Huge. Passable breakfast fare. Crowded and loud on the weekends.

My colleague and I had exactly 40 minutes to grab an early breakfast before our 8am meeting. As a result of my experience with one of the hotel restaurants, I was determined to venture out and get something tasty to start our day. Lucky for us I had seen a place a few blocks away on one of my walks the day before. We got to West Egg Café by about 7:25am and were promptly seated. I was surprised to see how actually full the place was despite it only had been open since 7am. Good sign though. Our server handed us over the menu and I was thrilled to see the very extensive breakfast options – over 2 pages worth. Skillets, omelets, steak & eggs, hashes, yogurt parfaits, eggs benedict… and the list goes on! I didn’t have too much time to dwell over my options so I settled for the traditional eggs, bacon, country potatoes, and English muffin plate. My colleague had the eggs & sausage with biscuits & gravy. I think we only waited for no more than 3 minutes and our food was delivered – steaming hot and it smelled heavenly. I enjoyed my breakfast and the bacon was delish.(They also gave a ton of it – about 5 or 6 slices). My colleague really enjoyed his biscuit and gravy too! Our bill for both of our items with coffee came up to about $ 21. Not bad at all for a place smack dab downtown Chicago. Best of all – the quick and expedient service. We were seated and ready in the conference room of our hotel promptly at 8am. You know what they say, breakfast is the most important meal of the day!

The breakfast here is great if you don’t mind the wait. Note that the address is wrong though. Its not in the loop on Washington, its in Streeterville on Ontario.

Went here on a saturday morning with a group of 8. It was packed, but the wait was only about 15 minutes. Once sat, I ordered«The Big Easy», Andouille sausage, eggs, cheese, in a skillet. You got my vote with that! Service was fast, drink was never empty, and food came fast!

The little host quoted our wait as «18 minutes,» which I thought was a bit exact. We overheard him subsequently quote other parties«17 minutes» and«16 minutes» so I wondered how he was able to get to such precise waiting times. Unfortunately, I didn’t time our wait so I don’t know whether or not it was, indeed, an 18-minute wait. Nonetheless, the food was good, but I didn’t think it was great. My Grabowski was good, but very much on the greasy side.

cringe. A few«colleagues» invited me out to lunch with them here. One of them was raving about it, but my meal fell very short. I ordered a veggie egg white omelet. nothing too fancy. What I got was watery egg goop with CUCUMBERS and tomatoes. boring. and, really. cucumbers in an omelet? It made it watery and just icky. I’m not one to waste food, so I drenched it in hot sauce to finish it. If I must go back, I will definitely order something different.

Even though the wait seems forever, it’s really actually short! Great place to come for breakfast, brunch or lunch. Service is fast, and food was really good! I’ll be back if in the ‘hood!

Worth the walk! The service is fast, the prices are great(as is the coffee) and the breakfast menu is wonderful– complete and very eclectic. My friend Karma had what she described as «the best blueberry pancakes» of her life, and I had a California-style benedict that had turkey and avocado– perfect avocado, I might add. Not brown or mushy nor, conversely, too hard or unripe. It came with home fried potatoes that were also great– oftentimes, they’re either too greasy or doused in rosemary or both. These were not– just potato-y and lovely. I would definitely seek this place out when I’m in Chicago again. It seems the locals are not as enchanted with this place as I was– if there’s something shockingly better for breakfast in the area, please let me know! I’d be surprised.

Short of anything special but not horrible. You go there for eggs, and thats what you get. Prices are so so along with service. Dont make a special trip for this place.

This is a place where you know what you are going to get. No frills. It is what it is. Reasonably priced for a downtown breakfast. Packed on a Sunday morning but the turn around is pretty good. I would not make a special trip for this place, but if you are in the area, it is a decent choice for breakfast.

Great place for breakfast. Try their breakfast specials — one of the best deals with the quality and quantity of food for only $ 5. They’re open as early as 6am, too. Service is always friendly and quick.
