Wabi Sabi was full so we ended up here. Party of 18 with a bill over 600 dlls. That’s ok we can pay but I was very disappointed in the quality of meat they use. Never had a filet mignon that was so tough. The chicken was so over cooked and the food had way to much butter. Service was good and the cooks were friendly but In my opinion the food was just mediocre.

I love, love shabu shabu. I always wanted to try this place so I tried tonight. It was empty. That should have been a warning sign. I was starving and a little hesitant but we were already there and there are very limited places in chino hills/chino so I obliged. First there was a younger Hispanic female who served our veggies and meat. I asked for double ponzu instead of the peanut sauce. I can tell whether a place is good depending on their ponzu. It was the WORST ponzu ever. It basically tasted like WATERED down soy sauce water. The meat came out, I can tell they don’t slice their own meat here. The cut was thicker than any place I’ve ever been. The meat had«browning» on the outer slices. I reluctantly tried eating because I was STARVING. It was too thick, and was not tender at all. There was another Asian female server speaking in broken English. The only time they came to check on us was to clear some plates and ask, «is this coke?» Refilled it and dropped it off. They were not attentive at all and never came to check on us once. This was the first time I’ve had the WORST shabu shabu ever. I didn’t even finish my meal which surprised my boyfriend. I refuse to get full off of less than mediocre food. I’m surprised they’re even open for business at this rate. Take it from me. I’m a big time foodie, love all types of food. Not only do I expect great tasting food, I expect good service and good ambiance. This place lacked it all. Now I’m home, drinking lots of water because I literally had to use HALF a bottle of red soy sauce to help have some taste in the ponzu. Ponzu should have a zest and slight kick. If you don’t believe my review, I dare you to go there, waste your money and walk out absolutely dissatisfied. Not even going to try their teppan… I’d rather go down the street to wabi sabi. At least there, I know their ginger dipping sauce is good!

First visit to Shima. We have been addicted to sushi and average a weekly meal for 20 years straight. Received a message from a great sushi chef Supay that he now works at Shima. We dropped by for lunch to give it a try. The restaurant is tastefully decorated and has Teppan and Shobo. But we came for sushi and it didn’t disappoint. Fish was fresh and the selection of rolls substantial. The service was excelllant and Chef Supay gave us several tasty suggestions. Salmon was very good and so was the spicy tuna. Prices are average for the area but atmosphere and service coupled with excellent quality fish quickly made Shima a must visit again destination.

Large restaurant I ended up grabbing some sushi, overall the host and sushi chefs were nice and personable but I just wasn’t very satisfied with the sushi itself. I will come back to try the Shabu next time.

My boyfriend made our Valentine date reservation for 8 p.m. We were seated quick with an older couple to my right and to left of my boyfriend a family of four. We placed our order. The cook messed up with presentation the egg spun and broke on to plate. The little boy at our table had corn it came out of his mouth landed on mine & my boyfriends plate as the chief put wrong steak on my boyfriend plate. He had to cook another one. My boyfriend ended up with a stomach ache. Will I go again no once you’ve been to Sho Gun & Benihana you see big difference.

We ate at the sushi bar and loved our experience. Sushi was fresh and amazing. My favorite part was our sushi chef. He was friendly, nice, and made the best hand rolls!

Shima is a great place to go with your family. Nice clean environment, the price is fair compare with other teppanyaki like Benihana. Food quality is 10/10,especially the special fried rice, very buttery but not over greasy, it’s a must have!

I’ve been seeing this restaurant for 5 years and had no idea. This is my new Japanese go to. We loved the food and the staff went out of their way to make sure we were okay throughout the meal. Great job to whomever trained the employees

I have two reviews for this place — one positive & one negative. Great food. Fun environment watching the chef cooking front of you, great time with great people. Negative: I say at the sushi bar and ordered a meal off the menu, because I was with people that wanted sushi. All of their food came out and was eaten before my meal arrived, appetizers also came out a minute before my meal did. When my meal did arrive, I didn’t want to eat alone so I complained and they asked if I wanted to still keep my meal or not, which I thought was the wrong reply, so I have the ticket away and we left. If you order regular food at the sushi bar make sure you receive it before you order your sushi to get the timing right.

I was very satisfied with the food. I got the lunch combination(filet mignon and shrimp) as a takeout order. When I arrived there it was ready to go. The beef and shrimp were both perfectly cooked and well seasoned. I ordered the fried rice and the salad pairings with the meat and both were great. The biggest high mark for me(since I am a condiment queen) was the seafood sauce. It’s that creamy pinkish sauce you get at every teppanyaki restaurant… Well this one was perfect. I’ve been to my fair share of teppanyaki and I noticed how they always try to water down the sauce(grrrrrr)…not here. That’s seriously the only reason I’m writing this review… That sauce.(I do love my condiments…)

One of my favorite restaurants! The staff treats us like family; so kind and the managers are always coming around to ask how you are. The key is go during dinner for the buy one get one ½ off special. But remember you each have to buy drinks(not just water). Yeah, if you’ve been to reopen before the show might be boring to you but the chefs here are all so different that you can end up having conversations with them. The food is great! I’m always weary about restaurants that serve multiple group categories of food. But this place is different. Not only is their teppan good, but also their sushi. So basically they’re all around pros at popular Japanese cuisine. Come hungry because I trust you that you will more than likely be filled. And the great is that you get leftovers for the next day!

