I come here to get the fish whenever I’m in the area, probably 6 – 8 times a year. The lady behind the counter always remembers me and what I always order. Always friendly and the food is good. Sadly I learned that her husband had died a few months back. Hopefully the restaurant will stay open. The number of H Salt fish restaurants are shrinking all the time.

Stopped by H Salt for a quick dinner to go. After I placed my order I felt as though I was slightly overcharged. I added up the price of my meal, and discovered she charged 53 cents extra. She did not bother to give me a receipt either. Not that I really care about 53 cents, but I don’t like shady businesses that rip people off and take advantage. It makes you wonder if they do that all day long. After I confronted her she was apologetic and said she was looking at a previous amount. Highly unlikely. Will not return.

The spot in Covina that is close to home has changed. So we Unilocaled other locations. We drove to this place in Chino. It was empty. The lady at the counter was very nice and friendly. We ordered our food and conversed a bit. We spent about $ 30 getting our food and drinks. Don’t mind spending if it is worth it. If this place was anything like the Covina one, we were in for a treat. Well, unfortunately, it isn’t. The food came out 20 minutes later and was a greasy soggy mess. And it tasted like they haven’t changed their old in a week or two. Very unfortunate as we were both looking forward to that H-Salt deliciousness and the lady was so nice. Sorry :(

This is the worst food I have ever eaten and expensive I don’t advise eating there Bad service refuse to give you condiments and less you pay for them why would you order fish and not get vinegar?

I love this place. Friendly owners and the fish and oysters are tasty. Some of the best fish and chips I ever had. Even the tarter sauce is delicious, not too heavy but very flavorful. Considering everything is fired when ordered it’s very fresh and surprisingly not very oily. I will keep coming back as long as they are in business.

Greasy and nasty with no A/C. Just gross waiting and food just as greasy. Flush $ 15 down the toilet and save the drive

I’m a little nervous cause the kitchen doesn’t look super clean, but I am daring(I’ve survived food in Southeast Asia). Everything is cooked to order so that is a good sign. They only have bottled beverages –if you say you want water, owner will tell you to buy bottled water as they only have tap. No Coke or Pepsi, just RC cola and other soda flavors. I ordered the double catch which is 1 fish, 3 shrimp, 2 zucchini, and fries for $ 5.29. The portion is good, fish is not that greasy, cocktail sauce tastes exactly like ketchup. Food needs a bit more flavor. I’ve had better and am not likely to return.

I value customer service and they lack customer service skills, therefore they get 2-stars from me… BUT the fish was good.

Awesome fish and chips. The shrimp and oysters are great too. Breaded and fried to order while you wait. Love going here for some old school fish and chips. They aren’t very greasy at all either!

This was the first time here and it was pretty good. I’m planning a trip to London in July and I couldn’t wait to try the fish n chips so I came here! All I can say that it was delicious and the lady that took my order was very sweet!

This place is amazing! The batter is thin crisp and freshly fried. The fish is fluffy fresh and plentiful. Usually I get a mouthful of batter when I get fish n chips, but here I can actually get mouthful of fish! I like that the fish is cut into long triangular shapes… I eat them like pizza! We called in an order for the 10 pcs and it was only about $ 18! Came with 2 tartar sauce and 2 vinegar. They were also super nice because they had already closed but waited for us to pick up our food on a rainy night. Will be coming back cuz I’m chinese and like a good value, and this is an amazing value! I can afford to feed my bf!

This place is as good as it gets. Fresh fried batter fish. No fishy taste, no dripping oil out of the fish or fries. It is best to eat it here once is done. I brought it home court of times but the batter and fries gets a bit soggy. And the oil they use is clean cuz the batter is golden brown. U can get enough tarter sauce and ketchup here when u sit down to eat here. Will come back as often as I can.

Extremely nice owner talked to me while I waited. Food was good, French fries a little soggy but fine for what they are-fast food. The place was not heated, probably due to such light traffic during the holidays or just to save money. The owner was wearing a big heavy coat! I got lunch to go. I’ll be back again!

The same people have been running this place since I was a kid. This is a true mom and pop franchise. I like the owners here. They have always treated me well and provided tasty fish and chips. Try the fish and jumbo shrimp combo. It’s great!

*Currently eating hush puppies as I type this review* I’ve always been a fan of Fish and Chips. Usually, I’d get my fix at a Long John Silver’s, but sadly, there is none — literally NONE — anywhere near the area. I have come across this H. Salt Esquire continuous times now, telling myself I’m going to try this place out. I even heard the chain mentioned on Mad Men. Well as of tonight, I finally did. I have to say, it looks really dated on the inside and out — and while that may turn a lot of people off, I will have to say that I liked the old, hole-in-the-wall look, especially when I saw the cutest old lady working the counter. She was very polite and told me she’ll help me in a second while she packed up the other men’s orders. I checked the menu out and saw that the prices were super cheap — WHICHWASAWESOME. I ended up getting the 2 pc. combo, but of course, I had to try the hush puppies. I only get hush puppies when I go to LJS, but even theirs are alright — not the best. There was quite a wait, since more customers had started coming in right after my boyfriend and I ordered. Not a problem — I preferred my food freshly cooked anyway. Regarding the food: delicious and fresh! The chips, not too crazy about since it’s just normal frozen fries, but the fish was good! It wasn’t too greasy at all — I mean, it was greasy but of course what food isn’t when it’s deep fried? Regardless of what others were saying about it being comparable to other frozen fish filets, I saw in the kitchen that the cook was slicing up some fish… which means, the fish are sliced and battered and fried. so it’s all fresh. I found the batter to be just right, and I love that it is not super salty at all! BUTTHEHUSHPUPPIES. My goodness. Hands down, one of the best and is now my new favorite. It tastes GREAT and it was fried just right! I honestly would just come back here and get a load of these hush puppies. Overall, I like this place, definitely coming back, especially if I want a cheap, yummy, and filling meal!

This Place is as Good as any other Fish and Chips Restaurant. The Food is Good for the Price. It’s a Small place that will sit about 16 adults. Every time I come in I see 3 – 5 people waiting for there orders to take home. Call it in if You decide to take Your food home, it will save You time. I always Eat my Food in the Restaurant because it is Hot and Fresh.!!

I came upon this place by accident when I went to the a nearby store. It is a nondescript place. I didn’t think they still had H Salt anymore. I ordered the two piece fish with chips for under $ 5 to go. It was decent for what it was, fast food. The place appeared to be owned and run by a family. The place definitely could use a facelift but seeing how I was the only customer there the whole time I don’t think they are making a ton of money. I’d recommend coming here if you’re looking for fast food fish and chips.
