This ace was great but they bailed out of Chula, and sorry but we can’t afford to waste 10.00 worth of gas on great food but there place in lemon grove is the size of my bedroom, I don’t like being elbow to elbow with the stranger ,

Tender ribs. Not dry at all! Great tasting sausages. Yummy BBQ sauce. We liked the coleslaw but the mac and cheese was on the bland side. The peach cobbler was good but consisted mostly of peach filling. Not much crust or biscuit, or whatever type of breading is in peach cobbler. My «Big Boy» sized pulled pork sandwich was pretty tiny. About the size of a small hamburger. I would expect a bit more for $ 9. The pork was very good though! We will probably come here again but we will stick to the ribs, sausage, and coleslaw. Maybe I’ll try the brisket.

The smell coming from Coops drew me in. My son had a birthday party at the Laser tag place next door to go to but we were early. I decided to check out Coops since we had some time to kill. Good thing I was hungry! Setup 3: Most places you walk in and walk up to the counter to order and then you sit. this place as soon as you step in the door you are at the counter, you order, you play, and then you go sit down and if you want a beer you have to go to the bar through the door in the back. kind of strange. Service 4: The server, hostess, cashier was very friendly and very helpful. Food 3: So you can order plates, sandwiches, and combos, I ordered the beef brisket with mac-n-cheese, baked beans, and cornbread. The Mac-n-cheese was labeled as «Their Famous» but I have to say I wasn’t really impressed. The corn bread was good but nothing special but the baked beans and the brisket were great and the amount of meat you get is bonkers! I ate till I was full, snacked on it again later, and then again the next day. it’s huge! After reading other reviews I think I need to go back and check a couple other things off my must try list. It’s a weird set up but it comes with good food and friendly service. peep it!

Coops is amazing! I am so happy I don’t have to drive too far to indulge in some delicious BBQ. While I have not yet experienced Texas/Southern BBQ and make an appropriate comparison, this is definitely one of the better BBQ establishments I’ve been to in SD. The service was really pleasant, nice and timely; I was surprised to receive our food somewhat quickly. I was with a group of 4 and we ordered the«knock out.» This was the best deal for all of us since we were able to order a total 6 meats for close to $ 30 dollars. I find this a great choice for those who have not been here before as to sample the offerings here and the portions for each of your choices are pretty good! Also, our meal came with cornbread and 2 sides. IMO, their cornbread isn’t anything out of the ordinary; pretty standard cornbread. The beans and rice was so flavorful! I was quite delighted and surprised with the chicken as I don’t really like BBQ chicken; the spices and the smoky flavor of the chicken was awesome. My personal favorite was the pulled pork and the brisket – FTW!!! My least favorite was the beef ribs; it wasn’t bad, I just would have liked it if the meat would fall out the bone more. There are paper towels on the table to wipe off your hands, 3 different BBQ sauces and Louisiana hot sauce. My favorite BBQ sauce was the spicy as the others weren’t that memorable to me. Although the flavor of the leaves in the sweet tea was good, I felt it was a bit TOO sweet for my taste so I ended up watering it down for a bit. Definitely coming back!

After reading the reviews, I had to try this place out. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. Maybe it was an off-night, but the food was cold and lacked the robust zesty BBQ flavor that is associated with Texas BBQ. I can forgive the low overhead dining experience with the paper plates and plastic utensils, but poor food safety I cannot. Perhaps the Lemon Grove location is better.

Coop does barbeque right. Every item I have tried here is cooked to absolute perfection. My favorite thing on the menu is rib tips. The meat is super flavorful and the texture is amazing — tender and a little sticky. The sweet potato pie is divine and the mac and cheese is perfection. I have never dined in, I just call in the order and pick up a few minutes later and Coop is almost always there overseeing quality and service. It’s great to see an owner who genuinely cares about his business. I am so happy they decided to open in my hood. I’ve converted my entire family from the other guy by the Sports Arena to Coop’s. It’s just better!

Coop’s is without a doubt the best barbecue in San Diego. I know that’s not really saying much, but I wouldn’t give them 4 stars if their food wasn’t delicious.

