Love this place great service food is good. They have some Indian beers. Buffet is awesome too. Ala carte make it expensive but I try to take advantage of a buffet if it’s available. Fairly clean place

The worst Indian food and delivery service I ever encountered in Chicago. Ordered food through GrubHub, only 1.5 miles away from my residence. Food arrived 1.5 hours late and cold. Very cold. The mango lassi was very thin and oddly warm — most likely because it absorbed all the heat from the once warmed food. The chicken tikka masala was too salty and cold, and the pani puri had an odd smell to it. Garlic naan was hard and stale. $ 45 was wasted here I will never get back. Food was ordered at 8:00p and arrived at my door at 10:30p. When I asked the staff delivery man what happened, he said it was because I ordered near their closing time and they had to make a fresh batch of everything and I need to order earlier next time. Too bad I smell BS and there will not be a next time. Save your taste buds and money. Go to Uru Swati who is in the same vicinity. They have hot, delicious food with accurate and trustworthy delivery times.

Great place, great food! I have been to several Indian restaurants before, and one of my favorite is in suburbs. We were not able to go there so decided to find a place nearby. Went on Sunday for a buffet which is only $ 12, but the variety of food is wide enough(maybe a little less than it could be, but still). Also, the atmosphere of the restaurant is pleasant and all the staff was nice. Will definitely go again.

This is review of the fast food place next door which is the same kitchen. I have been going to Viceroy for many years when I used to work in the area. I happen to be in Rogers Park on a Friday, craving a south indian dish so thought I would stop by. First I had to wait about 10 – 15 minutes before someone came to the counter. As I was about to go into the restaurant and ask the host what was going on, a guy FINALLY appeared. I gave him my order and then when I said it was for here, he told me that the seating area would open not until 2pm. WHAT? It was NOON. Are you expecting to get more people at 2 pm then noon on a weekday? Like I said I have been going for many, many, many years when I am in the area. I used to go when it was a dive. I used to go there when it wasn’t open for lunch at 11:00. I even went after I saw an exterminators arrive at the place a few years ago. If you are wondering why your place is empty, it is because of your service. GOODLUCK keeping your doors open much longer!

WORSTSERVICEEVER. Arrived at 3:30 on a Sunday with a Groupon… People were seated and eating others were just leaving. Me and a friend came in sat down and was told you can’t sit there… Ok we moved behind the people who were eating… NOYOUCAN“T SITTHERE! You have to go to the OTHER side and NO you can not use your Groupon until 5 pm. Extremely RUDE, I had hear the food was just OK… We passed. Returned the Groupon. Chicago is FILLED with wonderful Indian food try any place else.

I know Indian food tends to run a bit more expensive, but what we just got was ridiculous. We spent 40 for two small containers and two pieces of Naan. SUCH a rip-off, and the delivery guy was a jerk because he had to call. Never ordering from here again. Super confusing menu on grubhub, we thought we got rice with it at least but no. So upset right now, I can’t even.

I don’t know what all the bad reviews are about. Every time I come here(which has been many many times!) the food has been consistent and delicious. My go-to are the vegetable samosas, the chicken vindaloo with rice, and the garlic naan. The chicken is always perfectly juicy, boneless white meat with no bones or fat chunks which I know is common at some Indian places. The samosas are simply delicious. My only complaint is sometimes the chicken vindaloo is extremely spicy, and some days it is just super spicy(which it’s supposed to be lol). I especially love their green chutney. I put it on everything and always ask for more which they oblige for no extra charge. Really attentive polite waitstaff too. Give Viceroy a try!

