Just got a breakfast burrito from here and it was really good and I didn’t have to wait long at all! Also got a horchata that the cook made there, himself, super good! Definitely will go here again when I’m craving really good and authentic Mexican food!

Breakfast burritos are a must have. I love their food in general. I love how they put lettuce in everything.

Wait is too long. Food was pretty good but there are other places you could go and get much better. The prices are really cheap if you don’t want to spend a lot.

Food is good but this wait sucks! It has been 30 min and still no food. This place used to be fast! I thought it was supposed to be modeled after a quick taco truck… Good thing it’s cheap.

Not a bad place if you want a cheap burrito. I like going here cause the price is right. I get the carne asada burrito. They put lettuce in the burrito which I don’t mind, but I know some have an issue with it. You order from a walk up window.

Just tried out some tacos here for the first time… Beans and rice are super bland and the meat was super old and overcooked. The meal overall just kinda had a bitter burnt oil taste. Most likely won’t be back. Oh and you could see employees sitting in the kitchen eating full meals and all around the place just looked dirty. Not a fan.

Thursdays special: Chicken Burrito… I should have known better by the filth encrusting the order window. Tasted about the same going down as coming back up a few hours later. The accompanying runs aren’t much fun either. Good thing I tossed the other half in the trash or I’d be in twice as much trouble & pain .

My FAVORITE place to get Mexican food in Chico! my family has been coming here since they were a food truck. Kinda a hidden gem :) Prices have always been amazing, though they seem to be going up a little bit(not too much, maybe a dollar or so) HUGE&DELICIOUS chimichangas! Amazing fish tacos(& other meat tacos too), I love their quesadillas, good nachos. I’ve never had something here I didn’t like, although I will say their tamales were a bit disappointing bc they were pretty small & kinda dry :/only got them once BUT other than that I love it here. They’re closed on Mondays(boooo) & the location is a little weird & inconvenient but I have yet to find a better chimichanga in Chico, especially for the price!(Prices have changed but it’s still under $ 5. I think $ 4.50-$ 4.75?) the shredded chicken is really good but a bit spicy so maybe get something else if you don’t love spice. My favorite chimichanga is the pork! The steak is good too but a little harder to cut/eat bc it falls out. Seriously, just get the pork! I just wish they would serve in something other than styrofoam bc sometimes the food starts to melt it :/but that’s my only«complaint»!

Long review but I want to get the points across to be clear of what happened. I ordered a chimichanga and asked for a mix of chicken and carne asada, a half and half mix. After paying I realized the lady charged me $ 2 extra and when I asked her about it she said it was because of the two different meats. I commented how it would have been nice for her to mention that before just charging me and that she should let a customer know something costs extra, especially when it’s that much extra. She told me «Well you didn’t ask so…» I replied again, «Yea it’s polite for YOU to mention something costs extra.» She then told me «Yea well maybe you should ask next time.» A few minutes later, when my food was ready at the window, I asked her«So just to be clear, did you put double the meat in here? Is that what the $ 2 extra charge was for?» She said«No it’s the normal amount of meat we just had to put two different kinds in so we charge extra for giving two kinds of meat.»(Mind you she’s giving me attitude the entire time) I was kind of irritated at this point and asked for my money back and she told me «No we already made your food.» I said«Yea well I don’t want it anymore.» She told me «If we take it back it’s just going to get thrown in the trash. You’re making too big of a deal over getting charged extra and if we take that back were going to be losing money.» I told her she’s losing a customer instead, which is more money than a single meal, and that I’d be giving a bad Unilocal review. She simply said«Ok» and walked away.(Clearly not someone who cares about the business.) I was still waiting with my girlfriend to get her order and I figured I’d at least ask for the extra meat that I paid for on the side. I asked the lady first, «So if I ordered a chicken chimichanga and then order extra meat of any kind it would be $ 2 extra is that correct?» She said .“Yes.” So then I said, «Okay, so seeing as how I paid the $ 2 extra, and you only gave me the normal amount of meat, I’d like to get the extra meat that I paid for.» She then snapped at me and kept saying they had to put a half and half mix of meat so it was the $ 2 charge and if I’d only have chose one meat then I could have had another extra meat for the $ 2 but since I chose two meats I got charged extra for the normal amount of meat. Apparently she failed to understand that 1 scoop of chicken and 1 scoop of carne asada is the same thing as half a scoop of chicken, half a scoop of carne asada, and then another half and half scoop. The order shouldn’t matter if it’s the EXACT same amount of meat.(Keep in mind I wasn’t initially asking for 4 half and half scoops… that would just be very odd, confusing, and unnecessary. It was only AFTER the fact of being charged for it and figuring I should get what I paid for.) Anyway, she was being pretty rude from the very first time I even asked about the extra charge and she was still flipping out about it, then she finally said! In a very condescending voice, «You want your money back so we can throw away your food?» I said, «Yes.» She gave me my money angrily and threw my food in the garbage(which I actually felt bad about having wasted) I guess them losing money over wasted food was better than giving me the extra meat that I paid for? Odd…

This is one of my favorite spots in Chico. I love the pork chimichanga. The price is exceptional. I wish this location was on the north side of town because I would go even more

I’ve been coming to Tacos Cortez since it was in a trailer on nord ave in the 80’s, and it’s still amazing. Awesome mexican food, great variety, friendly staff and possibly the same prices as when I was a kid. Lol jk but it’s cheap! Love this place!

