When I started training with Master Cody Springsguth I was coming off of two hip surgeries with limited range of motion, and just through his TaeKwonDo program my range of motion has increased and my hip pain has also diminished to a point that my physical therapist would’ve considered it a borderline miracle, considering that my doctor was telling me I most likely won’t be able to run again. Master Cody Springsguth has an ability that few possess, where he knows when to push you further and when you’ve had enough. And there has never been a time where I was not warmed up properly for class (which is extremely important for me considering my recent surgeries). Before training with Master Cody Springsguth I was preparing for the possibility that I would never do TaeKwonDo again, but through his guidance I’ve learned that I could even surpass my own expectations of what I could accomplish. His gyms motto is «Go Hard or Go Home» (which is posted in the center of the gym above the massive American flag) and that is his expectations of everyone who steps onto the floor whether it be cross fit, TKD, etcetera, because he wants everyone to see that through hard work and focus your goals can be met, and if your not there to work hard and focus then you might as well have stayed home because you’re just wasting your own time and money to get no benefit. In my opinion this is the only place to go for TKD in San Diego, and what I’ve seen of the crossfit program I believe the same can be said of that as well.

I’ve been doing TaeKwon-​Do for 15 years, which is also how long I’ve known Master Cody Springsguth. In all of my training and travels, I have yet to meet an instructor more dedicated to helping his students (of all his many programs) achieve their absolute best than he does. I have traveled from other states to learn specifically from him, because he possesses that one in a million ability to inspire a student to be the absolute best version of themselves. His Master level of instruction and expert knowledge of fitness not only includes intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, but also his ability to work with such a large variety of ages is truly unique. Quite simply, the level of instruction and professionalism that can be found here (not only in his martial art programs, but his cardio kick boxing and cross fit programs as well) can not be matched. The music that keeps everyone in the gym motivated changes from genre to genre daily to appeal to the eclectic taste of everyone who is there to work out. I may be biased here, but I find the review of an «adult» who leaves a business establishment (which hosts children’s programs) dropping profanity after profanity (which he openly admits) in the heat of a tantrum hard to put my trust in. And then to continue calling the owner more profane names on the Internet? Maybe this gentlemen is more acquainted with a gym where professionalism doesn’t have to be have to be a 2 way street. And to the comment regarding racism, that is just laughable. Master Springsguth is as racist as pigs can fly. The example he sets for his students (both inside and outside the gym) to want to achieve excellence and do their best in all aspects of life is truly a trait to be emulated. By perpetuating the ideals of courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self control and having an indomitable spirit, he helps strengthen our community by making us better people and leaders.

Do not come to this place!!! The owner/​trainer Cody is VERY UNPROFFESSIONAL he does not let Mexican-​Americans speak «Spanish» in his establishment. on Fridays its his way or the highway and you’re forced to listen to country music while working out. I’ve been going to this crossfit classes for 3 months, and although I have lost a few inches around my waist and some weight, but I’ve had to block out mental and verbal abuse, and also racist comments concerning the confederate flag! I stopped coming here and demanded a swift refund, which I got immediately. =) I merely was trying to warm up this morning before the workout of the day and the trainer Cody directed me to stop warming up, and start the workout. I disagreed and said «no, I’m going to warm up, because if I don’t I may hurt myself.» Cody doesn’t like anyone talking back to him in «HIS» establishment. On the way out I dropped a couple eff bombs, and said «you don’t black folks working out in here any how.» Cody responded «you’re right!»
Anyways, I just hope that other folks who have dealt with this prick will speak up on their experiences and write a review asap. because there’s a bunch of gyms/​cross fit/​martial arts places that encourage you and make one feel good with positive vibes after and during training. I strongly suggest you find a DIFFERENT crossfit /​martial arts center, unless you like racist/​hillbilly comments and some one belittling and humiliating you while you’re working out! Watch out! Cody will kick ur butt! Lol. Just moved in from Hawaii and it was a struggle at first to find another box to continue my crossfit journey. Such a blessing to finally found my second home. Very knowledgable coaches and will push you beyond ur limits. When I started training here I became more stronger, I lifted crazy weights dat I coudn’t imagine. Cody throws a lot of crazy jokes but watch out he is gonna yell at you in the middle of the wod! Lol. I found his coaching skills very effective to push ur self more and more each day.

I was visiting San Diego and wanted to keep up on my training so I asked around as to where I could train in Muay Thai. My brother said our friend trained here so I went to try it out.
Drew was very helpful when I called and asked about dropping in. He really made me feel comfortable and also assisted during our training session.
Mr. Springsguth trained us and really was great, focusing on technique and details. Even though I was just dropping in, he would also help correct my stance and other techniques, which I appreciate.
All the guys were welcoming and nice, too. I didn’t feel uncomfortable even though I was only one of 2 ladies. If you are looking to train properly in Muay Thai, I would definitely come here.
I also ended up staying for the cardio kickboxing class, which is after the Muay Thai class. OMG! What a workout! Mr. Springsguth taught this too and pretty much kicked my butt. Definitely, go here if you are looking to train in martial arts or just looking for a great workout. I had so much fun and will definitely be going back there when I’m back in San Diego.

My son has been training in TaeKwon Do for over 3 years with Mr. Springsguth. He was at another studio for over a year and the difference is night and day. Most studios that I’ve seen just hand out belts regardless of technique. Your basically paying for a black belt with absolutely nothing to back it up. Not at Socal Martial Arts. Here, students actually learn proper technique and won’t move forward until it is executed to perfection. I’ve seen black belts come from other studios & get out performed by blue belts. Seeing how great Mr. Springsguth’s students perform, I get sick when I see 8 or 9 year olds walking in the supermarket with a black belt. If you actually want your child to learn, there is no better studio in the San Diego area. If your child is currently at another studio, just come watch a class and I guarantee you will go back to your current instructor and demand your money back. Mr. Springsguth passion and dedication to his students and their success unparalleled.

I have been training at So-​Cal doing Muay Thai for almost 5 years and Cross-​Fit for a year. The classes are a blast. Both of my kids are in Taekwondo, and my wife does the cardio class. Mr. Springsguth is a great teacher and mentor for his students. You will have to search long and hard to find someone with his experience. It is truely a pleasure to learn from him. He has a sharp eye for detial and proper technique. His students are some of the best I’ve ever seen. Its no wonder why they all do so well in competition. I recommend So-​Cal to almost anybody because there is so much offered for all levels.
