This is a nice doughnut shop. Employees are very friendly and they always have customers there. The doughnuts are great. I’ve finally found me a place to eat and get doughnuts. I would highly recommend this place.

Personally, I judge donut shops by their variation on the long john/bismarck, or whatever they call their long donuts with white cream filling. Crispie Crème did not disappoint, as I tried all three variations(which I had to dance off later that night). The help is also very welcoming, as is the open seating area, which is still in the 50s-60s style of formica countertop with stools. A recommended stop whenever you find yourself in Chillicothe.(And yes, locals do come in to chime their opinions on all kinds of things, but as with most smaller towns, the soft-spoken, generous folks tend to outnumber them.)

Nothing speaks of my hometown like the comfort doughnuts of Crispie Crème(1929). Upon first stepping into this fine establishment you’ll feel yourself in a time warp. There are two displays of pastries. Quaint, short counter seating is usually complete with elderly townsfolk chatting over hot coffee. Order the Pecan Roll(Dad’s favorite), the Blueberry Cake(Mom’s favorite), or go with a plain Long John(a yeast doughnut that is cream filled– and my personal favorite). Sit at that counter and talk to the gentleman with the Clary Trucking hat. Sip that coffee or milk and take a bite. Know that everything will be okay.

Their pumpkin donut(unfortunately only available in the fall) is the best donut I have ever had. No joke. The other donuts are great as well.

Driving home from West Virginia to Indiana, I needed to get out of the car and I needed coffee. I had seen this cute place on my drive out and searched it out to stop here. I walked in and saw the short counter with stools all around. As the bell rang noting the open door, the seven old men sitting at the counter with their coffee looked up to see who it was. They all noted quickly it was no one they knew so they went back to flirting with the waitress and receiving refills. The waitress got me a coffee and then grabbed me the glazed donut I ordered. The coffee was weak, and I was a little disappointed with that. But then I bit into the best donut I have ever had in my life. It was one of those where I expected a run of the mill Dunkin Donuts taste, so it surprised me when this donut was so much better. I covered my mouth with my hand and said, «Oh. My. God.» Who cares if people thought I was crazy. This was a life moment. I ordered another donut and then took two to go to share the love with my family. I got two refills on my coffee and then ordered a large coffee to go. My total was $ 5.50 for four donuts and essentially three coffees. Don’t miss this gem if you’re in the area! The glass display case full of donuts will call to me in my dreams!

Yummy! Family owned since 1929, it should be noted that the Crispie Crème is not«Krispy Kreme» which was founded in 1937. Our Chillicothe CC is older and in my opinion much better! The donuts are amazing, coffee is good and plentiful. The folks that work behind the counter are friendly and welcoming. No matter what time of day or night you go, there will be Crispie Crème regulars who are friendly and happy to see a new face. There are always a couple of newspapers floating around on the counter to read and share.
