I can’t believe I’ve been a Chicagoan my whole life and never been here. If you’re looking for a northside bar that won’t disappoint, skip Moretti’s, skip the Garage down the street and come here. Stuccoed, stone and wood paneled walls, a beautiful rectangular bar in the center, cozy lighting and kind staff all contribute towards a warm, inviting atmosphere. On a Friday night, there was a good mix of regulars and outsiders like us who had just stumbled in. All were made to feel welcome. Drinks are affordable and they even had a selection of European candies — 3 for $ 5 — along the back wall. Also has a jukebox and darts. This will be my go-to place when I need to meet friends in the area.

KISSME, I’M NOTIRISH… So a friend and I were looking for a place to go before a Blackhawks game. Since he lived on the north side he suggested that there is place near his house that he always goes to. I figured why not. We parked in the bank parking lot across the street from this place. My friend said he needed to go to the cash station so I headed for the bar on my own. The moment I walked in, I noticed that everyone at the bar turned to take a look at who was entering their place. I grabbed a seat across from the regulars. I told the bartender that I was expecting a friend to show up as well and that she may even know him. She asked who it was and I told her, Jokingly she gave me a hard time. The moment that my friend came through the door it felt like an episode of Cheers. Instead of Norm, everyone called out his name«George». They all asked him a question which George came back with a witty answer. It was perfect, I felt at home. He then introduced me to the bartender and gave me a brief history of the bar and how it got it’s name. There are three partners that own the place and that they come from three counties in Ireland. Sounds like a good name to me. I have to say that I enjoyed my couple of beers here. I started off with a Harp and then went with a Guinness which was a terrific pour. I don’t live near here but next time I’m in the neighborhood I will definitely stop in for a cold one or two or three.

A perfect Irish pub. You walk in and feel the warmth of wood and the crackle of conversation. You may have had good Guinness at a few places, but you have never had it like you do here. The bartenders pour it slowly, with patience, until it has reached its perfect level. And it is worth every second and every penny(though the amount of pennies you pay is very reasonable). Like music? Come here at nights or on the weekends. You’ll see traditional music and rock, a wonderful blend of old and new. Learn words to some Irish rebel songs, though, so that you can join the crowd in singing along. Oh yeah– that’s the kicker: prepare to lose yourself among the accents, the brogues, thick as Guinness. You’ll hear dirty jokes and great stories, and hear the regulars bandy back and forth. As the name implies, the owners are from three different counties in Ireland. If you aren’t familiar, counties in Ireland are the standards for identities and for rivalries. So while watching soccer or hurling or Gaelic football, all of which draw a lively and enjoyable crowd, the place will be torn depending on whose county is playing whom– or who just feels like irritating the boys from Mayo. This isn’t a bar where you’ll have to shout over the Top 40s while pounding Coors Light(though they do have a full arrangement of domestic and imported, and indeed the Irish there drink mostly domestic). It is a place for conversation, for laughs, for friendly service where they treat you as family. It is impossible for me to say enough good things about the Counties. Go there, and raise one to the Auld Sod.

This was a pretty small Irish bar in a neighborhood with some competition. It has a small stage and great irish beer imports. There was heavy Irish accents and that is what you want going to an Irish bar. A pretty authentic Irish bar. Now if it were only located in an actual Irish neighborhood

A great Irish bar, mostly full of of-the-boat Irish stopping in after work or out on a weekend night. Weekends usually has some pretty good music on their stage, and the people behind the bar are some of the nicest in the city. Not too huge, and a little dark, but this place certainly does have a bit of charm.

Great Irish pub. Now that the smoking ban is in place, even better. If there are 20 people at the bar, 18 of them have Irish accents. Eileen is a great bartender and always takes care of us. Gets pretty crowded on the weekends.
