Wicker Park Post Office

This location is garbage, along with most USPS service & locations these days.
USPS phone numbers listed on their official website are often outdated/​incorrect.
USPS never calls back from customer service (which has an unreasonably long wait time of an hour or more on any given day)! Seriously, WTF?!
Even if one succeeded at dialing the correct number, no one would answer anyways… so what’s the point in having phones?
GOD forbid they invest in a voicemail attendent or voicemail box.
They «attempt» to make deliveries all the time, just failing to do so, even when the homeowner and/​or business owner is present and at home waiting patiently for their package.
Sometimes these packages are incredibly important & time sensitive, and yet the mail carriers (or lazy a$$holes, as I like to call them) don’t so much as «attempt» to knock or ring the doorbell. Often if they don’t see a doorbell, they’ll just opt-​out of the next sensible full-​proof method of communication (which is knocking)! They don’t knock! I mean, why would they? It’s only their job…
They’d much rather place blame on the recipient, stating the location was closed, rather then make a reasonable effort! FedEx can figure it out, so why not USPS?!
It hasn’t even been fifteen days (business and/​or calendar) and yet my package was shipped back to the recipient. Even their courtesy hold times at locations are not honored, which is pathetic.
Damn you USPS for making me this upset, and wasting all our valuable time & resources shipping items back & forth, rather than just trying to have your mail carriers do their job properly the first time around.
I hate USPS, and hope they rot in hell. Anyone working for this operation clearly does not have any professional standards, or regard for their customer’s sanity.

What’s the point of having a phone when none of you people answer? I swear USPS sucks!

First off, why is there even a phone number for this place if they never answer the phone. I’ve called this place multiple times on separate issues and never speak to anyone.
Second, I find it hard to believe anyone rates this location over 3 stars ever. I’ve been in this area for 8 years and have always had a sub par experience.
I’ve had everything from slow service, bad service, rude service, mis information, had to pay more money for stamps because they didn’t have the correct size.
I know the postal service is loosing money but maybe a good game plan to keep people coming back is to hire some decent workers. I do everything in my power to avoid going to this place.

My boyfriend is overseas in the military, and I have come to dread frequent runs to the post office. This location, however, was much more pleasant! There was a line around 4 on a Friday, but the two ladies working got everyone through much faster than I’ve experienced elsewhere, and also had a much more pleasant demeanor.

Absolutely the worst. So my mom sent a package from Florida for myself and my brothers. It was sent priority mail needing a signature to my business. Included were three stocking with a little under $ 500 cash. Normally she sends checks, but figured cash would be easier. It said it was signed for at 7:22 pm on Tuesday the 22^nd of December. A few days after Christmas I talk to my mom inquiring about the package. I find it was signed for yet I have no package. I call Usps get put on hold for 20 mins then talk to a woman who has no idea what happened and has to talk to the carrier who of course is not in for two days. I call three times give my info again and again and we’re told I would get a call back. Of course noone calls back and noone has any idea what happened. So I deduced they just handed it to someone who was outside and had them sign for it without checking who it was. Either that or they left it on the sidewalk outside my work. Either way it is gross incompetence and I see why FedEx is doing so well and Usps is falling apart. Just use FedEx I’ve never had a problem with them. Thanks for ruining Christmas, I literally had to lie to my mom and tell her I found the package because of how bad she felt. O also it’s also January 3^rd been waiting a week for that call back.

This place blows. There is always only one person working who literally does the bare minimum while a couple other employees pop their heads out of the back and then disappear. And I really enjoyed you gulping your pop and then burping into my face as I handed you my package. Charming.

I am giving them 3 stars because they weren’t terrible but also not terribly helpful in helping me recover a package. One of our packages inexplicably ended up at the Mail Recovery Center (dead letter) in Atlanta. I was told by the people at Carroll street that I had to go to this office to fill out a form. The form I received was for items that had been separated from their packaging. I told her I thought it was the wrong form but she insisted it was the right form. It may be the case, but at this stage I had read about how impossible it was to retrieve items once they get to that center and I had been given a lot of wrong information by various people over the phone. Anyhow, I came across a random blog suggesting that you contact the local USPS Consumer Affairs office to recover a package. I felt I had to write this review because it may give hope to anyone that is in the same desperate situation I was in. I highly suggest you call that office if you are having issues with mail (and maybe ask for Sheila!). She went out of her way to find someone to talk to in Atlanta while she had me on the phone. She finally called someone she knew there who went and got the package and forwarded it to us.

Busy even on a Tuesday afternoon, and only 1 person working behind the counter. Another employee came in from some other room and took her time to start helping the solo employee.

Normally going into a US Post Office is like pulling teeth, but this one was not bad. The building was clean, the line was short and swift, and I was greeted with a smile. I was in and out in like 5 minutes. Definitely my most pleasant USPS experience. I wish they were all like this…

I wish I could give no stars. Horrible service. I’d only go here if you’re putting mail in the slot and leaving without talking to anyone. The workers are rude, unhelpful. Need tape? Buy it. Need a pen? Tough luck. I wish I didn’t have to use them.

whoa. I’m writing a review on a post office.
Usually the thought of going to USPS gives me a nightmare (yes, they’re usually that bad), but this one was actually pleasant! They’re right off the blue line, and they close at 7 pm. The guy there was nice and even wished me an early happy birthday! A pleasant surprise, I must say.