I’m almost a regular! My family has been coming here for a good 2 – 3 years? We’ve tried both the teppan and the shabu and we’ve never been disappointed. We always come here for the lunch menu. The portions are good in relation to the price! I recommend going for the Shima Lunch combos! My personal fave is the shima steak and shrimp. My mom and brother always get the steak and chicken combo, while my dad prefers the Filet and shrimp! My lil sis gets the kids steak and corn. The Chefs are always entertaining. They come in with the usual tricks: onion volcano, heart shaped fried rice or mickey fried rice, egg juggling tricks, fire play… its always a good time. Our food is always prepared exactly the way we ordered it. The service has been consistent. We’ve never had problems with service here. The place itself is clean and spacious. Every bit as good as Benihana, if not better PRICEWISE. We are almost always seated immediately and even on major holidays, we’ve never waited more than maybe 20 minutes. Shima is a hidden gem, but people are starting to find out about it, so I’d make a reservation just to be safe if you plan on eating here for any holidays like Mother’s day, Father’s day, V-day, etc.

I really enjoyed this restaurant. There are a couple of things I wasn’t too fond of. My boyfriend and I arrived around 8pm on Wednesday night and there was only one group there we were seated right a way which was refreshing, it was only 2 of us so we were seated with another group, which was fine. The waitress was great! She made sure our needs were taking care of. 4 stars is for the portion of the food that we received it was extra small. Also the card machine was not working so we were waiting an extra 30mins for them to keep swiping my card until finally my boyfriend just gave them his. Other than that you should try it if you’re in the area.

Wow! How did I not know about this place? Now a teppan restaurant is a teppan restaurant so what makes one better than the other. Obviously the food but for the most part their all pretty much of equal or similar quality. It’s the showmanship of the chief and the cleanliness of the overall restaurant in my humble opinion. It always bums me out when go into a restaurant and see a random bucket catching water from a roof leak but not this place. Now our chief pulled off a few tricks that I’ve never seen in my 50 years of existence and at least a 100 lifetime teppan house visits. You seen one volcano, you seen them all but have you seen a flaming tornado? This dude had some mad skills for a chief holed up in the City of Chino. The customer service is excellent here and they run a Monday thru Thursday special. My wife worked out the details so I’m not up to speed but I think it has to do with if you purchase 2 drinks and 2 dinners, one of the dinners if half off. All I know is the bill was less than I thought it would be. The place is clean with a nice atmosphere. Where this place also shines is it’s pretty big and set up nicely for a large group. I mean a large group of 40 of more if you wanted. Got a big group, check this place out ahead of time and see what I’m writing about here. The food quality was good but when have you ever really had bad teppan. You soak anything in butter and salt, it will taste good. Nice atmosphere, great food, awesome customer service and entertaining chiefs that equals 4 stars. I don’t just drop 5 stars review all willy nilly, so this 4 star review is a sign of approval from the Timster.

When my cstar said she found a restaurant that served Teppan, Shabu Shabu and Sushi I thought she was lying. Was it too good to be true? I told her not to play with my emotions. I can’t deal. Thinking she was busting a Pinocchio I turned to the only reliable source I’ve ever known… Unilocal. Woot. Woot. She wasnt lying. Yipppppeee. Left Anaheim Hills and headed torwards Chino. Twenty minute drive and we arrive. Please roll out the red carpet. Walked inside and this place is big. Lots of teppan tables, shabu dining all the way to the back of the restaurant and a small sushi bar. Its a pretty cool place. Im feeling the red and black colors, kind of like Benihanas. We choose to sit at the teppan table. My tummy is growling, actually more like Roaring(RAWR) so the waitress puts our order in for Scallops & shrimp combo and Shrimp, steak and chicken combo. We barely make it for lunch by seconds. Lunch prices by our chiny chin chin. More money in our pockets. Hollar. The Teppan Chef comes out and introduces himself and asks if it’s our first time. We say Yes. After we replied he becomes a mute. Crickets. Crickets. He did the whole eggs flying in the air, spatula throwing, volcano cho cho train but I think he must have taken some nyquil too, kind of like the stripper from The Venetian two nights before. Mr. Teppan Aka Wolfgang Sucks put us to sleep. Big fail for being unethusiastic and no interaction. As for the food, the miso soup was okay. The fried rice was a thumbs down. Can I get my $ 1.75 back for upgrading to fried instead of white. The fried rice tasted like soy sauce and black pepper –_– We were hoping the steak, chicken, shrimps and scallops would make up for the not so great food and the sleepy chef, but it didnt. Portions were like kids sizes, maybe since it was lunch portions but still. Sleepy chef got black pepper happy because thats the only thing our meal tasted like BLACKPEPPER. Twenty min drive and 1 hour lunch. 100 minutes of my life I will never get back. Very disappointed in the food. I had enough black pepper in my food to last a lifetime. Oh well, you win some and you lose some. Three stars

Got to say this is the worst 60 bucks ever. Went in with my family and sat at the sushi bar, our waitress was wonderful but the sushi chef was an a hole. Ordered: Ramen soup– no flavor what so ever, had to add salt soy sauce and hot sauce to make it taste well. Spicy tuna tempura roll– it was ok, it was over cooked a bit. Big Mac roll– it was over cooked Ramish roll — it was to small and I think I got ripped off. After all this ask for my check and went to the dumpling house next door.(thank god for that place it made my night so good.) I came in to shima because it was mention in one of our guy talk and got to say this is the last time I will come here. Their is a long wait time on the sushi because they have only one sushi chef.
