What happened to this place? When we started going here a few years ago, the lot would be packed and the food was fresh and delicious. The last few times I’ve been here, the large place has been almost empty, and the food tastes like bad hospital food. The cornbread is more like an odd custard, and the food is just bland and tired. I used to love their fresh, broth based vegetable soup with pimento cheese sandwich. It would make me excited to eat here just thinking about it. The last couple of times I’ve had the soup, it now tastes like someone poured canned veggie mix into canned tomato sauce and called it soup. Awful. There has been a rash of previously great meat-and-threes in the area now becoming awful and sub-par. This place can sadly be added to the list. Did they lose a great cook or something? Is it under new management? It’s such a mystery to me. We’re in the South, people. Meat-and-threes are what we do well, food-wise, so it peeves me when vegetables taste like bad cafeteria food. If they get it together like it was previously, I might be back.

Disappointing. Food was ordinary and service slow, but friendly. Maybe Saturday lunch is not a good time; they were not very busy.

Best Catfish I’ve had… Don’t believe me? We made it when we recently filmed our show This N That on newschannel9 from there… Check it out: Great place!

While visiting the Chickamauga Battlefield, we read reviews and decided to try The Melon Patch and were very happy with both the meals and friendly service. Our main dishes of open face roast beef sandwich and meatloaf were delicious Southern comfort foods. Our side dishes and the rolls and corn muffins were superb as well. Marvelous food and staff make this a delightful place to eat.

Came to get chicken livers… They were out. Fried steak and gravy, Mac cheese, squash casserole were great though!

I stopped here after a day of tromping around the battlefield. I based my decision to visit the Melon Patch after reading a favorable Unilocal review. The first thing that struck me was how friendly the staff was to me and each other. The place really seemed like one big happy family! My server was very cordial and efficient. I ordered the meatloaf which was excellent and it was served piping hot which is a major pet peeve of mine. For good old down– home southern cooking, the Melon Patch is hard to beat!