Came in for my friend’s birthday one night. I would give a solid 3.5 stars. I’m not a big BBQ fan and I’m never craving for BBQ but I cant find a place better than Firestone Grill in San Luis Obispo. The food here was good. Just average good. I would definitely come back though because customer service is excellent :) and the owner came out to greet us. My friend also got a free desert for his birthday and we got military discount bc my bf is in the military. We were a group of 6 and we were about to order individually until the lady in the front told us to get the big pack that came with 6 different meats, 2 sides, and 2 cornbreads. Boy, I’m glad we got that because it fed all of us and we were full! It was cheaper too! So if you’re coming in a large group, be sure to order that! I’ll come back again if I ever crave BBQ!

Had the pleasure of trying this place out and was so pleased with the result. Not a fancy place, you stand in line and order, then get your own soda and sit wherever. The beef ribs were outstanding. All the meat was on the ‘less saucy side’, which was perfect for me. Also tried the pulled pork and the turkey leg — all flavorful, moist and juicy. Best BBQ I have had in San Diego! Wow!

Finding good BBQ can be hard to come by sometimes… but with Coop’s around and other establishments, it’s good to know that we have it in our backyards. I stopped in on rib tip Tuesday for a pound of rib tips of course and a side of old fashion corn bread. $ 2. The rib tips came packed and piled in a small container. $ 9.99( ) The tips had a beautiful exterior bark, with a serious deep amber color, great texture, and with a well rounded smoke and elevated pork flavor acquired during the smoking process.( ) Fork tender was the name of the game with the tips inside. Seriously, the flavorful meat gently fell off the bones, and the tips had just enough fat to keep the meat moist, but not greasy.( ) I enjoyed these very much and even more, with their house BBQ sauce that delicately covered the meat with its slight sweetness and smoky flavor.( ) The corn bread was pretty good. It was a large piece with a nice brown outer crust.( ) The inside was a little dry, very typical for most corn breads, but the flavor was good.( ) Butter was served with the corn bread, but I ate the bread without it. There was only one server at the time I came, but I came after lunch and before dinner rush, so there were only a few customers on board. Tara was friendly and had a good sense of humor. She was cordial with me when asked questions regarding the smoking process, where I learned they use a blend of mesquite and hickory: flavors that came through well in the rib tips. Eat tips…

Nah, man… Me and my close buddy rolled in here a few days ago, and let me tell you, the excitement left my soul quickly. Had the Triple Threat(Pork Ribs, Hot Links, Brisket), first the ribs had a nice flavor but it was more like smoked fat, saucing them only helped slightly, more meat please. The brisket was like stew meat, great for senior citizens, but my teeth are strong, i’ll be alright. And man to the hot links, wow I was so excited, but these links had the consistency of boiled rubber bands, and were pure grease. I understand BBQ is not supposed to be fat free, but meat is nice too. I had high hopes for Coop’s, but right now I can’t sign off on this place. Maybe the crime index of the neighborhood isn’t high enough, in my experience the higher the number of shootings in the area surrounding a BBQ joint, the better the food. Just sayin, holler!

Hands down the only«BBQ» place in the South Bay. Nice, relaxed atmosphere with food to match. If you are within a few miles it is worth the drive. Meat was tender(all cuts) and had a nice hint of smokiness that was not overpowering. The sides complimented the food wonderfully and were seasoned just right. My only complaint would be the corn bread was a little dry, but I guess that’s what some folks like. I’d love to see all the sides available throughout the week.

HANGINGWITHMR. COOP! Finally came to this location here in Chula Vista. It’s a lot bigger in size and has more seating than the location in Lemon Grove. One thing that didn’t change was the good food and great service. Got the usual items: — Brisket: my fave. Tender beef(better than saying: my favorite, soft meat. lol) — Beef Ribs. I like the ribs where the meat just falls right off. This was a little chewy. — Puiled Pork. another one of my favorites. — spicy bbq sauce is my go to sauce. Sides: — Corn bread — potato salad — red beans and rice — baked beans Dessert: — buttermilk pie. oh yea, that was good! Wash it all down with some sweet tea. Only thing missing was a loaf of sliced bread to eat with the bbq. Mr. Coop himself came out and talked to everyone eating, making sure their meals were up to par. I’d come back. Love me some BBQ!

