This place is a gem.
You would never know it is here. It’s an oasis hidden away in the city of San Diego.
You feel as if you have slipped far far away to another place, yet it’s in the convenience of our back yard basically.
There is so much to do here for the kiddos and the adults, Like go-​carts, basketball, pool, hot tub, movies, etc. Huge outdoor kitchen darling campsite you can rent a cabin, a tent, bring your own tent or your own trailer or rv. This place has it all.

Staff is very friendly and helpful as well
Can’t wait to go again!

We’ve been coming here for a few years. The grounds are amazing (climbing wall, bicycle rentals, bouncy facility for the kids). The staff is amazing (went to the office looking for ball lube to purchase, talked to a staff guy, he brought some from the shop within 30 minutes to our site). We left a day early & they didn’t charge us for the day. Amazing stay!

San Diego Metro KOA has become, without a doubt, our home away from home.
My husband and I have a 32 foot travel trailer that we take down there as often as we can. From the time you enter the front office to check in you feel like part of the KOA family. They are welcoming and ready to help. The sites are big, clean and kept up so well you would never know anyone had been there before you.
We take our grandkids ages 5 – 14 there once a year for our annual «Grandkid Camping» adventure. They have a blast!!! There is so much to do at any given time during the day. Rock wall climbing, the pool and hot tub, arts/​crafts, cookie decorating, jumping pillow, activities in the backyard, which is a HUGE area in the back of the campground with a sort of track built around it in case you are in for jogging. Beer and wine tasting for the adults on occasion, movie nights, live entertainment. The list goes on and on. There is a bike trail close that will lead to the mall or to the marina and park (about a 15 – 20 minute ride).
We just came from our first Thanksgiving weekend away. It was FANTASTIC!!! We relaxed in the cool fall air by our campfire at out site, participated in the beer tasting that they offered, took many walks and just spent some quality time. You can be as involved as you want or you can just enjoy relaxing and watching the stars.
KOA San Diego… our home away from home. So relaxing and good for the soul.

This campground has always been a favorite. Until our most recent trip. The fact that the pool /​hot tub were closed for the first 2 days was a drag. We got over it. The noise from the major construction was handled when we were given an upgrade to a cabin. Excellent customer service. The problem began after we moved from site 1413 to 1409. We got ourselves settled in, and took our 2 dogs (Siberian Husky, and Chihuahua) to the dog park. Another favorite. Aggressive dogs are never fun. Here’s a tip, if you have DOG AGGRESSIVE DOGS, LEAVE THEM HOME. After a quick run, we came back to find our iPad’s had been stolen. And our camp site had been picked through. NOT OK. I do all of my banking, bill pay, etc with this iPad. So after contacting all of my contacts, etc. we decided to wrap up our mini vacay. The usually very helpful staff didn’t seem overly concerned about any of our complaints. So unfortunate. We will not be going back. Shame on you San Diego KOA for not addressing our problems and offering to help.

San Diego Metro KOA is like a campground on steroids.
If you would even call it a campground? Which, I wouldn’t necessarily do so.
It’s like the campground equivalent of a blockbuster summer movie. You know, the movies that are all special effects and spectacle? It’s just like that in campground form.
Rock climbing wall? Got it.
Arcade complete with pool table and gunslinger carnival-​esque game? Yep.
Walk-​up diner with outdoor dining area complete with surfboard tables and California Dreaming playing in the background? Yep, yep, and yep!
They also have an outdoor pool, a variety of bikes for rent, outdoor movies on occasion, tons of activities for the kiddos, hot tub, and fully equipped camp kitchen with several stations for camper use.
It’s bonkers.
I mean… I’m not complaining. Bonkers is good on occasion. If you are prepared for it.
But, if your hope is to get back to nature and enjoy a little peace and quiet. This is not your jam. Not remotely.
But, if you’re looking for fun, sun, and lots for the kiddos to do while you enjoy a beer at a surfboard table – then, my friends… step right up. Spectacle awaits.

Me and my family just stayed here in an RV lot considering it was Labor Day weekend it was really packed which we expected, the lots are good sizes, seems like they were prepared with tons of staff on duty & lots of activities for the kids. My kids had a blast. Staff was great with kids very friendly ! A few minor compliantly is that the toilet paper was always out in the bathroom luckily I thought ahead and brought some of our own and the bathrooms were only cleaned once a day. Considering it was a holiday weekend I feel it should have been more well kept and stocked. It also didn’t seem like there was much security at night that kinda bothered me We will visit again for sure!

