Sultans bistro is one of my favorite places! The spanakopita is so yummy! Sultan is always so nice to my boyfriend and I and talks with us about school, soccer, ext… it’s a small place ran by him so don’t expect the service you would get at a highly employed restaurant ! If you want some tasty Mediterranean food sultans is the place to go!

This place f*ckin blows! I grew up in this town and have been coming here for years. It USED to be delicious when the previous owner ran it. Ever since the new owner took over years ago it has progressively gone downhill. I have revisited it a few times(partly because it’s the only Greek place in town) and each time it keeps getting worse… this time is for sure the LAST time we will ever eat here! The owner… hardly friendly… said a total of 5 words to us, never made eye contact, was wearing the same grubby-ass shirt he always wears and looks just generally unhappy with life. On the menu board he is using the pictures of the original owners food and serving a pitiful excuse for Greek food. For example… the chicken and rice plate, looks delicious in the picture(and it used to be) came out and was maybe a 3 – 4 oz piece of chicken with some Greek spice on it, plain basmati rice, a packaged lettuce mix with added onions and a bland Greek yogurt dressing. That’s it! No Greek olives, no pickle, plain as plain could be. The fu*ker is so cheap he puts 1 black olive(not Greek) on the hummus plate and you can tell the hummus has barely if any tahini in it… very bland. We ordered our daughter a grilled cheese pita and it was literally a pita folded in half with 2 or 3 slices of that Kraft plasti-cheese crap. Not even melted. WTF? And the menu said it was supposed have chicken on it but there was no chicken. What a cheap lazy fu*k! He has been cheapening up his food since he took the place over and I CANNOT believe he is still in business. If we get another Greek place that does it right I would give him 3 months and he’d be out of business. The overall atmosphere is what it always has been, dark, gloomy and un-inviting(worth it if the food is legit) but now it’s worse because the only people we saw in the building were there for ice cream next door. Hopefully he reads these reviews and gets with the fu*ckin’ program.

The owner is local and had a deep heart for his community! He is wonderful and I loved my visit here! The food was fresh and it was very clean. Definitely coming back and probably become a regular!

His service is amazing and the food is always fresh. The food is probably some of the freshest in Chico. The customer service could not be better either. When going there, you aren’t just getting a great meal but a wonderful conversation with a person who has experienced so much. I love it there and when I say this is my favorite place to eat and relax, I mean it.

I came here with a good friend one day for lunch and was so pleasantly surprised. I ordered the lamb gyro, Athens style, and it was unbelievable. Everything was beautifully fresh, the pita soft and warm, the meat perfectly seasoned. The flavors balanced and complemented each other so well! We got the appetizer sampler, which had dolmas, hummus, green salad, spanakopita, and baba ghanouj. This is also exceptional. To top it off the owner was incredibly nice. I’m not sure what other Unilocalers are talking about. He talked to us through out the meal and gave us amazing service. The food came out promptly. I hope this place stays around, because it’s the best me Mediterranean food in Chico.

I mispronounced gyros cause it was my first ever time trying Mediterranean food and he got really rude though I Apologized. So I bought one and his whole attitude just made the meal bad. Never again!

I have to admit, after reading all the reviews for this place, my friend and I walked in with very low expectations and were constantly waiting for our experience to turn sour. That wasn’t the case. It wasn’t the best, but it certainly wasn’t the worst. To begin, we walked in and were a little confused about how the whole process worked. There wasn’t much to direct new customers. If you’ve ever been in the building, you’ll understand why this might have been confusing. Did we sit? Did we wait to be seated? Did we order then sit? The latter turned out to be the answer. We walked up to the counter and the man working(I assume the owner) greeted us pleasantly enough. After looking at the menu, we both ordered. Unfortunately, he was out of beef for my original choice(beef kebab), but he had chicken, so I got that, and a Coke, which came in a can. Prices were perfectly reasonable. Next, we sat down while we waited for our food. It was a little dark in our booth as the light fixture was being blocked by the high bench back. This was lunchtime(albeit on a Tuesday) and there was only one other group there. About half the choices on the soda fountain/machine were marked as «Out of Order». I’m not sure how long we sat, but he had timed the cooking so our orders were called out at the same time, which was nice. We had to go pick up our food from the counter. Now, finally, the real test. The chicken kebab came with a Mediterranean salad and rice. Much to my relief, everything was delicious and definitely not what had been described on Unilocal. The chicken was evenly and perfectly cooked, the salad had just the right amount of dressing and everything in it was fresh. I do see how other Unilocalers thought the rice was bland. If I had made the rice at home, I maybe would have added some butter, but it didn’t take anything away from the dish as a whole. I’ll definitely be going back!

Bland TASTELESS, slightly RANCID food, RUDE service, we will never go again! There was only one guy working, so after we ordered, he told the 2 gals behind us they would have to wait 15 minutes before he could take their order.(we were the only people there) They left– I wish we had too. The soda machine was broken, so only ice tea was available, and it tasted like tea flavored water. The food was so mediocre; and the WORSTFALAFEL I have EVER tried. i say tried, because it was completely green inside– hard as a rock and tasted really weird. I would not call it a falafel, because it was not crunchy; it was chewy and hard. I only ate one tiny bite and I’m glad, because by the time i got home, I was feeling a bit sick to my stomach from the rest of the Mediterranean platter. I am guessing from the tiny christmas tree(it’s september) in the restaurant, they don’t spend a lot of time putting things away. or cleaning. If you value your money and stomach health, avoid this place!

