a roaster pepper stuffed with tuna and other deliciousness. Also they have a good amount of options for vegetarians. We had spanish beer but in the menu they show a big selection of wines as well. There was live music(spanish guitar) at the time we dined there. This is a nice family owned spanish tapas bar worth to try and come back for more. We will be back to try some more tapas and enjoy their events.

My husband and I waited and waited for The Spanish Square to open. We couldn’t have been more exited when it finally did open. Not only does the restaurant’s authenticity remind us of our first trip to Spain, but everything there is amazing. The owners, Manuel, and his wife, Mara are incredibly nice people. Opening The Spanish Square is a dream for them — a dream that came true. Mara is incredibly knowledgeable about both Spain and all of the selections at The Spanish Square. The manager is also very welcoming and cheerful. The wait staff know the menu and wine selections well and are able to make recommendations. I have enjoyed many of the Spanish wines on my visits — I particularly am in love with the sparkling rose and several of the white wines. I’ve even tried a cider and my beer-loving husband enjoys the beers! While I haven’t tried every single menu item just yet, every single item I try is delightful. The Jamon Iberico cannot be beat — it is a MUST have and cannot be found at other restaurants in the Chicago area. Jamon Iberico certainly takes my mind back to Spain — cafes in Madrid and Seville! Other fantastic items include some of the stews with white beans, stuffed peppers, sandwiches, and olives. Make sure to check out their calendar of events on The Spanish Square’s website — wine tasting, Spanish guitar, and children’s events are just a few of the exciting offerings!

Had lunch yesterday at the Spanish Square. It was wonderful. Authentic Spanish Tapas. The restaurant is immaculate. The waiter was prompt, friendly and extremely knowledgeable about all the different tapas on the menu. The lentil soup with an egg is fantastic. Leave room for dessert… the chocolate lava cake with orange sauce was to die for.

Finally a place where u can eat just like in a spanish tapas bar! I’m from Spain so shut up and come to The Spanish Square. This is my very first time here and I ordered jamón ibérico, caña de lomo(5*) and queso manchego. Everything awesome. Don’t miss the Carne al Toro or the Serranito! Ensaladilla is a must. I can see myself coming back every week. The place is beautiful and they have their own shop where u can buy spanish food. Lovely waiter and easy to park. Please please please try Estrella Galicia, spanish«blonde» beer.

Excited to have a new restaurant in the neighborhood especially one that is family owned. My husband and I went on a weekend early so it wasn’t too crowded and found the staff very friendly and helpful. Mara the owner was even going around from table to table asking for feedback and helping with menu selections. They have done a great job remodeling the space paying attention to detail with the restaurant décor and the market area set up. Since it was tapas style we expected to order a number of small plates to share and had a good sampling. We had: Ensaladilla(Tuna/Potato Salad) — it was lighter than expected and very good… not as heavy a texture or as much garlic as the popular Lettuce Entertain You restaurant. Chorizo y Manchego — Agree with some of the other reviews the sandwiches are very small but perfect for tapas style and very tasty Seta — Tostadas was our favorite and a must if you like mushroom Croquetas — This was our least favorite but worth a try if you like fried food Habichuelas — Perfect especially for cold nights we have right now Tarta de Chocolate — Perfect flavor and density… I’m not a dessert person but really enjoyed it. We will definitely go back and it’s worth trying if you like tapas style dining. I just hope they expand the menu and maybe add a Paella or two.

My husband and I stopped in last Friday. I am really excited to have a new addition to the neighborhood and will probably upgrade my review once they work out some of the kinks. The drinks were good and the food was hit or miss. I think the flavor is there, but the execution was off on some items. I think the kitchen is still working out the timing and the consistency will improve once they get in a groove. The tapas was not timed correctly and it seemed as though the kitchen would make all their orders of a dish and send them out at once, even if it meant one table waited a little longer to get something they ordered first. Once again, I’m sure this will work itself out. Adobo — swordfish was a tad dry and overcooked Carne al Toro — this was my favorite dish, tender and the sauce was delicious Habichuelas — my husband really enjoyed this dish, the beans were cooked perfectly Croquetas de Puchero — really small, I would pass on this next time Serranito — Small sandwich that was tasty Seta — Loved this dish and as others have stated the jamon was tasty Torrijas — When I read the description I thought it would be like french toast, the bread was really soggy(someone just told me they were supposed to be soggy, when you google are torrijas supposed to be soggy there is an overwhelming response of no it should be firm enough to hold, these were not) As for the space, it is warm and inviting. The wine shop has wines to fit every budget. We picked up a couple of bottles as we left for the evening. Our server was awesome and I wish I remembered her name. She was thorough and attentive. Overall, I’m glad we have another option in the area.

