I’ve lived around the corner from Spike’s Bottle Shop my whole life. Since Kevin and his family have taken it over, it has become a Beer Enthusiasts dream. From the most popular domestic beer brand to some of the more rare and intriguing brews available, you can find it here.

Your life will never be the same again if you walk through these doors. It is hallowed ground with an amazing selection of craft beer. Amazing really isn’t even a suitable word. I’m pretty sure if God was going to start a bottle shop focused on providing the best craft beer imaginable, the friendliest service, the deepest level of beer expertise, all served up with absolutely NO snooty beer snob attitude, he would put it in Kevin’s hands. Well, thank God that Chico has Kevin and Kevin runs Spike’s. If you are looking for craft beer in Chico, do NOT bother with any other liquor stores… you’re wasting your time. However, if you are looking for hot dog buns, then you’ll be wasting your time at Spike’s!

Hands down the best. I have a kegerator and Kevin always bends over backwards to make sure I always have a great keg of some pretty hard to source beers. The bottle selection is massive, and if you are in to Goses/​sours/​lambics, this is the best selection I’ve ever seen. Freshness is maintained meticulously. Great selection of ancillary sundries like deodorant and bread products.

Everyone knows that Spike’s is world renowned for their incredible selection of Hot Dog Buns. I’ve never understood why they don’t sell actual weenies but the selection of buns is beyond compare. What many people don’t realize is that Spike’s also has a massive craft beer selection, which almost overshadows the bun selection. Seriously, there may not be a store in the country with more varieties of beer than Spike’s. Last I heard I think they were approaching 2,000 different varieties, which is insane (especially considering the relatively short shelf life of many beers). This isn’t a liquor store to run in and out of quickly, because the selection is so overwhelming that you’ll want to spend some time browsing. You’ll have a couple great selections in your hand, then come across something insane that you’ve only heard about but never tried. Making an educated choice on what to buy can be tricky, but the owner Kevin will answer just about any question you have and seems to have tried many of these. No question that this is the best store in Chico, but is there even a better store anywhere?

If you are looking for that extra special beer, spikes is the place. Almost 2000 different beers, many that can only be found here. I’ve gone to Sacramento and been unable to find liquor stores with the knowledge of Kevin the owner and the inventory that he keeps. Beer is fresh which is important for many beers. Kevin bends over backwards to get what his customers want!

Best bottle shop period no need to go anywhere else spikes has the best selection of beer and a good selection of hard liquor they also have a variety of hot dog buns the owner Kevin is very knowledgeable about beer and whiskey and scotch and if you’re looking for the best bloody Mary mix try the preservations brand mix hands down the best

Love my some spikes bottle shop. They keep chico supplied with the best brew selection in town. Kevin knows what he’s doing too, super cool dude and expanding to social media, gotta love me some spikes

Okay all I have to say is if your looking for craft beer and you can’t find it at Safeway, Grocery Outlet, Trader Joe’s, and BevMo then it’s going to be at Spike’s Bottle Shop! Hands down has the best selection of beers in Chico! Also the owner Kevin is also an avid and knowledgeable fan of the BEER which is always a plus in my opinion! Highly recommend this great spot! :)

This is probably the best bottle shop in town. Kevin is very knowledgeable and gives great suggestions based on your taste preferences. He has a great selection of beer. But he also has a great bourbon and whiskey selection. This is where I get my stuff. He knows his product.

Best microbrew selection in town. Prices are good. Can be a little disorganized and overwhelming with the amount of beer to choose from. Staff are friendly and helpful.

I have never been one to buy a lot of beer in bottles, because I am a draft guy first and formost, but Kevin and Spikes have definitely changed my view. Love the selection of 22s especially! You know when a place takes pride in their service and it shows throughout the store. A craft beer mecca right here in Chico!

Not only the best beer selection in Chico, but the largest refrigerated beer as well (who really wants a warm beer?). Great staff who are all very friendly and knowledgeable. Always strives to be the first to carry new beers, seasonals, and special releases.

Spikes is easily what I consider the heart of Chico’s craft beer ever growing community. Not only do they have an awesome bottle selection but Kevin who runs the joint will do everything he can to get you what you want if they don’t have it on hand. Do not go there in search of hot dog buns, go there in search of friendship and great beer
