El Primero Hotel

Sol and Katie were welcoming and very accommodating. Our room was excellent. My boyfriend and I had a great breakfast the following morning, and check-​out was prompt and easy. I’d recommend this hotel for families and those locals looking for a quaint experience

Nice management. Hotel and room was clean overall, yet very small. The walls are really thin. If you are looking for a good night’s sleep, look elsewhere. Woke up to different sounds of footsteps and any movements of our neighbors throughout the night and early morning.

Comfy bed, free wifi, free parking, great location, excellent hosts, and breakfast all for a very reasonable price! The owner is kind and friendly (which made us feel awful when we rolled in at 1 am and he had to come unlock the front door for us :(So if you’ve got any wild nights planned keep this in mind…).

This is a great little hotel. The owners restored the building in 2006. They are very friendly. The rooms don’t have numbers, they have names. Super nice place to stay. A wonderful free breakfast in the morning too.

Wasn’t as great as I thought it’d be. I was hoping it’d surprise me since it’s the best in the city and the positive reviews it has received. I appreciate the kind service, and the complimentary breakfast they offered. 2 stars deduction was for the hotel itself. Probably needs an overhaul. Upon entering the hotel, it just felt quite and gloomy, giving away a bad vibe. The room is small, bathroom smaller and wasn’t modern. Honestly the only walking space was around the bed. Bonus for having white sheets.

A wonderful breakfast with a great staff that really cares was hard to beat with this little boutique hotel downtown Chula Vista. Karen and her family made us feel like we were part of their family. Nicely decorated, art deco and a cool place. Definitely would stay here again.

I have stayed at the El Primero a number of times and I will certainly keep coming back when my travels take me to San Diego. It’s well located and the owner/​managers are lovely — you won’t get better service at the chain hotels. The actual hotel is what I would call Art Deco style and has been refurbished to its original glory.

Was in town for concert at the Sleep Train Amphitheater and this location was perfect: 15 min. from the venue-​15/​20 min. to Downtown San Diego and Coronado Beach, we trucked around every where with ease. The room was small but perfect for the two of us. Everything was clean and the bed was very comfy. Breakfast in the morning was delicious, just would have liked to have had something different on the second morning of our stay… The courtyard eating area was very quaint and nice to sit outside in the morning with breakfast and coffee. The owners were so very nice and accommodating, they were great. It was a double edged sword having to ring the doorbell any time we needed to enter the hotel: it was nice because it made us feel safe once inside and know that not just anyone could walk in. But on the flip side we wished we could have come in as we pleased at least during the day… It made us fee bad to disturb the innkeepers to get back in even if we just need to run across the street to the ⁷⁄₁₁. And also when we got in at 2 am, but we were never made to feel a burden, it was just our own mind. All in all its a great stay for the price.

Quite pricy for what should be a called a motel for 110 /​day given that they don’t change sheets daily. Ive been to cheaper motels where they change sheets daily. However, breakfast has lots of fruits for vegetarians and her egg quiche is delicious. Won’t be going back because it is too expensive.

What a gem. Room little small very clean. Mr Pie very friendly and welcoming called by my name. Breakfast was very good. Would highly recommend

A hidden gem in Chula Vista run by a wonderful family. Sol, Pie and their daughters are very accommodating. They make sure your stay is everything you expected and more. They truly treat you like family. This B&B is very well priced and the location is centralized. The price includes much more than Corpoate runned hotels such as: delicious homemade breakfast, relaxing accommodations, free WiFi and free parking. They also have a connection for transportation, talk to Karen. On Thursdays they have a small Farmers Market just a block away. We bought food and brought it back and ate in the courtyard. There are also quite a few places within walking distance to eat, shop, the bus stop right in front of B&B and the trolley is not far.
Please support small business owners. I promise this place will not disappoint.

(Keep in mind this is a B&B if planning to book here, that way you know what to expect from it) This place exceeded my expectations. You get what you pay for (room, breakfast, parking and wifi) and even more (amazing people that truly care for you). I stayed with my boyfriend for 3 nights and 4 days. We went during the week when it’s slower (Apparently it gets crazy busy during the weekend). The owners (Pie and Sol) are just a delight; the kind of loving grandparents everyone wishes to have). One day we woke up 15 minutes before breakfast was done and Pie called our room to kindly remind us about breakfast and to not feel rushed if we were busy. The neighborhood around this historic hotel was really nice too. Despite previous reviews indicating that the surroundings looked shady, we highly disagree with them (pizza place across the street, streets well lit and there is even a police station 3 blocks away)
We will definitely come back if we visit San Diego again!

Had a great night stay here… so glad we found this little gem :) For some reason this past week in San Diego (07÷22÷15) all hotels have been completely booked out, and the only ones left were dingy and overpriced. I was completely excited I found this place, and wish I would have found it a little bit sooner. It really does make you feel like your transported back in time. The outside of the building and décor of the lobby is very cute and retro. We got to stay in The Abbey room which had a full size bed, but was so very comfortable that my boyfriend had a hard time parting with it lol. The rooms are very clean and well kept. It’s a very simple place so for anyone looking for extravagance in amenities then you may want to try a pricier hotel in downtown, but if you’re looking for a perfects nice sleep with a healthy complimentary breakfast then I highly recommend it. I could write more, but it’s best enjoyed by actually going. Have fun !

This B&B is Chula Vista’s best hidden gem. My girlfriend and I stayed here one night while exploring San Diego and I’ve never felt more at home at a hotel. The owners and their daughter immediately made us feel welcome, showed us to our room and even gave us a brief history of the building.
The hotel is in the Third St. Downtown area and we both felt very safe. The parking lot is gated and our room faced the parking lot so we could keep an eye on our vehicle. The rooms are small but we only needed a place to sleep so we didn’t mind.
The breakfast in the morning was great. Bacon, sausage, lots of fresh fruit, cereals, etc. This B&B was actually cheaper than almost every other hotel in the area so not only did we get a great deal but we had a wonderful stay. I would recommend this place to anyone in the San Diego area. Even if you’re not planning on hanging around in Chula Vista you can hop on the trolley at the station up the street and ride into the downtown area.

Stayed here for one night. Called the hotel ahead of time to see if I can check in earlier. Karen, who I believe happens to be one of the managers here, was so nice and helpful over the phone. She managed to get my room ready by 1:30 (check in is at 3pm). When I arrived, you sure feel welcomed and comfortable. The rooms are all named by different iconic places in San Diego. Very clean and cozy rooms! Everyone there is so nice! To top it off, free wifi & free breakfast! Will be staying here again in the near future!

«Pleasant surprise»
This historic hotel has lots of «pleasant surprises» to offer. Upon entering it offers you a welcome home, away from home. The owners Mr & Mrs Roque gives you a feeling of family. And yes, the breakfast is awesome, which the owners prepare themselves. Fresh fruits, fritatas, cereal, different kinds of breads, hard boiled eggs etc. but the best is Mrs Roque’s banana bread, it’s soooo good !!! Slept like a baby in a hotel, boy that’s a first for me. Thank you, God Bless !!!

Great hotel. My family and I truly enjoyed our stay here.
The rooms are large with a homey feel.
In order to get in someone has to open the door for you. The security is appreciated. We bought lunch and ate it in their courtyard, there’s only a wall between it and the street, however I felt like I was in my back yard.
The owners/​staff are very kind, flexible, and so nice. We will definitely book here again.

Wonderful people. Great experience. I truly enjoyed my stay here with my boyfriend this weekend. This hotel made me feel at home. I was sad to leave but will be back soon. I hope.