What a treat!!! Great red wines to warm your soul on cold day. Started with the gildas then on to the croquetas The mix of fillings with the seasoning were yummy. Had a Jamon tostadas. The flavor was so good I got some Jamon, cheese and wine to take home. The service was friendly and they knew their products I had limited knowledge of the foods of Spain. Looking forward to working my way through the whole menu and wine list

We stopped in for dinner last night after much anticipation of this neighborhood spot opening. Sad to say we were disappointed with the food… we wanted this to be a new regular spot for us like Crosby’s or Fahlstroms down the street. We will give this place another shot after it has had some time to work out the kinks. Let’s start with something positive… our server was attentive, friendly and they’ve done a good job updating the interior. The negative was the food, the seasoning was off from being too little salt in some dishes and too much in others and too much oil across the board. The other thing that was disappointing to us was that we felt no presence of a manager or owner welcoming us to the restaurant and it wasn’t that busy. A quick«hi, hello, how is everything» from the owner of a new neighborhood spot is always a nice touch. To end on a positive, our waiter recommended the«tortilla» and it was a nice surprise. It was seasoned well, good flavor and unlike any other tapas we had ever tried. We will be back in a couple months to give this place another«go» and hope for a different food experience next time around.

Excellent tapas, hand-cut Jamon Iberico de Bellota and a bodega full of Rioja and Priorat. PLUS a retail area with some cool ceramics, spices and preserves. LOVE it.

Stopped in for the preview. If they want to be a neighborhood go to spot, they should learn about the importance of customer service. Overall the staff is just nasty.

Love The Spanish Square! The space is absolutely gorgeous! The staff friendly and happy to help. I love red wine and bubbles and the bodega is beautiful with an excellent selection of wines at incredible prices! Spoiler alert — all my friends are going to be getting cool gifts straight from Spain via The Spanish Square’s market! I’m dreaming of manchego and jamon! Can’t wait to pop back for more fun and great food! Who is joining me?

Amazing Spanish tapas. Just what the neighborhood needed. The food took me back to my trip to Spain. Very very authentic. The jamon is hands down the best, cut straight off the bone. It was pretty cool seeing the owner cutting my jamon. I’d definitely come back with a group so I can try every dish/not feel bad for ordering 10 orders of jamon.

Stopped in to check out the place on the first day they opened and wasn’t too impressed. The space is really nice, but we tried five of the tapas and all of them were pretty bland and flavorless. Most of the items we tried were also recommendations from the waiter, so I assumed they would be some of their«best» choices. The portions are also very small, so if you had more then 2 people in your party, you would need to put two orders in for the same item. The service was good and staff was friendly, so they have that going for them.

Stopped in today for their open house prior to the grand opening tomorrow. Really excited for this new addition to the neighborhood. Spanish Square is an authentic tapas bar along with a small market area with an assortment of Spanish foods and a bodega with Spanish wines to buy and take home. They have tables for a full sit down restaurant experience as well as plenty of bar seating where you can stop in for a glass of wine and a few tapas snacks. The location is really beautifully renovated, nice homey atmosphere. The staff was also all super nice and very enthusiastic. The open house was great, they had wine tastings and passed tapas as well as samples of their Spanish meats and cheeses. It was great to be able to try a few of their wines as there were many Spanish varietals I hadn’t tried before. Many of the wines were very reasonably priced as well, I took home a very nice Granacha that was only around $ 13 I believe. Definitely will be back next time I want to try a new wine. The passed tapas were also really delicious. My favorite was probably the tortilla, which is actually like a potato and onion frittata, super flavorful for being so simple. Excited to go back after they open and try more of the food!
