This is one of those sad, little hotels that was probably built sometime in the 50s and keeps getting sold to progressively cheaper hoteliers throughout the decades. It now exists as a cheap lure to weary travelers looking to save a few bucks with its«but it’s late and you only need it to get some sleep» promises. Trust me — spend a little extra somewhere else. I guess I’m a bit old fashioned, but I tend to believe that hotel entrances should be welcoming. This one is a walk down a narrow, dreary and dimly-lit corridor to an equally tiny and dreary lobby, complete with slowly blinking O-P-E-N faux-neon sign. I kept glancing around for a chalk outline, half expecting Jerry Orbach to step out and deliver a snarky one-liner. The room had that old, musty, hard-to-pin-down-exactly-what-that-smell-is smell. The towels downright stunk. I can’t say the room was particularly dirty in any specific way, but it just had that worn out, dingy feel about it. The fiberglass bathtub was badly cracked and per Old Hotel Regulations, the shower head is only comfortable for those 5’6″ and shorter while the temperature can only be adjusted by THINKING about it. Actually touching the controls will alternate between flesh-melting hot and privates-shriveling cold. The WiFi was more or less non-existent. Two of our three devices wouldn’t even connect and the one that did got .32 Mbps download. Ouch. We’re talking 1990s dial-up speed here, folks. You weren’t really planning on getting any work done, were you? And, no, I didn’t bother contacting the front desk to see if they could fix it. I’ve stayed at enough hotels and requested the WiFi be fixed enough times to know I would just end up disappointed. Look, we’re all trying to save a few bucks, and I’m sure there are plenty of cheap-but-worth-it hotels out there, but this isn’t one. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. You’re worth it.

Let me open with this: There was blood in my sheets. While you ponder that let me continue to list the rest of the problems with the room: The wifi didn’t reach my room and wouldn’t allow me to log on. Very spotty service. I wasn’t given any information about the wireless at check in, I had to call the front desk and talk to the manager who was clearly annoyed that he had to deal with me. The iron in the room was missing. There was a significant amount of hair in my bed that was not mine. The room was extremely hot and smelled awful when I first walked in. It cooled off pretty quickly when I turned on the AC but the smell remained. The bathroom appeared clean but gave me a bad vibe. There were a lot of unsettling noises in the night that woke me up(This hotel is in a terrible part of town. I would classify it as a light industrial area). The locking mechanisms on the door were pretty pathetic and would do nothing to stop an intruder. It was by far the worst place I’ve ever stayed in my entire life. I ended up sleeping in my clothes on top of the sheets and checked out at 5am. I’m going to think long and hard before ever considering an econolodge again. Everything else awful aside, someone they hired decided to make a bed with bloody sheets rather than change them. That is completely unacceptable.

We(mom, I and 2 dogs) spent 4 nights while in the area for dog shows Memorial day weekend. This is a great value and while it may need some updates there was nothing wrong with our stay. We arrived about an hour before check-in time and got right in. Due to reviews on other sites we inspected the room first, it was clean and odor free. There was a fridge, microwave, ironing board and hair dryer in the room. We were given an iron upon request to use. The room was a bit cramped and the wall mirrors were too far to lean over the table for one of us to use for putting on make-up. We only had am coffee and did’nt try the cereal or danish. Coffee was better than the stuff we had at the RR on the 2 day drive. The walls had a fresh coat of paint and the matresses appeared new when we inspected for bugs. No complaints :) Some things are dated and could use replacing at some point: the air conditioner worked well on hi-cool 10, when we turned it down to lower settings it did’nt work as well, the lamp shades are old as well as the tub/shower insert and other bathroom fixtures. We only had 2 typical scratchy shower towels and 2 wash cloths, no hand towels. We found a Wal-mart and bought a couple big bath towels, no biggie. Great price and acceptable accomodations.
