DONOTLIVEINUNIVERSITYVILLAGE! This place is a dump and NOT worth what you pay for ATALLLLLL. So many rules and restrictions and bad management. The RAs are not helpful. The contract you’re locked into is impossible to get out of. Live off campus honestly you will not even meet any people if you choose to live here. Take it from me, a freshman that’s leaving, that this place truly sucks. You get no living room and live so far from campus. You pay $ 900 a month and $ 1000 the first month of every semester. Save your money, go on craigslist and find roommates, but whatever you do, steer clear of the dorms. They charge you for every little thing when you move out. They are SOGREEDY. You can’t even tell what they spend the money they steal from you on. This place is so out dated and everything sucks and breaks.

University Village is actually a great place. The RA’s are great, the people I live with are great, and so is the community around me. If you’re anything like me you probably came to this page as soon as you found out you were living here, and were worried for months after reading all of these reviews. It turns out that UV is actually not half bad. There are a few things that could be changed, however. The carpets look like they have never been cleaned, so my mom and I took the time out of our days to clean the one in my room with a carpet cleaner. Altogether it took about two hours and was completely worth it because you can actually walk without getting your feet dirty. The bathrooms get mold easily, but a simple mold remover and sponge simply fixed that right up. Anything that breaks get fixed about 24 hours after calling maintenance which is better than never, but if your light goes out then you’re stuck in the dark for quite a while. Other than that, University Village is a great place to live and I do not regret living here in the slightest.

After living in this«dorm» for two semesters, I am excited to finally leave. I was stuck with five random roommates. Your roommate situation partially decides what type of year you’ll have. My year was a roller coaster due to some of my roommates breaking into my room, stealing from me, and maintaining a hostile environment. This isn’t a substitute for dorm living because most people keep to themselves. The kitchen cabinets, furniture, and locks on the doors are easily breakable. No dish washer. No garbage disposal. You’re expected to file a work order form to fix anything that breaks or you will be fined when you move out. If you don’t clean up your messy kitchens before leaving for break, you will be fined. I found myself filing work order forms every other month because everything in the rooms breaks so easily from normal wear and tear. The bathrooms are poorly ventilated and are tend to grow mold easy. The old carpet in the rooms is cheap and stained. The lighting in the rooms is very dim, I had to go and buy an extra lamp or go to the library on campus to study. Nord Ave is a very busy, dangerous street. There are no cross walks in front of UV, when there should be due to the constant traffic. The sound of police sirens woke me up at least once or twice a week. There is a loud train that comes through chico about every other hour or so, which can be felt and heard at UV. The worst part of UV are the RA’s. They condescendingly talk down to freshman while they’re on their patrols. They woke me up at 2am, on a school night, to tell me that my paper Halloween skeleton decoration on my sliding glass door was a fire hazard. From what I’ve experienced, RA’s are only there for the free rent and to babysit/report drunk students. I pay $ 1100/month now. My rent next year will be about 1⁄3 the cost with less rules, more space, a safer location and a lot closer to campus.

I’m shocked that I’m the first to ever review this dump. Yes … I said DUMP! We moved our daughter into UV at the beginning of her Junior year. This place looks great on-line and when we went to visit for«Choose Chico» weekend, the staff made sure to show us one of the few decently kept apartments. First of all it’s WAY to expensive for what you end up with. We’re talking more than it costs to have a «real» two bedroom apartment with a living room and no roommates. Yes the rooms are bigger than your average apartment but that’s pretty much where it stops. Bathroom was disgusting. Black mold and chipped porcelain, rotten caulking and stained and pealing linoleum. Light took a good 60+ seconds to come on after flicking the switch. Sink area was just as bad. And the light over the sink never worked right. Kitchen hasn’t been updated since the 70’s. However it was large with plenty of cabinet space, counter space and storage. The bedrooms were very large but the furnishings were old and beaten up. The desk chair was broken, her roommates light was bent and didn’t work, there were stains on the carpet and there was a weird«old» smell. The RA for my daughters area was horrible. They never engaged the students, my daughter was never encouraged to attend any of the events that were promoted on the website but that was probably because none of those«events» happened. Smoking is not allowed in the rooms or on the patio however it was a huge issue and no one really did anything about it. I flipped out when the door to the apartment directly downstairs from my daughters was open and I saw a plastic bag over the smoke detector and the student smoking inside. Needless to say this kid finally moved out and the original RA was removed halfway through the year. There was a pool right out front of the apartment but it was never open. Students were forced to use the main pool in another building. This too was not mentioned on the website. UV is a little ways away from campus but not too far. However it is right by the train tracks and the train is very noisy and makes sleeping almost impossible. My daughter was forced to sleep with her window closed(due to smoke as well) because the noise was just to much. On line it shows a thriving, happy, lively complex. In reality, this place is a ghost town. Every time we’d visit we wouldn’t see anyone. Doors were all closed, no one was out engaging with each other nothing. For students coming here and not knowing anyone, living here makes it hard to meet new people. You’d think that a bunch of college kids living on their own would have music playing, doors open, laughing, and just enjoying having mom and dad away. But no, this place is silent. For me to ever recommend this UV to anyone, they will have to really step up their game. Especially at the price these folks are charging. Our daughter moved out today and will be moving into a 4 bedroom apartment that’s 10x’s better for less than ¼th the cost. No brainer here.