Our kids and I went like 3 months ago and it was awesome it was my first time and our kids first time and they had a blast it was not that many people and it was really peaceful I would go again I would definitely recommend this place

Was there 2 nights: one night tent camping, spot 1306, nice and shady points, and cabin 1405, not too shabby being the one closest to the camp kitchen! (I’d love this spot more if the crows wouldn’t have pooped on the screen tent I had over the table from the their treetops). The cabins have plastic cushions for each bed, one full/​queen and two single bunks. There was also a small desk and a little night trunk/​table. All made out of log, absolutely adorable. They have a broom in there to keep tidy and a place to put a paper towel inside the cabin. Ours had an electricity outlet as well as lighting and a ceiling fan with bathrooms and the camp kitchen super close (did I mention their dog park!!!).
Aside the crows (which woke me up when tent camping but not in the cabin, they pretty much stay out of the way), this place is awesome! They also have the cleanest bathrooms and showers I have ever been too (and yes, with running hot water everywhere!), these folks have everything for the kids — rock climbing, covered swing set, bikes/​trikes to rent, restaurant on site, laser tag, jumping pillows, lollipop parades, and SOOOO much more!
They have everything you can buy in their camp store, from ice to propane to charcoal to souvenirs… and if that isn’t enough, there’s a Food for Less within walking distance (just make sure to lock your car, our tent campsite neighbors got their rented van broken into, one of the boys forgot to lock it, French group of kids touring, poor things, they were so sweet!). They each have a fire pit as well as a charcoal grill, but let’s say you forgot yours, NO WORRIES, they have amazing camp kitchens where you there are stovetops, clean sinks, and a HUGE propane grill. I’m telling you, just pack clothes, toiletries and get your food on the way! It’s a great place to build the love of camping into your children as you build to work on other places — say Yosemite.
I almost don’t want to write this review just so I don’t reveal a hidden jewel of San Diego. Lastly, the desk help was amazing, especially Alleyne (spelling??), with all the patience in the world helping me book another future visit. She and everyone in that office are SUPER SMILES AND SUPER KIND (I literally rode my bike there at 7:15 in the morning and was watching these employees go into their store to begin work at 7:30 and they were all smiles! Who does that now a days with customer service??).
They were super accommodating and understanding about early check in to the cabin due to the plans I had for my son and I, they were FULLY cooperative and accommodating. I can’t rave more than I can, it was a great time and very bummed that this place is always booked, just gotta plan with anticipation! Thanks, SD KOA for the memories!!!

We’ve been staying here for the past 7 years, we started tent camping and then tried there cabins and now we are RV camping and I must truly say it’s an awesome place to stay. They have activities for the kids and it’s safe for them to ride around in there bikes and just hang out. We noticed this time around that there’s some new staff and it made it a lil irritating checking in but that won’t detour us from coming back, we used to stay at Campland but it’s too crowded here at KOA it’s just right for me and my families liking.

This is our 4^th time camping here and will be our last — what an incredible disappointment. We originally reserved deluxe spaces and were told they have «buddy sites» where our two trailers can be facing each other, so that’s what we reserved. We get here with our large trailers with slide outs and there is literally 4 feet of grass between our two trailers. The kids have to play out in the street we set chairs up behind a trailer … We literally have more space inside than outside. Unacceptable and there only answer was «we are full». 80 dollars a night and this??? Extremely disappointed clearly they just added these spots on to make more money without caring that there is not a reasonable space. KOA you have lost our business going forward.

A great KOA. We stayed here for Comic Con 2015, and biked back and forth to the convention center, which is 7 flat miles. The campground is clean, the bathrooms are clean, the showers were hot, and the staff was friendly and accommodating. We’ll definitely be staying here again!

Stayed here numerous times. We’ve had group sites, multiple individual sites always accommodating for our party. Campsite is clean & secure (surrounding area is a bit shady) but inside KOA very secure. Employees drive around at nite. We’ll be back again soon!

I think the friendliest people in California work at the San Diego Metro KOA. When arriving, we were helped by an employee who very quickly upgraded our campsite (we had reserved and paid for an economy tent site) to one near the front and under a large tree, since the weather was looking stormy.
Our site was clean, with a firepit, table, and grill. Even though we were close to the RV sites, we couldn’t hear the generator noise at all. The next three campgrounds down from us were empty, so we felt very secluded and peaceful the entire time. The restrooms and showers are clean, there’s a pool, hot tub, playground, and laundry facility. It’s the perfect place for those who are traveling and want a hotel without the hotel price tag. And for the location, it can’t be beat. We were awakened around 5 AM by a group of ridiculously loud crows, but it’s not like the campground can control that, and they backed off after a half hour or so. If you’re a light sleeper and you’re staying in a ten, just bring earplugs so you can sleep in.
I’m an avid backpacker, and never dreamed I’d stay at a KOA. But I was so pleasantly surprised by this place, and I’ll absolutely be back the next time I’m in San Diego!

