Lutheran High School of San Diego

My review is from when I was a student here several years ago.
Please do not bring your children here! During my time here I felt abused and lied to by most of the staff. My family paid just as much for me to be here as everyone else yet I was treated poorly.
Mrs. Kundy lied to me when I first transferred here from New York. I asked if my grades would be transferred from my old school (I had a 3.4 GPA from my old school) and yearbook photo since I was starting a little over a month into the semester. She said Yes. Well neither were ever transferred so I had a blank photo in the yearbook & had to struggle with my grades since I hadn’t been in the classes since the beginning.
Miss. Anna Meyer continually gave me low participation marks in religion class for asking questions or having my own beliefs. I would ask questions like what is the difference between the light that the lord made one day and the sunlight from the next? Whenever she couldn’t come up with an answer like clockwork I was slammed with a D for participation that day. Or when I said no my parents separation did not affect me. My mother has done an amazing job & I do not feel like I missed out on having a «father» in life. Anna did not seem to agree because I got a D that day too.
I can’t remember what the history teachers name was but I remember the male students saying they’d «make love to her» in nice terms as long as she had a paper bag over her head. She must not have made it as a good teacher because a few years later I saw her working at the shoe section at Nordstrom. She lied to me too, technically the whole class. She gave us a essay based test on a day that we only had 30 minutes to finish. Not one student finished because of the little time we had so she promised we would have another period to finish. Because I had studying so hard to asked her every other day when we would be allowed to finish but she never gave a straight answer. 3 weeks later she handed us back our unfinished tests graded only on what was finished. I was so upset because she had SAID WE WOULD BE ALLOWED TO FINISH. When I brought this up she acted like she never said this and started yelling at me that she was the one in control. She told me to stay after class. Of course when we were alone she threatened that she would make my time at the school miserable if I ever spoke up again. No one in the front office seemed to care when I told them and Mrs. Kundy even said I should say that I was sorry.
The worst of all was the principal. She accused me of slashing another students car tires because I wasn’t technically a senior and couldn’t go to Senior Nite at Disneyland with them. What she didn’t know what that I did in fact go to Senior Nite with another school and was already at Disneyland when his tires were supposedly slashed. She was fully in support of illegal activity when the seniors did not go to school but when I was gone for vacation reasons she tried to threaten me with a suspension. When a girl was selling CD’s with photos of «the students» without permission for her own personal gain the principal did not care because she was personal friends with the girls parents. The photos of «students» we’re photos of the girl with the same 4 people and some kids in the background. When I tried to make the yearbook better and even came up with a Video Yearbook idea that would bring money back into the school which they would have full control of what went in they refused in a meeting with my stepdad and then took me off yearbook. They did listen to me when I mentioned that one student (whose mom worked in the office) was photographed more then 17 times yet others only photo was the one they took at the start of the year & equalized it a bit in that years book.
When I was on yearbook I was told by a teacher that the worse the student looks in a picture the better. How awful! I entirely did not agree with this. When kids look back they want to see good memories, not a HUGE picture of themselves in mid banana bite.
As for myself? I think I’ve turned out pretty awesome. I’ve had the opportunity to work with Weezer, do concert photography, help coordinate some of San Diego’s largest festivals & now own a very successful business where I can let my creativity be free.
Just please take a second look at this school, surround your kid with a staff that will help them grow not push them down.

LHHSSD is highly effective in educating above the minimum academic requirements as well as investing in our son’s character and leadership development. They are equipping him to lead a successful and productive life post High School. We are beyond satisfied with our son’s experience and highly recommend this school to anyone who is tired of their child falling through the cracks, being a demographic and test score. Go Knights!