I like eating at Sulton’s Bistro. The place is always clean and there is nice middle eastern music playing in the background. The food is good and the owner who is from another culture is actually very nice. The only negative comment from me is that they put garlic in their food and I am not a fan of garlic specially at lunch time. Unlike a couple of other comments I read my salad has always been fresh. They can improve the size of their salad I guess. Other than that you got to give them a try.

I got the lamb pita gyro and it was really good. Really! Lots of great flavors make for an excellent lunch. The owner is a kick to talk to and genuinely caring. I have owned 5 restaurants and consider this a diamond in the rough

Had an awful experience here. The man who worked here was very nice and friendly, but my meal did not look as pictured. I ordered the grilled chicken which came with a side salad and rice. The chicken was good, but there were only two VERY tiny pieces. Salad was nothing special, and the rice was bland. My friend ordered a gyro that I tried, and it also was mediocre. To top it all off, my meal was almost $ 12, when I probably only received $ 4 worth of food. Very disappointing, as middle eastern cuisine can be very delicious.

This place used to be great, however during the past 5 years it has slowly declined. Food is over priced and the portions have significantly diminished. The kitchen and dinning area is also unsanitary. Very unfortunate.

Gyros are amazing and the owner is so sweet and so gracious when you eat his food! It’s like eating a a real Greek persons house, he just wants you to eat and enjoy his food(that he home makes himself) I think I’ll make this a weekly stop!

I was going to finally try Petra’s today but they’re closed, so sad. I really wanted something with felafel in it and I knew Sultan’s Bistro existed but I had yet to try it as well. So, I did. Instead of eating there I got it to go so for all I know this review may change after I eat sitting there. I had to take care of an issue with a bank around the corner so I ordered the felafel gyro and a piece of baklava. By the time I got back it was fresh, ready to go. It’s good. Very good. But it’s missing something. In my hometown we have Small World and what fills that gap is a specialty hot sauce of theirs. I have a feeling that is what I’m missing. Nothing was provided to me beyond the gyro itself instead a container so maybe you get a bottle when you eat there? We shall see.

As others reviewers have stated, this place has really gone downhill. I believe the place was sold to a different owner who obviously no longer cares about the quality of the food. I feel bad giving it a one star review, since this place used to be so good. However, the most recent meal my girlfriend and I had there was terrible. The meat was extremely dry and there was very little of it on the plate. I ordered the beef/lamb platter and there was only a couple dry pieces of meat on the plate. The rice tasted like it was out of a box and the falafel tasted strange. Like it was not cooked properly. My girlfriend only at a few bites of her chicken gyro platter and pushed it aside. She said it was bland, dry and just didn’t taste right. The pictures behind the counter must be from a past incarnation of this establishment, as the plates definitely no longer look that way at all. At this point, I’m not sure if I would try it again. Unless it changes ownership or they return to the quality of food that was once served here.

I will never go there again. #never. Sad, we loved eating here. I ordered the chicken gyro platter, the hummus was watered down and moldy smelling, plain disgusting. The chicken was flavorless, and very pink inside. I ate one bite, I hope I don’t get sick. The rice was dry, without flavor, and had hard grains of rice inside. The pita was hard. The platter was supposed to come with a falafel, and they substituted it with a dolma. When I asked if the hummus was old, the owner started arguing that the hummus was good. Husband ordered a chicken gyro and was also sadly disappointed. The fries were decrepit looking, and soggy with oil. Sadly we spent way too much money for really bad food.

I am SO very disappointed in this restaurant now. My meal today was INEDIBLE! I had loved this place for many years, but something has gone VERY wrong recently. The food is NOT the same as it used to be. I ordered the beef & lamb gyro as I always do, and added a small Greek salad. Gyro– the pita was hard, not soft at all & hard to fold around it’s contents. The meat was ok, but most of the rest of it was inedible! Some of the lettuce was brown on the edges & some parts were mushy.(rotten) The cabbage was ok, the cucumbers were ok. But the tomatoes had brown spots on the skin & were SO mushy the skins were peeling off!!!(ROTTEN) Who cuts up produce like that & puts it into food you serve to paying customers??? That produce was most definitely rotten! Gross. After finding all that in my gyro, I had been so disgusted I picked apart my salad very cautiously before I ate any & found more. The whole meal was now trash bound. $ 15 + tip for my takeout meal(I used to like this place a lot, so I tipped for takeout.) What a waste of my money, and such a disappointment. I’m very sad to see the place go so low.

We came in middle of the afternoon. The guy behind the register was cashing out for some reason, and asked us to wait. That wasn’t really a problem, and he finished counting in about 2 minutes, not too bad. We expected to give our order at this point but instead he ran over to Jon and Bön’s to talk with the girl working there and take money from the registers over there. He eventually comes back and takes our order; he is friendly enough. To our dismay, and as other customers have noted, he then began handling our food directly with his dirty money hands(two registers worth!). The food was tasty enough, but it was tainted by the image of money-hands all up in our business. Most likely won’t be going back, as this appears to be normal practice here, and the food is nothing special.