I have really mixed feelings about this place. My daughter and I are huge fans of Indian food, and decided to come here last night. The restaurant itself is nice, with a huge dining room and bar in the front. What I don’t like is that everything is a la carte. They have an ample menu with fish, lamb, chicken, shrimp or vegetarian dishes, but they don’t come with anything. Not even rice, or naan(Indian bread that’s like pita) for the table. They do give you some sort of flatbread or cracker in a basket with some sauces, but it’s not nearly as good as their naan! They have many good dishes so it was hard to choose. We ordered: Samosas for an appetizer Chicken Tikka Chicken Tikka Masala An order of biryani(basmati rice) Saag paneer an order of Naan The samosas come two to the order, and they’re much larger than ones at other Indian restaurants I’ve been to. My daughter loves them, and these were very good, at $ 5.50. The chicken tikka, at $ 14.95, is wonderful! Slightly spicy, boneless breasts of chicken that they marinate and cook in a clay oven. It’s delicious, and an ample portion. The chicken tikka masala, on the other hand, is chicken cubes in a savory tomato cream sauce, and it comes in a small bowl. This is my very favorite Indian dish, and also at $ 14.95, I would have expected a larger portion. Especially since you have to order rice separately.(You can eat it by itself, but it goes well over rice.) They have several varieties of rice, at various prices. We had the jeera rice, which is traditional Indian basmati. An order is $ 3.95 and it’s a small bowl. Saag paneer is my favorite Indian vegetable dish, so we ordered that to share.($ 12.95…which I thought was pricey. It comes in another small bowl, like the chicken tikka masala and the rice.) It’s spinach with cheese cubes and spices.(I like Indian Garden’s better, but this was good.) Finally, the naan, which comes in various varieties. We ordered the traditional one with garlic. It’s $ 2.50 for three pieces, and it’s awesome. Finally, with the Unilocal check in, we received a free dish of their kulfi, which is mango ice cream. Now that was the worst thing of the night. It had freezer burn, and looked old. We each took a bite and left it. Not good at all! Our servers were very attentive, and made sure our water glasses stayed filled. With the spices involved, that was a good thing. Everything was flavorful and delicious, but at $ 60 for two of us, we wouldn’t come often. I had an expired Groupon for here that we were never able to use. While I knew we wouldn’t get the 2 meals for $ 25 deal, I was happy to receive the value of what I paid($ 12) off of our bill. I think for Indian, the best way to go is the buffet, which Viceroy has for lunch. I think it’s about $ 20 per person, and you get to try several different dishes. I’m sure if/when we have the buffet, it will be a 4 – 5 star rating.

Went for a business dinner with colleagues after work. 6 of us shared family style, ordered 5 entrees, rice and garlic nan. With 5 entrees and 3 orders of nan we were worried it would not be enough for us but it proved to be more than we could all finish, and none of us are small eaters. They do serve beer and wine as well. Chicken Tikka Masala was spiced perfectly and had a generous portion of chicken which some places tend to skimp on, some of the best I have experienced. This was exactly the experience with the chicken Vindaloo as well, great portion and fantastic spice level. Just the correct amount of head sweat as you got the food past your mouth, but not enough to be painful or cause anyone to be unable to eat it. We also had shrimp Masala that was a great addition to the meal along with lamb Saag and finally our one vegetarian dish of Chana Pindi. This was a meal that had all of the flavors of India represented. Service was great, with the caveat that we were one of only three groups in the place. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys Indian food.

I took a few of my friends here recently to go to the lunch buffet, and the food was hot and delicious. The service was really good, too. The waiters were very attentive, but not in our faces all the time. Frankly, I’m very surprised by all the bad reviews. The buffet had several meat dishes(chicken makhani, too!), several salads, sauces, and even three desserts. They have samosas(which are usually at least $ 2/piece), which also make it a tremendous value. They also have all the accompanying sauces(including tamarind for the the samosas). And everything was yummy. I keep going back here because I haven’t found a better lunch buffet on Devon yet.

We check out various Indian lunch buffets in the area and also in Milwaukee and Madison. We always go back to Viceroy on Devon because their food is consistently excellent and staff is friendly. The best home made ice cream ever. Parking is easy now that the whole street has been redone with new lamp posts and sidewalks. Great shopping afterwards. We enjoy walking around the area after lunch. You can find the best spices in the grocery stores.

I had idea what to expect when I came here. I was with a client of Indian decent. I am such a picky eater but the food was amazing. I had their lunch buffet and everything I tried was perfect.

I am done getting food from Viceroy. They are terrible at delivery and Customer Service. I have lived in Rogers Park for years and have frequented the restaurant many times and generally thought the food was good. After ordering for delivery online I will say I will never order from them again. On Unilocal it said delivery time was between 45 – 60 min. After completing the online ordering forms I got a text saying my delivery will be actually be an hour and 20 min later. So I tried to cancel the order online but did not get a timely cancellation so I called the restaurant which the online ordering had as an option. The Viceroy person on the phone said the food is almost done and will be delivered promptly and told me everything will be fine and the food will go out. 10 minutes later the same guy called me again saying the food went out in the delivery car and should be here soon. With these 2 calls I thought they would have the situation handled. I was wrong. After waiting one hour I called the restaurant. They forwarded me to a manager who said the online order cancellation came through as the food was out for delivery and they cancelled it. So I had been sitting for an hour expecting food. He then began arguing and trying to blame it on me and the online ordering. There was no apology. No sign of remorse. No effort to help out THEIR customer. The only thing they offered was to re-send it out in 30 min or so. I had already been waiting almost an hour and a half at this point. What should have happened was they could have done some customer service and called saying it was cancelled can you pay cash. Or figure out a solution at the point it was cancelled. They had done it at the beginning of the process when I called but not at the end when problems occurred. I am done with Viceroy because of the way they handled this situation. They should have been better to their customer in this situation and instead they tried to push it off.