My family went to try this place. Yum! The beef brisket was tender and had a good smoke flavor. My 6 year old doesn’t normally like barbecue, but he really enjoyed the Small Boy Beef Brisket sandwich. I like that their barbecue sauce doesn’t overpower the meat. The baked beans were decent and had a flavor which was kind of fruity and reminded me of pie. Their coleslaw was not mushy from sitting in dressing which I think is great. I tried the Buttermilk pie to see what it was. It was interesting but only okay. The crust was soggy. The meats were great, and the service was fast and friendly. My only complaint is I wish the dine-in meals were served on plates with real utensils. I’m not sure why they use plastic utensils and styrofoam boxes for the combos. My father-in-law is from Texas and was impressed. We will definitely be going back.

The best barbecue in San Diego comes to the south bay. What’s changed from the original location? Lots of seating — the leather booths are a nice touch. There’s also more parking available. But don’t worry — the food is the same delicious barbeque served at the Lemon Grove location. Choosing a favorite meat from the menu is like picking your favorite child. If I had to though, it would be the beef brisket. Tender, hearty, and full of the flavor imparted by the slow smoked process that Coop’s is known for. You won’t need any sauce, but they offer two different types if that’s your style. As for sides, I am particularly fond of the baked beans. If you visit on a Sunday, be sure to try the yams — slightly sweet and a great complement to any of the meats available. Don’t forget to try the sweet tea as well! The service here is also top notch. The cashiers are extremely friendly and helpful. I have brought many people here and the cashiers are more than willing to offer up suggestions on meats and sides. The food also comes out quickly, even when I’m with a large party. If you’re lucky, you may even see Coop himself — despite being extremely busy, he always takes the time to greet customers and strike up conversation. Overall, a fantastic addition to the Chula Vista restaurant scene. I look forward to adding many inches to my waistline here.

My partner in crime insisted this was better than that one particularly famous BBQ place by the sports arena. I myself find that BBQ too be too salty(which is amazing because I’m Asian and soy sauce for everything) Anyways, Coops is tucked in the same lot as Atlantis laser tag and VIP buffet near the chula Vista mall. I opted to order the two meat plates, the beef ribs and beef brisket. I can’t comment on the pork due to me being allergic to them. But anyways… Holy crap, such tender beef! I like the fact the sauce is on the side and was flavourful but not salty! The beef fell off the ribs and the brisket doesn’t need a knife, you can cut it with a fork. So delicious. The two sides was the beans and veggies I think? Both were excellent. It also came with cornbread. All were very good. It was a lot of food so i had to take it to go. And my friends do know I can put it down so I was quite upset that I didn’t finish it. Next time! I’ll finish the entire thing

The ribs are fall off the bone and delicious. The staff is extremely friendly. I had the beef ribs, my aunt had the pork ribs, and their cornbread was delicious. My little cousin, who is vegetarian, had the red beans and rice side and potato salad, so there is something for everyone at Coop’s! The only issue was with the beans, that particular batch was a little heavy on the molasses. I have leftover’s for lunch today which is a huge plus.

Absolutely delicious… thank you and welcome to Chula Vista… At Last we have real bbq not that Croon’s stuff across H St. My bf and I were here Friday nite and had their rib tip special which included lots of tips, 2 sides, corn bread and sweet tea all for $ 12.99. Then embarrassed to say, we were back Saturday nite… I had the same and bf had the brisket plate plus an extra side of red beans n rice. People…it’s that good… thank you Mr. Coop.

Chula Vista just might be the next BBQ stopping spot for San Diegans! Woohoo! Coops is still working out a few kinks, but I’m going to give them the benefit here since they run a great ship over in Lemon Grove. The brisket sandwich … that’s all I need to say folks. Get it and make sure you save some for later too or share with someone. I’d love a different bread option buy what really matters is the meat. Tender and just the right combination of fat and meat. Grooms BBQ has my heart as well on H Street — but now I have a choice and I like choices. I can’t speak to the ribs because, my family would be shocked if I ever bought someone elses ribs; it’s too fun to make my own :)

Their grand opening was on Saturday the 26th. It was hard to find this place! The place was pretty busy and it looks like they had live music outside. The prices are very reasonable. We ordered the triple threat plate– it comes with 2 sides and cornbread. We got the jerk chicken, ribs, and brisket. For the sides, we had the red beans and rice and potato salad. We ordered 2 sweet teas for a dollar each. The meats were delicious and flavorful. My bf loved the beans. The tea was ok. It was kind of weird to eat with plastic silverware and paper plates. I guess it’s easier to clean up. ;)
