Have been going to this place for at least a couple of years. Excellent Caterpillar roll and Gyoza. Always the best fresh ingredients specially the Eel which I always order. I’ve been to other places and Eel is usually to strong. Best authentic food and ambiance. Excellent customer service from owners. Hope they open another location closer to eastlake. Keep in mind this is on 3rd ave in Chula Vista. I’ve seen some reviews talk about Claremont Mesa …

I love this place! I have ordered take out here countless times. I’ve recently dined in, and I’ve got to say the services is awesome here! Very friendly staff, delicious food, fresh tasting sushi, delicious miso soup, not to mention fast! I will be a refuser here for years to come! Surprised I didn’t find this place sooner given the fact that I live minutes away.

Mediocre but charming. I ordered take out of 2 crunchy rolls, 2 california rolls and breaded chicken. The décor was very authentic japanese and the hostess was very welcoming. They didn’t have crunchy rolls on the menu, it was in the secret menu. Unfortunately, it fell short of being worth amount I paid. The sauce didnt stand out and my pregnant wife said that she didn’t taste fresh. She had super human taste buds and I would have to agree. The breaded chicken tasted like chicken katsu. I enjoyed this plate the most out of my order. I only tried a few things, I’m hoping this place has much more to offer.

I’ve been coming here for years and each time my friend & I get the same thing: the spicy chicken plate and the sweet and spicy roll. The spicy chicken plate comes with cheesy potato slices, which taste great, especially with the spicy chicken sauce drizzled on top.

I’ve been here once and that’ll be the only time I’ll step foot in this establishment. My husband and I only ordered rolls so we thought it wouldn’t be difficult to get in a timely manner. However, the sushi chef obviously thought otherwise as he continued to have shots with another customer. I was so frustrated that I was about to leave after 45 minutes of putting up with nonsense until the waitress finally put down food on our table. Really? 45 minutes for sushi? While you take shots and know that other customers are getting upset? Horrible! Don’t bother coming here for anything. Make the drive up to Clairemont Mesa for good Japanese food.

This was my first time going here, so I ordered the California roll. It was not good at all. Not sure what they added to the crab meat but it appeared to be some type of cream. Tomodachi sushi is much better.

This is the closest place for sushi from work. It’s not a very good place to sit and eat in for lunch since they are so slow. They are understaffed and it looks like it’s just the owner at the sushi bar, his wife as the cashier/waitress and a cook out back. The poor lady at the cashier always seems to be running around frantically. They do have basic sushi rolls like soft shell crab, rainbow, and caterpillar. I stick to the basics when I order from here. The good thing is that the fish is fresh and this place fills my sushi roll craving during the work week. I recommend calling in your order if you are on a time limit. The only problem is that they didn’t have any to go menus during my last visit and their menu isn’t online.

After reading the post by Jen about the Korean food I went over there for lunch today. This place has been here for a very long time and it has endured but I honestly don’t think I have ever been there before. I asked what offerings they had in Korean food and they had Daeji Bulgogi which is my favorite Korean dish a spicy pork dish. $ 8.97 including tax 10 bucks with tip since I was not happy. Well, this was absolutely without question the worst rendition of Daeji Bulgogi I have ever had in my life! It came with some cabbage that was colorless and nondescript. The pork had no flavor or spice or any Korean chile paste flavor at all. It came with a salad that was also listless. This definitely was the worst lunch I have had this year to date. I can get a lot better lunches in San Diego for 10 bucks with tip. Maybe the sushi is good here I have no clue but they do not do Korean well at all! I really doubt that I will be back.

If I’m craving sushi and I don’t want to go far from home, I go to Utage. I’m not saying it is the best sushi, but probably the best in Chula Vista. I like that there is a little secluded table in the back. I know they must hate it when I come in, but I always ask to be seated there. This place is most def family run and owned, they are super sweet, but speak only a lick of English. As long as you know what you want, and don’t need any explanations, it is A-OK. I like their pizza roll, a California roll with sauce, cheese, and then baked. YUMMY!

I’ve only been here once and it was a spur in the moment decision while cruising third avenue. I would have to say it was around nine pm when I walked in. At first, it seemed as if they were closed from the outside. As I walked inside, I was pleased by the dimmed lighting all around. It had a suttle relaxed atmosphere to it. I was feeling it. I ordered the shrimp tempura combo with California rolls and rice. The food came out fairly quickly. They only had a couple at the bar so it shouldn’t take long either way. Having had the same plate at other sushi places before, it was average. Everything was good, but nothing special. I was definitely enjoying the comfort of being alone in a relaxed, quite and dimmed restaurant. Customer service was decent. The lady was doing her job but she wasn’t too attentive. She didn’t smile at all throughout my meal. I wouldn’t mind coming here again. Next time, ill bring someone with me and go around the afternoon.
