So maybe Edgwater just south of Rogers Park is not known for their sushi, but I suspect it’s because people are sleeping on a couple of fabulous spot. Yokozuna by definition is a grand champion sumo wrestler, and this spot is definitely a grand champion sushi spot for the northside. Located right next to the Bryn Mawr stop, it’s easy to waltz right past it(I know because I did). It’s very unassuming, fairly standard décor, but clean and tidy. The service: Very attentive. Admittedly there weren’t a ton of people to serve because it was a slow night, as places tend to be on a Monday night when it’s freezing. Nevertheless, our waitress was great. 5+ for attendance. Appetizers: Had the Gyoza and Miso Soup. Pretty standard fair. Sorta hard to mess those up. Rolls: Boston Maki= A– Philly Maki=A Spicy Tuni=A Negihamachi=A As a side note, I don’t know what Pandora station they were playing in the background, but the old school R&B was on point and that just added to the experience.

I was not impressed with this place at all. The delivery was fast but the sushi itself was not great. No taste. Very bland. I had never had Mochi Ice Cream before and I’m glad I tried it, very good. I wouldn’t eat here again.

Absolutely great sushi, my personal favorite is the White Mamba Maki. Not much to say except they have fantastic food. Outdated décor and not too much ambiance, but the food makes up for it. BYOB.

Wow! Fresh and delicious! I ordered pickup through Unilocal while I was around the corner getting my nails done– how cool is that? I had the miso soup, seaweed salad and White Sox roll; Go Sox! The employees were warm and and gracious. I’m definitely going back soon.

Came in with my sister for happy hour which meant that most of their basic rolls were $ 3.50 each(cash only!). While this is a pretty good price for the area, I can’t help but compare to back in LA where rolls are $ 2.75 each. The sushi is all right, but can be bland in flavor. However, the waitress who served us was very polite and sweet with great customer service, so no complaints. I also live right around the corner, so I can’t comment on parking, except that it’s conveniently located near a red line stop for anyone that prefers to train!

I ordered some tempura udon and dumplings. And holly molly that was amazing, specially now a days. You don’t wanna miss their chefs signature big rolls. I’m not really big fan if raw fish, so me and my friends ordered chicago fire and caterpillar rolls. It was stunning. Honestly, the service and the price was pretty good. Not like overpriced, very decent. We’re glad that finally we found this amazing spot. Will definitely return. For sure:)))

they have vegetarian options, which is a +. Their delivery is really slow and rolls are average tasting.

Most of their sushi name is related to Chicago: D I tried the Ozeki, Bear and chef’s special: D I like the Ozeki it is pretty good I would definitely recommend it. Chef’s special was unique, he made me some kind of rose looking tunas. That was amazing: D Thank you I will come back again: D

This place is pretty awesome! I had a sushi craving for almost a year, and decided to order from here… Delicious! I was so used to eating at a certain spot up north which I thought had phenomenal sushi(I stopped going due to a personal dillema), but once I ordered sushi from here, it definitely hit the spot! Please try the ozeki maki, and the spicy tuna. My favorites. The rice and the fish were fresh, which is a big plus for me because most places taste like the food was in the fridge for days. Overall, great place! 5 stars!

I had to wait quite some time to go here, because they were under construction a while. Finally got there & the Gyoza was the best thing I had. The sushi was bland & the rice was stale like the stick rice from grocery store sushi. It rolls were clearly not fresh made & a touch warm even. I was excited to go, but won’t ever be back.

