In and out in 10 minutes. No frills. You need to mill around the lot until he’s done but it’s quick. $ 60 and no problems. He is courteous and fast. What else do you want?

Great smog station with good staff. Work really well in helping you through the process.

Very quick service and the guy was really friendly. Not much seating room but i dont think its needed with the speed they work. I recommen this to anyone needing a smog check!

Doesn’t matter Pass or Not they will take your money. Helpful? Not… Think twice before entering this business. They just lost my 3 car business forever.

Took my vehicle here because the DMV specified a «Star Certified» test site Only. I did not have an appointment, but I was quickly greeted by Amir, who was very professional and friendly. The smog test was very quick. The cost was $ 60.00. I will now continue to use this place for any future smog tests!
It is a small shop on Telegraph Canyon Road right before the 805 N freeway, connected to a gas station, next to the Telegraph Canyon shopping center/​strip mall.

Took my car here today to get a smog check and couldn’t be happier with my visit! Mufeed was kind, easy to talk to, and always professional. He quoted me for $ 60 and worked very quickly. Will definitely be coming back in the future and I would recommend this place to anyone who needs a smog check.

I went in today. The guy running the place was courteous and professional. There are a few chair and a tv inside the bay while you wait. It took less than 10 minutes. Test and certificate is $ 60. Price list is posted on the wall. I highly recommend this place.

I’m an all-​or-​nothing Unilocaler. If I’m going to reivew a place, it is because it is great, or awful; I don’t review run of the mill 3 star joints.
Reading the other reviews, I had reservations about going here. But the location was convenient for my 5:05PM decision to try to knock out my smog test today. If I got ANY bad feeling, I was going to go to the place on K St & Broadway — — - they closed at 6:00, so I had little time.
The guy was pretty informal and pulled my car into the bay before writing up the estimate. I was ready to demand my car back on the first sign of trouble… there was none.
As he was getting into the car — — and knowing that others complained about increase in fees — — I asked him what he charges; he quoted me $ 60. I asked «plus the 8 bucks for the certificate?» He said «No, that includes the certificate. I asked about retest fees in case of failure; free retest.
I don’t know what happened in the past, but the pricing is on the wall — $ 51.75 (plus the $ 8.25 for the certificate…$ 60.
He has a TV and a couple chairs INSIDE the shop. Most places wont let you in the bay («insurance reasons» — but they hate it when we watch them). I do extensive work on my cars and classics; so I am very comfortable in a workshop. If you’re in your Sunday dress; the waiting area is way too dirty. But he did my test in well under 10 minutes and I was done… pass and gone. I left Otay Ranch at 5:10 and was driving away from the place at 5:32PM. Amazing. He was polite and worked quickly. English is clearly not his first language and he does not take (waste) time explaining much about the process and how his computer communicates with the DMV, the visual inspections, the OBD testing, etc. He just does it.
Given that others complained, I have to assume that either this guy wasn’t working/​running the shop then. There was no monkey business, price changing, or rudeness. Highly recommended.

Lets see… I have been here about 4 times with 3 different vehicles in the past year. Every time I have passed smog with no problems. I never wait more than 5 mins before my vehicle starts to be tested.
The gentleman working there is friendly and fast. I’m not sure if he’s the owner, but I always see him there. It’s located in an Arco parking lot right off Telegraph and the 805.
There is a Von’s shopping center right behind it. There is also a AAA in the same lot that gives a $ 10 off discount coupon for the smog. Awesome!
The only bad thing that I have noticed is there is no shaded waiting area. You have to mill around outside. Other than that I have no issues. Maybe if I didn’t pass I might have an issue LOL!

Definitely would recommend this place. This is one of the few places that was open on a Sunday around my neighborhood, which was very helpful. When I arrived I was able to go right and get my test done was out of there in about 15 minutes. The gentleman that worked there was very nice and would definitely go back when I need another test.

I hope the owners have changed since the last time I visited.

