Yoko hems my jeans and my husbands dress pants. She does a great job and is hip to knowing about all the different jeans that are out there, and how mens dress pants/​slacks are being worn currently. Highly recommend!

Needed 3 patches sewn onto my daughters karate class right now. They were more then able to handle the job in 20 –25 mins I was out the door. Enjoyed poking around downtown so many stores. They were friendly and did the job fast and very well. Better then my wife that’s for sure. Thanks guys I’ll be back.

Great customer service every time I go here. I’ve had a blazer and pants taken in as well have my pant length shortened. Great job every time and they even did my pants on the spot the last time I went!

This place is horrid. I called to check if I had my bridesmaid dress taken in slightly on the sides but I needed the dress back in 30 days. The lady on the phone started laughing hysterically and started talking to someone in the shop mean while still laughing. Another lady answered the phone, I told her never mind I didn’t want to take my business there since they were so unprofessional.

Picked up a new suit for a wedding and needed the pants hem and the jacket sleeves taken in. They asked how soon I needed and I told them I had a week to spare. They said they can have it done in a day.
I had no concerns when it comes to getting pants hem’d but it was the jacket that I wanted to be sure was done right since its lined.
Shimaki did a great job! They relocated the last button on my sleeve and the lining looked like it was never touched. I will definitely return to have other articles of clothing altered.

Went here once for a dress alteration, no problem. Went back to have a bow-​tie styled belt made for my wedding day, BIG PROBLEM. I showed up on the agreed time of pick up (the AM of my wedding day) only to find my belt was never made! This could not have been due to a language barrier (all workers inside are either Japanese or Mexican) since I spoke to the seamstress in Japanese to explain what I want and when I would need it by.
To add insult to injury, I get a phone call about 30 minutes after leaving the shop asking if I would still like my belt made & that I could pick it up in 2 hours. No way! There is enough prep work and running around going on in anticipation of getting married without adding in an extra step!

Went here for the first time, in and out with alterations for work shirts.
Fair prices, great service and quality work.
Communication isn’t really a problem here, awesome Japanese family who are fun to speak with. They understand what you want!

This place is a real GEM! They will do simple alterations while you wait. The vibe is old school. I would never trust another tailor again. They will even sew your wire back into your bra! yeah! Amazing! I have been to other tailors that tell me «i can’t do that». or «I can do that but, it will take weeks and cost you a lot». NOT HERE. They are more than happy to do the big jobs, the complicated hems and special requests… This place is great!

Absolutely rude and unprofessional staff. The owner promised to tailor 11 suits for a major engagement a failed. No one called after a month I went to pick up the suits not one stitch had been sown. Had to contact the police to get a full refund.

I was referred here years ago by a children’s boutique as a great place to get affordable alterations. I have loved bringing my kids clothes here! My kids are super skinny and always need some kind of tightening in the waistlines. Any other seamstress charges up to $ 16 per pant, outrageous for just kids pants! I would attempt it myself if I had a sewing machine. It had been awhile since I visited here, but recently I paid half that and the work was done in just 2 days. The location is out of the way for me, but well worth it. The craftsmanship is meticulous and the service is impeccable. Be careful about parking at the meters, don’t just try to run in and out. The meter maids are hyper-​vigilant!
Tip: I usually try to pair up visits down here with lunch at Tacos El Gordo and dessert at Neiderfranks!

Yoko was great and everyone was very friendly. 12 dollars each to tailor 6 brand new Theory suit pants and done the next day. She even gave me advice on what socks to wear with European cut suits (evidently not the colorful ones I had walked in with for the fitting). Service, quality and inexpensive and hilarious advice. Can’t go wrong.

I’ve had my pants/​jeans hemmed, dresses altered for my daughter and myself and shirt buttons sewn on! Most of the time if they are not too busy they will do it right away. I wish I could give them more than 5 stars. Their prices are reasonable and they work very hard to please the customer. They are always very helpful. I would recommend them to all my family and friends.

Came here to get my wedding dress altered after reading all the positive reviews here.
I was working with Anna, who spoke very little English so right off the bat we were having communication problems.
I should also note that I live in LA, but am having my wedding in San Diego so coming for fittings and stuff was really a pain. So we went there several times to keep refining the alterations. The end result was great, but there was a lot of phone calls, translating, and harassing in between. We’d go to see her, but she would have left for the day already at 2pm!!! WTH! Or we told her to have specific alterations done by a specific date, and we’d show up and the alterations had not been done at all. One day, we came in and she had to go pick up her nephew from school because of some reason or another so we waited for an hour for her to come back. So frustrating!
Anyway, the dress is exactly what I want now and fits like a dream, but I feel like I could have done without all the drama of hunting down my seamstress.
All alterations (shorten dress, added petticoats, intake in the bust, and repairs to make the dress lay flat) all cost $ 180. So, not horrible. Customer service skills need to be improved.

Shimaki is a hidden gem in the heart of Chula Vista. My sister recommended the place when I told her I was looking for a new tailor. I went on a whim and took 3 pairs of pants to get hemmed and a shirt that needed new buttons.
I went on a Monday afternoon. I noticed on the window that they were closed on Mondays but the door was opened. I peeked my head through and a sweet older woman welcomed me into the shop. I asked if they were closed but the women said that since she was there she would help me. SWEET!!!
The woman showed me to the dressing room, had me put on each pair of pants, and measured each leg. She said she couldn’t alter my pants right then and there because she was ready to leave. Although she would have them ready the next day.
I also showed her that I needed new buttons on a shirt. The woman said she would do them for free. COOLIO!!!
The pricing for alterations is relatively inexpensive compared to what I’ve paid at other places. The alterations were spot on and my shirt looked brand new with the new buttons.

I stopped by Shimaki to get my pants hemmed. I parked in front of the shop and put a dime in the meter which covered 12 minutes. I figured I would drop off the pants, then return another day when they’re finished and I’m on my way.
So I go in, try on the pants, the seamstress pins the pants legs and says to me, «Can you wait? I can hem them right now.» I about fell over thinking, «are you kidding me?» And sure enough, she hemmed my pants in less than five minutes and did an excellent job of it, I paid $ 8, walked outside all happy, and there was still four minutes left on my meter!

Shimaki’s was highly recommended to me by a friend of mine and it truly is a gem. I’ve had many many items hemmed, taken in, etc. here and it’s always done well, quickly and their prices are super inexpensive. And have I mentioned that they’re fast?
Often times I’ve brought pants to get hemmed and the gals at Shimaki have asked «Do you want to wait?» I’ve brought pants in to get hemmed many times at other places, and it’s usually «Is next week ok?» Never had I had pants hemmed while I waited and it’s usually done in 5 – 10 minutes!

I took my daughters prom dress here for some much needed alterations. When we walked in a lady greeted us and ushered the girl to a fitting room. When she got in there she realized she only brought one of her heels that she was going to wear. Who does that? Oh my kid does that!
They had some loaner shoes you could borrow if you didn’t have any so she wore one of the loaners to help her keep her balance. The dress was shortened quite a bit and had a slight train that was removed. They also pressed it so I didn’t have to worry about running around and getting it pressed.
I paid when I got her fitted so we could just pick the dress up and run when it was done. The dress was ready as promised less then a week later. We were both happy with the results and we will continue to use them for alterations :) Thank you Shimaki!