Kinda mad at my helpers for this one. I have had better sushi at the grocery store. It was all substandard and low quality. Fake crab. Fake shrimp. 1⁄10 of the $ 14 roll was actual fish. Just bad

Ordered takeout from here to satisfy a serious sushi craving. We ordered a variety of nigiri: clam, salmon, white tuna, shrimp, and mackerel, as well as a spicy tuna roll. The quality of the sushi was good. The fish smelled fresh and tasted the same. I’m from Boston so I’m used to really fresh seafood and all the nigiri we ordered from Yokozuna was definitely quality. I recommend the clam for sure. The spicy tuna roll was pretty average however and didn’t really have the kick I was looking for. One thing that stood out to me was the prices. The nigiri ranged in price from $ 2-$ 3 depending on the type; which is on the pricier side of sushi. However the spicy tuna roll was under $ 5, as well as a lot of the maki was wayyyy cheaper than I’m used to seeing, which was a nice bonus. Overall we will probably order takeout from here again. It came quickly, was fresh, and the prices are decent, but it just didn’t stand out enough for 5 stars.

This place is over-rated. I was expecting so much more based on all the Unilocal reviews. With Ora very close by, it’s very hard for me to justify going to Yokozuna. We ordered the Wasabi Shuma(steamed pork dumpling) and Aged Dashi-Tofu(deep fried tofu with special sauce) for appetizers. The Wasabi Shuma’s level of wasabi was inconsistent with each dumpling. One would be loaded with wasabi causing a fire in your mouth and one would pale in comparison with hardly any wasabi at all. It was like playing Russian roulette with wasabi as the ammunition. The fried tofu was large in size, but was heavily breaded and just okay. We ordered the mexi-maki roll, spicy tuna roll, and the white mamaba roll for our entrée. All were okay, but nothing exceptional. The décor was diveier and kind of bland. They also had double sided laminated menus. It reminded me more of a fast food Chinese place. I guess this décor is okay on some nights, but I was expecting more.

The sushi was good, but there are definitely better options nearby(Taketei, Ora) for nearly the same price. I am personally not a fan of cream cheese or most tempura in my sushi, and the menu has quite a bit of both.

Yokozuna serves Angus Beef Teriyaki which is as tough to chew as the Champion Sumo Wrestler. There is a large bowl of Miso Soup to start lunch followed by a balanced serving of Beef Teriyaki, Sautééd Vegetables with Sesame Seeds, and plenty of white rice. Since the Angus Beef Teriyaki was chopped up in small pieces, I tried to chew on those bites, even though the Angus Beef was really tough to swallow. So, I only consumed half of the Beef Teriyaki and drank the Green Tea. Just for trying the Shrimp Tempura with Vegetables, I was glad that I did not have to chew so hard on the crispy Shrimp Tempura, Sweet Potatoes slices, Zucchini, Broccoli, and the rest of the tempura. The specialty at Yokozuna is sushi, not beef teriyaki.

I had a serious craving for sushi and this place took good care of it– and fast! I was in on a Friday night around 8:30 and there was only one other table. I was served quickly and politely and the food hit the spot. It’s byob so be sure to bring your own supplies if you want. I would definitely recommend it!

I got the Krazy, alaskan, and ozeki. Meh. Oseki was good but way way too expensive for quality. I wouldn’t order from here again.

Had to try Yokuzuna. Walk by almost every day. We ordered a sashimi dinner, Uzeki roll and a lakeshore Roll. The Uzeki was pretty good. Nice and creamy topped with a scallop but not a roll I can say stands out from any other sushi bar. Lake shore roll had a lot of great ingredients like eel, shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, cilantro, jalapeños, and avocado, but it just didn’t hit. The roll is kinda blah, tastes almost like take out sushi from the grocery store warmed up. The cilantro didn’t come it at all in the roll. The server was the dj who continued to flip through the music and kept the phone on speaker while calling someone on the house phone, which apparently was a busy line. Sashimi. Oh man the sashimi. Tuna was definitely frozen tuna, like the ones you buy at an asian store that come in packs, nice and bright red in colors. The sashimi was not as fresh as I likes it to be and a couple of pieces tasted and smelled fishy. I believe this place is best for delivery, but if you’re looking for a great sushi bar out, Yokuzuna isn’t the place.
