I have never been one to review healthcare providers, but I feel compelled to put this out there. I’m just hoping that this review pops up if someone happens to be researching online when placing someone in a home. My uncle was ill and expected to die within weeks. He entered Birch Patrick and it seemed OK as far as these types of places go. One strange thing is that there are a lot of patients sitting in the halllways, some not looking very happy. Well, they are a NORESTRAINT facility meaning that they don’t strap people down, they call for a doctor and sedate. Many of the patients are elderly or sick with cancer etc. and not functioning at 100% mental capacity. My uncle became agitated about something and they literally strapped him to a chair in the hallway until his legs were completely swollen and bruised. This happened in September 2014 and he passed away a few weeks later. Also, his cell phone and charger went missing after his death, meaning that they were most likely swiped by the staff. We have reached out to different agencies and they are now under investigation through Adult Health Services for patient abuse. The bottom line is to be as involved in possible if you have a sick relative, show up all the time, and ask a ton of questions.

My grandma was cared for here while in hospice. We always had family stay with her, and plenty of relatives visiting. Staff was always respectful of our time with her. The room my grandma was in has a sliding door(I think most of the rooms do), so it was nice having fresh air circulating through the room. The hallways are nice and wide, and the air is clean. The staff are busy caring for so many patients. But they really get to know each individual and do their best to make the individual feel comfortable and taken care of. There is also continuity of care, you see the same nurses and staff each day, which helps. I notice they really focus on individual needs. The best part. Is that it’s connected to sharp Chula Vista medical center. In case of emergency, the right people is there to help! … Or the patient can easily get wheeled down a hallway straight to the ED! I noticed one wing is for long term residents… While the other wing is more for short term stays, like for rehab or medications… I did my research, and this place has the highest ranking possible for rehab and long term centers… Their activities program is also great. This includes monthly field trips!
