I’ve been coming to this fine established business since I was a little kid. Now that I am in my 30’s I never had a bad experience and they’re always helpful. When you walk into home depot you have to chase someone down for help and if your lucky maybe that person might know what your talking about. Not Yu’s hardware.

I needed a few keys made recently and was excited to find a traditional hardware store near my house. The keys were done very quickly so I wasn’t able to look around much but they seemed to have all the basics. Oh and the keys were cut well and work without issue.

This is a GREAT place!!! They cut glass for windows and it is perfect! Plus they have everything. AND they explain how to do things without talking down to me… amazing and great!!! PLEASE go here and keep them in business. They are THE BEST!!! (And they make sure you have ‘everything you need’ before you walk out the door…’ That is even greater! Good prices!

I live less than two blocks from here so they’re always my first stop when looking for something hardware-​related. Sometimes they have what I want and sometimes they don’t, but when they don’t, the big box retailers usually don’t have it, either, so I can’t really complain (I guess I’m looking for really obscure stuff).
I bought a replacement deadbolt lock here a few months ago, but it never really had good «action» and sometimes the bolt wouldn’t even turn, no matter how I adjusted it. Finally I broke down and bought a replacement one at a big box retailer, which worked great. I took the old one back to Yu Hardware and while they of course weren’t thrilled to give me a refund, they didn’t balk at it, either. That’s good customer service even when they stand to lose in the short term. I really appreciate that.

Helpful and friendly. A throwback type of place that knows what they’re doing. They make keys that work correctly, unlike some larger places. Well stocked with hardware, you can bring in a fitting or screw and they’ll pull a replacement. No more wandering around Home Depot for half an hour and then going home with a 100-​count box of screws that you need 3 of.

Yu is the best! I love that it is a mom an pop business and they always help me get what I need and take the time to see what my project may be so that I get the right items. The advice I have gotten from them has saved me time and money

I went yesterday and I told Mr. Yu that he has great reviews on Unilocal.He humbly said «Oh it’s because of that guy» (pointing to the other man). The other man said, «Oh he’s a nice guy too.» It was sweet. They like each other.
Also, I want to support small business and they seemed to be helpful.

Great neighborhood hardware store, well-​stocked for its size. In the era of the big-​box hardware stores (H. Depot) and chains that have gotten more like K-​Marts (Ace) its very nice to have a locally owned and operated, small footprint, hardware store. I get my picture frame glass, keys, fasteners, and most of my hardware supplies from Yu. I always feel well-​served and accommodated. I like places that let me bring my dog inside, since I can run errands while I’m on a walk.

Home Depot was sold out of window insulation kits. Serves me right for going to Home Depot, a mile from my house, instead of this great little pack rat’s nest, a quarter mile away. I’ve learned my lesson.

Walking to Yu Hardware from my apartment took 10 minutes, I was in there less than 5 minutes (and got exactly what I needed for under $ 5), and then walked home in 10 minutes. There’s a good chance that I wouldn’t have even made it into Home Depot in that amount of time. Plus at Yu Hardware they did the looking for me, and then explained how to use the tool I was buying. I really appreciate having a quality local hardware store.

Yu hardware is one of the last of the great neighborhood hardware stores. Go into see Mr. Yu and they might explain he is retired, but John or Jose are there and ready to help. Tell them what your project or problem is and they will tell you what you need to solve it. I am always amazed by the amount of stock they have as well as they services they offer. Fix windows, screens, cut pipe, almost everything.

Stepping into Yu Hardware is like stepping into a hardware store from the past, but in a idealized version of a store from «The Good Old Days». The stock is piled to the tin-​roofed ceiling in a semi-​orderly jumble of goods, but there is always someone on hand to get you exactly what you need in half the time it takes you to walk from your car to the front door at Home Depot. They thread pipes, re-​glaze windows, make keys, and have just about anything you need on hand. Hidden, perhaps, but they are there to find it for you. Please give this business your patronage! It is absolutely the perfect argument for service over price… but they are competitive on that too!

Great friendly owner. He greets you as soon as you walk in the door and then finds whatever you need. And then it costs you 50 cents. Also stocks hard to find items. Why bother going to Home Depot where you walk around like a zombie for hours, looking for some help when you can just shop here?

I was looking to have keys made in Logan Square, and based on Paul B’s review I came here. While prices are up to $ 1.25 (oh no!) I was thrilled with the speed and accuracy with which my keys were made. What can I say, I respect quality craftsmanship. It’s refreshing to see an old-​school hardware store too.

I own some condos in the area that I am working on and needed to get some key copies made. This place only charges $ 1 per key and they have excellent friendly service. Just tell them what you need and they probably have it. Can’t go wrong with a place like this. Plus when you go in take a look up, it has the original tin ceiling. Not in good shape… but its great to look at.