The employees understand absolutely nothing about customer service. Please learn to treat customers with more respect! Smiling is free :)

Truly some of the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced.
I had a large package to mail and knew there was a chance it would be too large (my mom has worked for USPS for thirty years, so I know how things work.) After waiting for half an hour while the clerks let person after person go ahead of me, a lady finally weighed my package and measured it. It was just BARELY too big and she told me they couldn’t mail it, with absolutely no apology for that OR my ridiculous wait.
All while this has all been happening, another postal worker has been standing in the middle eating a snack and also offering no help. And to top it all off, the clerk criticized the way I wrote my addresses. I know USPS clerks have a tough job, but that’s no excuse to treat people like garbage.

They don’t answer the phone, don’t bother calling. Employees are insulting, slow, rude, lazy, unproffesional, and nasty.

I have always had a pleasant or good experience at this location since renovation to Ashland spot. Today in particular was a great experience. The associate was so incredibly helpful, calling out a problem w my shipping label, taping the bottom of my box for extra security (and for free… I’ve been asked to buy tape), and just over all pleasant. I am not sure what’s changed since the new location but keep it up! Lucille you’re great!

So after being totally done with the awful customer service at pretty much every USPS office I’ve been too thus far. suddenly this one proved me wrong. I went in the office yesterday around 4:30 — apparently when everyone else decided to stop in as well. The kiosk was down so it was an extremely long line but the employees worked fast and efficiently — while still staying friendly in a bad situation — apologizing and thanking patrons for waiting patiently.
Final Verdict:
If I have mail to send out I’ll be stopping by this USPS location for sure!

I do understand people’s gripes about the post office, it was really worse for me in the other post office location.
The manager (not sure if she is new or not) has been great in teaching everyone how to use the automated machine and is very friendly. I usually get my package ready before I go there and just wait in line to check in my package. Lucile is my go to person who is always makes me laugh, she is cordial and friendly. I can’t remember the other lady’s name, but Tech 21 is also nice and usually with Lucile in the front. I think people should give this location a second chance because they are showing great customer service and shows a promise of just getting better.

To preface my comment, this review is based on an encounter at non-​peak business hours (2:30 pm on a Tuesday). Overall, a great experience. I waited for about one minute before reaching the front of the cue. The clerk (Donna) was great (happy, helpful, and positive). Answered my simple question without hesitation and went out of her way to facilitate a positive customer experience (offered to put mail in outgoing bin for me, put international stamp in a place that didn’t obstruct anything on the postcard). I was out the door in less than five minutes.
The USPS is a immensely valuable resource that is in danger of disappearing forever. Despite being grossly underfunded and understaffed, I think they do a pretty good job in general. Thanks for the brief and smily encounter, Donna. Made my day!

Let me start with I will never give a place a bad review based on one experience, it has to be at least 3 and in this case I am at number 5. I am a small business owner that doesn’t make it to the post office often as it’s not so convenient. But I get there twice a month to pick up my mail. This all started when they moved to this location. They moved, which I didn’t even know they were moving and when they got there, the P.O. boxes weren’t set up. So please come back they asked. So I came back the next time and the keys didn’t work in the post office box. So every time you needed your mail you showed your ID and they would get it for you, until the new keys came in. Fine I get it, there are challenges in moving. So finally about a month later I get my key. They will only give me one key because I only had one key on me. What’s the point of having 2 keys if you keep them both on you at all times? What if you lose them both. In my case I keep my extra key with my mom, just in case I get hit by a bus and end up in the hospital, she can still collect our checks to keep our business running. So fine, they tell me to come back with my other key when I get it… which was today. I show up with my second key to exchange it. Finally got it back from my ICE (in case of emergency) So I wait in line, I give her my ID and my key and ask to exchange it. All of a sudden I am not authorized on my own P.O. box because they can’t find in THEIR records that I am indeed the person that opened the account! When this box was opened I was told that my name AND my business name were going to be on it. Which I assumed was the case since I have gotten mail that was addressed to me personally there! So fine after further investigation, they find out that they can’t even get to my additional key because it is locked up in the safe! Fine I get it some things are out of our control. So I politely ask if they could get my mail for me. They had my government issued ID, my business card that says President, and my bank card that has both my name and my company name on it. They told me they couldn’t get it for me and that I have to come back tomorrow. I then asked why they could do it before. So basically this place makes you suffer for their mistakes. The mistakes have been.
1. Post office boxes not set up right after the move
2. Post office boxes set up but with wrong locks
3. Consistently inconsistent procedures
4. Incorrectly labeling post office boxes with both authorized names, human and business.
5.Inaccurate records to show who actually opened and authorized the PO box within the company
Honestly if it wasn’t such a process to change the billing addresses with all my customer and vendors, I’d gtf out of there. So yeah, if you want have a non stressful day, avoid this place! This place makes me understand the term GOING POSTAL!

The Wicker Park USPS just moved around the corner to 1240 N. Ashland. If you’ve been to the old location, you know the line can be 10 – 20 deep at times (almost to the door). The new location is SMALLER! Who’s idea was that?
The only reason this review is for 2 stars instead of 1 is because there actually is a worse USPS facility: 1419 W Carroll St.
The grumpy staff came along with the move, so that’s fun.
It’s almost like the USPS is challenging you to give them your business.