My fiancé and myself recently spent the evening at one of the tent campsites at this KOA campground.
Being an avid camper, I wouldn’t have personally picked to stay at this place, but I was meeting a group of people and thus didn’t have a choice.
I have to say that this was one of the worst «camping» experiences I have ever had. When first arriving at the campsite, it took me awhile to actually find the campsite as I had driven by it several times without realizing it.
The «campsites» are nothing more than a patch of grass on the side of the road. Our site, and apparently all other tent sites, were backed up against a loud freeway, and right across the road from a large maintenance yard /​RV storage yard.
There was a bright floodlight at that maintenance yard that was on all night, which essentially made our campsite bright as day and gave us difficulty sleeping.
You will notice that the campsites are literally right next to one another. You are packed in like sardines with no trees, rock or natural barriers separating you from other campers. I was shocked to see these conditions. There is no privacy whatsoever.
To top it all off, we were awoken at 4:45 am by no less than 1000 crows squawking in unison.
To their benefit, there are numerous activities to keep children busy, but I would still STAY AWAY from this «campsite».

The most clean, kept up, comfortable campground. Small, quaint and perfect for groups, kids, pets, and gatherings. They have EVERYTHING you need. Great for short trips. They have playgrounds, large grass field, 2 fenced in pet play areas, walking trail, horse shoes, pool, jacuzzi, picnic tables, market and café! Very relaxed feel. Clean restrooms and showers and friendly customer service. We have have been impressed!

We store our RV at the KOA San Diego — and when they have a weekend event, we like to go and join in on the fun! We are new to RVing, (just bought one on a whim driving back from Las Vegas this past Christmas) and so far we are loving it! Great family time — and travel, my two favorite things! Wifi is hit or miss. Sewage smells at time, depending on where you are in the resort. Staff is great, San Castle Café has nice coffee, breakfast items are good, baked goods are $$$ and so so. They use a local CSA for the Kale Pizza (yummy).

We arrived on a Monday and left on a Thursday. Park was pretty calm and quiet to our satisfaction. Park has great shade trees and the weather was very pleasant. There is a jump pillow area which is great for the kids. The staff was very accommodating when we asked for a fire pit to be brought to our campground. I can imagine that on busy weekends this place would be crazy busy with all the sites here. Very centrally located to Walmart and downtown San Diego.
The only negatives are that with such a large park there was constant maintenance happening which meant tractors and workers getting started pretty early. Nothing like the reverse beep signal to wake you up at 7am.
Also note they do not accept American express here. No delta skymiles on this trip :)

Campsites are very small. Wifi also wasn’t working-​would say it was connected and wouldn’t load. 1 – 800 help line for wifi was disconnected and no longer in service. Great for kids-​lots of stuff to keep them entertained.

Avoid busy times!
Our family stayed here from Sat morning to Wednesday morning on Easter weekend during spring break. CRAZY at the start (Sat and Sun evening and day). Not good in the middle. Fine by Wednesday morning, but NOT enough to make up for the earlier weekend experiences with over capacity, unruly groups of wild teens and lazy parents (who for example didn’t care where footballs were thrown — near lots of cars instead of in the grass field the park has; maybe not so much a problem if the players had known how to catch) and experiences with domestic strife — one couple could NOT KEEP IT TOGETHER and lost their heads, drinking and fighting into the night, prompting 911 calls and police (the woman did not press charges and the family we understand was banned from returning).
During busy times the park should staff accordingly!
The owners need to figure out how to keep the cabins, especially, from overflowing.
Avoid times when there are crowds. The annoyances are unrelenting.

Can’t beat this place if you have kids. We rented the larger family sites… and glad we did because the other tent sites near the store… they were like… um…small…
We went with several other families and we all had a great time with having electricity and near the big yard. The bathrooms are immaculate… the showers are better than most Motel 6’s. The location is meh… but you have a grocery store near… and believe it or not a really good sushi place.
This place the kids have everything and they have ton’s of activities for them. With the pillow jumpy, the suds parties, all u can eat pancakes, riding bikes, swimming… being able to have fires, etc… you can’t go wrong. For those wondering. fires? Well a lot of campsites in Cali will not let you have fires due to fire hazards.