Best breakfast burrito around! I swear it’s the cure for hangovers. Anyone who knows me, knows I’m picky about my Mexican food! They’re street tacos are as close to home as I can find around here!

Their food is really tasty. I like that they serve authentic food. The owner is really nice, some of the other staff are on the rude side. But all in all good food.

I stopped by this place for a breakfast burrito and was really impressed. It featured a terrific ratio of ingredients, great salsa, and was a nice size for the price. I will definitely visit Tacos Cortez again for one of these; even if it not in the morning. :D

Their breakfast burritos are fantastic! They have potatoes, plenty of cheese, eggs, salsa and your choice of ham, chorizo, bacon or sausage. The chorizo isn’t greasy at all and is very good! The bacon is very crispy and they aren’t stingy with any of the meat! The ham is in chunks and has good flavor. I haven’t tried the sausage yet. They are HUGE, served all day and are only $ 4.25 Their red salsa is AMAZING! Green salsa comes on the breakfast burritos, but I get red instead. It’s got a garlic flavor and just a little heat… I could seriously drink the stuff! In fact, they will let you buy 16 oz for only $ 3! I have a mason jar full on the fridge as I type! I highly recommend calling in your order before going. It’s pretty busy on the weekends and since there’s only a few tables of outdoor seating, it gets pretty packed. Also, they’re menudo is pretty good! Granted, it’s the only place I’ve had menudo from but had to try it. The first time I was waiting for my burritos, LITERALLYEVERY person left with a pot of it! They all said it’s one of the best they’ve had! One man said they sell out pretty fast though!

First off, this place is not healthy, but it is tasty. Well SOME items are good, others are down right gross. We usually get the cheese enchilada dinner — amazing! Simple with great sauce. Also the flour tostadas, sometimes with carnitas, but usually vegetarian. The shells are deep fried and can be oily. We have friends who like a number of other items also. The beef and chicken are NOT recommended on anything. When you read the reviews(or try in person) you’ll see that most of the bad reviews are related to the meat. They also have AMAZING salsa, especially the red. Ask for extra. The refried beans are not low calorie(think lots of lard), but taste good. This place is not clean and tables out front are also dirty. Get it to go.

The only great thing about this place is its prices. I used to come here all the time visiting from the bay area. I called for pick up and the lady couldn’t understand me at all. Its usually a guy there whose really nice and gets your order right. I should have checked my food before i even got back on the freeway. I ordered a chicken enchilada dinner plate and the enchiladas was literally a tortilla folded in half with a strip of chicken in it. It was also dry with no sauce at all. The melted cheese on top was like rubber! We also ordered a beef chimichanga with no beans, light on rice and EXTRA meat even with paying for extra. At least they got the no beans part correct, but there was so much extra rice and barely any beef. The shrimp taco was the only reasonable item we ordered. It tasted good but was just so sloppily made. Overall my experience with this restaurant is done. I don’t know who the chef was that day but if they aren’t going to do the job right why work there?

Tacos Cortez has potential and seems to be doing well for being a hole in the wall. Literally… it is a hole in the wall just so you know. I see this place as a used to be wagon that decided to have a taco hole in the wall rather than a taco truck. I don’t judge, whatever works for them ya know. Unfortunately for this business I have had the BEST taco wagon that is located in Durham, so my standards for hole in the walls and wagons are high. They did not stand much of a chance to begin with(with me anyways). I wanted to give it an opportunity to show me wrong and I was not pleased Now, I have read in the reviews on here to not order the burritos… sadly I did not read these reviews until after I ordered a chicken burrito. The rest of my group ordered the same thing as me as well… OOPS! I shoulda Unilocaled it beforehand. i was hopeful that possibly Unilocal reviewers were mistaken and the burrito would blow my mind! Sadly to say… you reviewers were on point. The Burrito was probably one of the greasiest things I have ever had. On top of that my brother and I both bit into something that was strangely hard… in our burrito… so we spit it out quite immediately. I feel bad, I really wanted to like this place. If I do end up coming back here, I will definitely avoid the burritos. Sorry Tacos Cortez, but I have high standarditos for my burritos. i hope that whoever else comes here has a better experience. Enjoy!
