The New Look Salon and Day Spa

I had a deal Groupon price ($ 37), the service (90 minute facial and head/​neck/​shoulder massage). The place is hidden in a strip mall. I arrived 20 mins early & they took me back 5 mins before my appointment. The facialist proceeded to remove the makeup off my face & rubbed something on me. She left the steamer on my face for a long time & left me. She then used a tool that was supposed to remove any blockage rather than doing the extractions by hand. It had a terrible high-​pitched noise. She then put a moisturing mask & told me that it would be best to put it over the eyes. I thought I would be open minded about it. She again left for a long period of time. She returned & used a facial fan brush to apply oil to my arms, neck & shoulders. Then she rubbed the oil rather than massaging it. Then she peeled the mask off my face & eyes. I don’t believe that it was a moisturising mask at all. My skin did not feel any different. She handed me a towel to remove the massage oil & left the room. I could not wait to leave there fast enough. The session also was 20mins shorter than what was listed for the service. I have had many facials & massages & never had experienced anything like this. I would not return here. A waste of time & money.

I really did not want to write this review because the owner Sally is so nice, but I don’t feel right not saying anything.
Before walking into New Look, I was already skeptical. Located in a shanty little strip mall, I wanted to hightail it outta there but I didn’t, because the one other Unilocal review on here was so positive. In the waiting area, I noticed the walls were really thin because I could hear a little child crying and complaining through the door to the office area… I should have been warned.
Now I am no stranger to getting facials, and I knew for the Groupon price ($ 37), the service (90 minute facial and head/​neck/​shoulder massage) could possibly be mediocre. The location was decently clean, but in my book this place wouldn’t qualify as a day spa. As I mentioned, the walls were very thin so you could hear the people in the next room loud and clear, and Sally kept the lights on the whole time. Okay, those are just frills, and not having them is fine with me as long as the service is good. Unfortunately, it wasn’t.
The door to the treatment room didn’t close all the way, so as other clients walked by throughout the service they could (and did) stop and stare at me laying there. Um, awkward! Also, the treatment bed was completely flat, with no pillow for the neck and nothing to prop up the legs. Not comfortable. But again, I can deal, if the treatment is worth it.
Of the 90 minutes advertised, I was probably only being treated for about 45, maybe an hour. The extraction part was more painful than I’ve ever experienced, anywhere! Yes, my skin is pretty gunky, but I have never had extractions done using only Q-​tips (and I believe that it is highly unsanitary). The worst part was on my nose — instead of using a tool like a lancet that can draw out sebum and oil, Sally used her hands to crush and twist my nose to get the grease to come out. I felt like my cartilage was shattering! I’ve gone though painful extractions many a time, but my face has never been sore the day after (which it is today). To top it off, I used a Biore pore strip when I got home yesterday after the facial and it still pulled out a number of blackheads, which tells me that the extractions didn’t do much.
After the extractions, Sally left a camphor mask on and let it sit. I assumed it would sit for about 5. maybe 10 minutes tops. She was gone at least 20 minutes, if not more. After that, the massage to rub in the cream-​oil mixture lasted about 6 minutes. Considering that I had just been waiting («letting the stuff soak in») for so long, I expected a little more.
I’m glad I didn’t pay full price for the normal facial ($ 65). It is possible that I just had a bad experience (sounds like Jenny V. had a number of good ones), but I wouldn’t venture to try it again.

I went here with a Groupon for a facial and massage. This was the first Groupon «experience» when they didn’t skimp on the services. When they said an hour and a half, I got two hours. And it was THE BEST facial I’ve ever had. My skin was crazy amazing afterwards. Sally, the owner, is so sweet and really knows what she’s doing. The prices are so reasonable and the service truly is amazing. I’ve already gone back twice and plan to be a regular customer. I don’t have much expendable cash, but do feel I deserve some luxury and pampering in my life, and Sally with New Look Salon totally gives that me! Highly recommended. …BTW — Don’t let the location distract you, it’s a total diamond in the rough;)