My girlfriend and I came in on a Wednesday night with a Groupon. We ordered the Chicken Tiki Masala and Lamb Vindaloo chef specials which included rice and naan. I can agree with other reviews that the portions are small for the price but they provided a more than satisfying meal for the two of us. We enjoyed the flavors and spices and left happy customers. Overall it was a good experience hence the 3 star review. Not the best but definitely a good dinner especially with a Groupon. Only complaint would be more rice with the meals.

I’m so obsessed with Indian food, I minored in Indian Studies in college. #truestory. The buffet is huge and excellent, and features North as well as South Indian food. Service is wonderful, and the folks who are giving bad reviews here should honestly come back and give it another try. I’ve been going here almost a decade, and have never had a bad experience.

Since moving from New York City we were looking forward to having authentic Indian food. We looked at several reviews prior to purchasing a Groupon. Although the traffic as well as the parking was hideous we truly were looking forward to our meal. Upon entering the restaurant we could tell that there weren’t too many patrons. Three couples to be exact. However it was clean, and the wait staff attentive. We ordered the mixed grill platter & the vegetable biriyani. Both entrees weren’t terrible, however I have had better. The tandoori chicken would have been better if cooked longer, the rice wasn’t jasmine but looked like«Uncle Bens“and it had a lot of oil in the bottom of the dish. Overall I would give the food 2.5 stars, the service 4 stars and the décor 3 stars. I wouldn’t make this restaurant my 1st choice in the future.

The food here is always pleasurable to the mouth. They are Indian, so you have to have an acquired taste for ethnic food. and be open minded to try things that you have never tried before. You will not be disappointed. The best time for you to come is when they have open buffet. Otherwise you will have to remember the name of the dish it is which was pleasing to your taste buds.

Viceroy of India is one of the better looking Indian places on Devon st. It almost looked like a hotel interior when we walked in and I was excited by that. Service was on spot for the most part but food was definitely not up to mark. We ordered Masala dosa and vegetarian biriyani as our entrees. The potato curry inside the dosa was oily and salty. It was so oily that the oil made dosa soggy and I could see a huge deposit on the wax paper that it was layered on. I really liked the Tomato chutney that it was served with so I ended up having the dosa avoiding the potato curry in the middle. My husband who loves potatoes did not even touch it after the first bite. I also had the chance to sample some Biriyani that my husband got. It was good but definitely not great. It tasted fine with the raita so no complaints there. Finally we had Mango Kulfi ice cream and Masala tea. My husband commented that Mango Kulfi was not at all worth it for it’s price($ 5.95). Masala tea was not up to standard either. I regularly order Masala tea at all Indian restaurants and this would be in the bottom 3. However with that being said — I will give them high marks for their service and restaurant atmosphere. With that being said, I really wish they would pay attention to their restrooms. Restrooms don’t have heat(!) so it was extremely cold and had a nasty smell. It looked as though it has not been cleaned for day or two at the least. The paper towel roll was empty near the sink and their air dryer was neither effective nor hot enough to dry hands. Overall, the restaurant felt like a house where owners have spent time cleaning the living room to have guests but have forgotten to clean the kitchen and restroom. They have potential to improve upon but I don’t think I would be back unfortunately.

The place looks good, looks like a fine-dining place and service was good. Entrance to this place a little weird though. We were a group of 5 and we ate for $ 150, was it worth it? ABSOLUTELYNOT. I thought it was worth maybe $ 20−22/ head. So, I can defintely think this place is over-priced. We ordered the mirchi pakora, which I heard was spicy but tasted a little stale. The panner, comments around the table were it was pretty hard but it was OK. The chicken 65, was not the«traditional/authentic» one, because it was more of an Indo-Chineese version which tasted really good in my opinion. We got the old delhi lamb chops — which is DEFINTELYNOT A DESISTYLEDISHFYI. It was more AMERICAN. We never get LAMB like those. It never mentioned it was going to come with BONES and like that :| :| We got bread basket with Goan Fish Curry and Veg Manchurian balls. Bread basket came with ¾ varieties of bread with 4 pieces each — all were good. The goan Fish curry was ok. I have defnitely had better, Veg manchurian balls were pretty good though. Was better than non-veg counterpart. The chicken briyani was Ok but apparently smelt funny. I didnt smell anything weird. There were a couple of cocktails around the table which were good apparently. We got a free mango kulfi which was Ok. — UnilocalCHECK-IN. Worst part was. One server came and saw the coupon, took it to the register, brought our check but didnt bring the KULFI and then I had to ask some other younger gentleman to get it which he obliged. This is probably not an Aunthentic place, especially in the streets of DEVON. It’s been modified to suit the palates of general crowd. DONOTRECOMMENDTHISPLACE!!!
