Stopped in on my way to work and was pleasantly surprised. Big menu from dogs and burgers to Mediterranean and veggie. Decent prices, nice folks. The space is a little run down but the food quality is 4+ star. Stop in and give them a try. Worth the visit.

I’ve lived down the street from this place for about 3 years and have always wanted to try it. I finally did! I walked in and was taken back by the appearance inside it looked to put it mildly aged. When I say aged I mean like they should probably not even be open. I ordered the hot dog, fries, and a coke against by Better judgement that wanted to run out and never return. As they prepared my order I regretted entering thee establishment more and more by the second. My order was a to go order so I sat on a stool and watched the only other person in this joint prepare it. She finally finished and was getting my drink which I assumed would come from their fountain soda machine. But instead she put ice in the cup and poured soda from a warm 2 liter into the cup as my fountain drink. I went home and debated whether or not I was going to eat what I had just purchased. I decided yes and it wasn’t half bad. Minus the soda which was flat and I tossed. Not quite sure yet… maybe if there is absolutely nothing else and I have a few bucks and want something close and convenient and am feeling adventurous with my life.

Small little restaurant near Sauganash, amazing Mediterranean food, the owners are really nice people! Check out the grilled chicken!

Top Dog is in the area of where I work. It always looked really cute and retro… and then I walked in. My question is, when was the last time this place was visited by a health inspector? The owner was as nice as could be. The falafel was probably the worst, crunchiest, saltiest, over-fried thing I have ever eaten. The cook used bare hands which also really grossed me out, considering how dirty the rest of the place looked. I wish I could have given this cute-on-the-outside place a better review.

OK, this spot doesn’t have the best reviews, but dagnabbit, we liked it. I ordered through GrubHub and I have to say, we pretty much liked everything we got. I had a cheeseburger, which was fine and certainly affordable. The fries were old fashioned fat crinkle cuts but not bad. I also tried their chili. It was meaty, spicy and good. Mom had the wild salmon burger and it was very good and certainly inexpensive. The portion was plentiful. She also had the Italian Wedding Soup and really enjoyed it. Look, I don’t care if they buy some of their stuff from Costco or Aldi. I mean, all restaurants buy their supplies from somewhere. They aren’t fishing the coast of Alaska for the fish nor riding the range for their beef. It is a friggin’ hot dog joint folks. BTW, their Kosher Dogs and Polish come from Romanian Sausage. For sure there can be no complaints about that. AND, they will provide Halal burgers and chicken on request. Well, that’s the story. I know we will try more in the future. Updates to follow.

I’m really not one for the greasy spoon, but it’s like a 2 minute walk for me so used to go there very frequently. Sometimes multiple times in a week and usually once every week. There was even a time where I went 4⁄7 days a week for a month or so. The owner is a very kind, warmhearted man. He’s usually wearing a baseball cap and is in his late fifties to early sixties, so make sure to strike out a conversation with him. The food is just okay. It’s really nothing to rave about. I usually get the Italian beef, the steak tacos, or the french fries. I have literally tried everything on the menu. Usually when I stop by I get an Italian Beef, a large fries, and a drink for fifteen dollars. Yes, fifteen dollars. I like their Italian beef a lot. It’s not Al’s, but it’s good. The fries are really good. The hamburger is not good. It is average, at best. I used to absolutely love their steak tacos, until one experience tainted my taste. I found out recently they very rarely use raw meat. Most of it is packaged frozen food bought in bulk from Costco. My steak tacos consisted of pre-cooked meat that was taken out of a dirty container that seemed like its been there for years. Didn’t taste as good that one time either. But I’m sure its a rare experience and it won’t happen to you, but I’m not taking my chances. Now, here is a major issue: I found a hair in my steak tacos. My friends that come here often say they find hairs frequently as well. It is also worth noting it has not been inspected recently so I might have been consuming expired food over the past three years. I appreciate the owner coming by every morning and working hard. But it’s pretty overpriced, and at least 50 trips there I have seen some weird things, and I’ll probably only come back for the fries or Italian beef four times a year.

Humble little diner dive, in the Peterson Park meets Sauganash area. Open daily till 8 pm, it serves the typical American favs like hot dogs, burgers, fries etc. It’s catch all is in the ownership, so there are far more offerings like salads, soups, Mexican food, seafood, Mediterranean food, pita stir fry, subs, falafels and more! Looking at the size of this tiny place you wouldn’t expect that they could prepare that many dishes. It’s a small spot as in, tables for about 4 to 6 people and then at the counter, at best, four petite hipsters could sit comfortably. Top dog has been in the hood for quite some time and on occasion I’ve made my trips over. It’s that last minute decision making whilst driving by. I like their all beef hot dogs, it’s not just a hot dog out of boiled water, there’s heart in its prep and the cook is happy to see new business. I’d even go as far as saying that their dogs are better served than some of the local char houses.

Talk about a hole in the wall that can’t comfortably seat 10 people but the food is great for a small greasy spoon. BLT, sausage and Italian beef are good. Love the fresh out of the fryer fries and the two guys that run the entire show.

This is one of those Mom & Pop places just minus the Mom. Though the owner Gus is an extremely nice and caring man. A good o’ boy you mite say. One of those guys that you don’t know how he gets up every morning to open the shop. But he has so many regulars(cool people to chat up) that I am sure he opens just for them now. Use to be a regular myself only working a couple blocks away. Food is good cause he makes it right there for you, he charges a little more then what you would expect but that’s how he supports the place. He makes the food usually and delivers himself if your in the area. Check it out if you have time to kill.
