A real gem in the country!!! Historic train station setting & fantastic BBQ six different kinds! The straight pulled pork is primo & Pepsi… yep, so much better than coke

Wonderfully restored Train Depot in Chillicothe, Missouri. We were on vacation tracing family history and ended the trip in Chillicothe. What a great find coming across this historical location. So happy to see business owners taking a interest in restoring and protecting America’s icons. The walls are decorated with pictures capturing the events during construction of the Railroads. There is a lounge in the building serving up any kind of cocktail you could imagine. The waitresses were friendly and helpful and we ordered Burnt Ends and Baby Backs. Now where we live Baby Backs are not very meaty and are somewhat small in comparison to Missouri Baby Backs. However delicious the small ones are… the larger ones are even more tasty. We finished our meals and begrudgingly left as it felt like we were leaving home. Thank you Wabash BBQ and Chillicothe for a great meal and beautiful memories

Driving US36 back to Kansas City I remembered that Wabash bbq had a location in Chillicothe, as well as the one I had been to in Excelsior Springs several times. Called ahead and had just enogh time to make it before they closed at 9pm. I had the rib tip plate with slaw and fries. A nice portion of tender meat. Slaw is above average if you like the creamy style. Just as good as they do it at the original location. They are also located in a former train station that is quite bigger than Ex. Springs location and not as oddly partitioned. The bar is big and wonderfully built, reminiscent of an other era. Check out the monument to sliced bread across the parking lot!

Had pulled pork sandwich(¼ pounder). It was more like 2⁄3 of a pound. Fries were seasoned well. Spicy and regular BBQ sauces were tasty… i preferred the spicy tho. Bun seemed out of place with the rest of the meal as it was humdrum and the rest was really good. Iced tea, unsweetened, with lemon on the side was what I expected. I would have given the food and service 4 stars, but there were flies in the building. The flies were an automatic demotion of one star. They do not gross me out too much as I work and eat outside often, but I expected better of an indoor eating establishment. I will try this place again to see if I caught them on a bad day.

Portions were gigantic. Prices were reasonable. The food was just okay though. We ordered the burnt ends, which I’m used to being smaller, fattier, delicious pieces of pork, but these chunks were a bit larger, chewier, and just meatier overall. Not bad, but just not what I was looking for. We ordered the baby back ribs which were somehow still gigantic. The flavor was good and the spicy BBQ sauce was also very good. Some of the other things we tried(brisket and chicken) were a little dry, however… doused in BBQ sauce it wasn’t half bad though. The people were friendly and the service was fast… but we were only one of three tables in there at the time. Seems like others have had some issues with service. We did not on this particular day. Is it the best BBQ I’ve ever had? No. Is it the worst? No. But if you find yourself passing through Chillicothe and have a hankering for some BBQ, it will give you a fix.

I really had high hopes for this place but it seems that David might be onto something with his review from 2011. My husband and a friend of ours stopped in for lunch on our way through town. We were told we could sit anywhere we liked, looking for a booth the only one NOT in front of