I took in my Honda Civic and called beforehand that I have a coupon of $ 10 bucks off. He told me to come in, and I did.
He asked me to park the car in front for an inspection. But before the inspection he had a long lengthy conversation. It felt good at the time. He really buttered me up, said great things about me.
But when time came… he charged me 75 bucks AFTER the $ 10 coupon. Bear in mind… he had a sign of $ 51 bucks not including a discount. How on earth he charged me 30 bucks more for a Honda Civic is beyond me.
I felt like a mouse who felt for the cheese. Just shady business at the end of the day.

Nice and honest. In and out in about 10 minutes and paid less then what everyone else was quoting. Happy customer.

I have read past negative reviews here about failed tests and taking advantage of kids. I am not sure about these but I sent my 16 yo son here for a smog after seeing a discount online. I said to my son make sure this is what you pay. He left paying that amount. I don’t think there was an issue with being scammed!
In fact I have been here 3 times in 6 months. The last time I didn’t pass due to a having a dead battery for weeks.
He said drive it for a day and come back to reset computer. I did and it passed the next day. I was 10.00 for retest. I was satisfied with that as it’s time consuming for them. I felt comfortable with this place.
Keep in mind there is not a waiting room. I can say I feel he is a honest person here!

I got my car smog tested here recently and I was in and out in a very short period of time. The gentleman that works here is very polite and professional. I will return here again when it is time to getter done…

This year was the first year my 98 Civic failed smog. Since my car is a bit older, I have to get a smog every other year. I remember 2 years ago when I last needed a smog, I had called a few places to get an estimate. All I remember was coming here in 2010, passing and leaving pleased with the service.
This year, on the other hand, is a completely different story. I came back and Joe had charged me $ 90 for a failed smog. I was in complete shock because first of all, I’ve never failed smog. And secondly, you’re going to charge me $ 90 for a failed smog? When I inquired about that, Joe said, «Oh, you can come back and I won’t charge you $ 90. I will charge you $ 60 next time.» Hell-​to-​the-​effin-​NO.
I ended up needing to get my catalytic converter and spark plug with the wiring replaced at TK (off Broadway). While I was at my mechanic, I walked next door and asked the gentleman how much he would charge for a smog check. He told me he’d charge me $ 30 AND if I failed, bring my car back within 7 days and he will charge $ 13.50 for a re-​test.
OMG… I am never going back to Canyon. I’ll refer everyone to the other spot I went to. It’s not right that he charged that much for a failed test. Sucks to be me.

THIS PLACE IS A RIP OFF!!!
My son went their to get smog for his car and Joe took advantage of a young kid!!! I was quoted $ 71 on the phone and we he got their Joe gave my son estimate of $ 61.75 (too high but ok) $ 8.25 for certificate (ok). Car PASSED and now final bill has a $ 20 comminication fee (this is BS!)
I called on the phone today and was given $ 71 quote so I went to this place and addressed with Joe what happened. He apologized and was unable to give my son back the $ 20. Told us he was sorry and that he would give me credit for future service, now do you really think I want to do any further business with you Joe?
I asked him for the name of his Manager and now Joe has selective memory on the guys name and work schedule for the week so we can come back.
I ask the ladies working in the Arco and they say the Smog Center pays rent to the owner of the Arco. Not thinking I understand Spanish I hear them say Joe and Mufeed have been warned about overcharging people. Plus I am in the store with a lady who also understood Spanish and an attorney. She gave me her card and said she would be a witness to what was said.
This place is a RIP OFF AND I have reported to the BAR and the BBB!

Great and quick service. Owner/​attendant was nice and personable. Gave me price that I thought I had negotiated including a certificate, Before I came I asked what would increase my chances on passing. I got the advise I wanted. Too bad this station is not AAA approved cause it is in the same parking lot at AAA and the DMV station in it.
I found this place online after using the DMV office in AAA the day before. They did not even tell me about it when I was there and asked for a list of Test Only stations. Shame on AAA for sticking to their uppity standards of their «brand» and not using common sense to refer me to the closest station so I would not have to come back the NEXTday. AAA’s excuse is that they have strict standards and do not go for employees in T-​Shirts in car repair places. Really??? Like I care if my mechanic wears Calvin Klein or AAA underwear! And he wasn’t even a wearing a T-​Shirt! All I want is fair prices and quick service and the word CONVENIENCE comes to mind. This place had all three. Plus an owner who could carry on a decent conversation!
