Enterprise Rent-A-Car

Reserved a car a few days in advance. Gave my Driver’s License #, Name, Address, Email Address, Phone #.
I arrived Friday at like 9:10am. I’d reserved a car for Friday 9am-​Monday 9am. To go on a trip following work Friday. Walked in, counter guy asked for my Driver’s License (to check with reservation info I assume). Then a credit card, handed him what I use daily. Then he asked for a Utility Bill. … Huh? He said it was policy. I don’t normally carry my Duke bill with me, but he refused to do anything more for me until I produced it. He claimed it was apparently in their Terms/​Conditions for reservations if I’d read them through online when making the reservation, then pointed at the inter-​office menu they printed out and affixed to their countertop.(I uploaded a pic).
I said that mine is a credit/​debit card and he could run it as a Credit Card (as I always do EVERYWHERE), but it said the word «Debit» on the face of the card that he couldn’t accept as per policy. … Ok, now I’m looking at being late to work. … I even asked if I could find an ATM and pay with cash, he said No. I even offered him a dividend check, unopened. My Name and address on it. He said I could have Duke Energy fax a utility statement to him. I didn’t have any of my billing info/​account #, and that would be 30 on hold anyway, and I had to be at work in less than 45 min at this point. {{I’m a pretty chill dude}}, and this was endangering my impeccable work schedule as well as possibly my weekend trip. As I decided to return home to see what I could find to prove what my Driver’s License and all other corroborating evidence that they already had, even though I’ve been paying my bills PAPERLESSLY for years.
I had to GO HOME, grabbed the last month’s worth of unopened mail and returned to Enterprise. I had Bank Statements, Stock Dividend Account Summaries, even an unopened birthday card from my mom, all showing my name and address. NONE were acceptable. It had to be a utility bill (remember-​paperless). I was trying to keep my F-​bombs aimed at the policy and not the poor guy that had to enforce it that I was dealing with, but I encouraged him to quote me to his superiors by telling them «F**K YOU». He was surprisingly resilient. I asked him how often this situation happens, he said, «just about every other customer.» So this is a KNOWN PROBLEM. Maybe it was there when I reserved the car days earlier, but I obviously missed it, and many others have as well. You have our emails. EMAIL US the day before to remind us about your unusual rental agreement provision! Maybe we can prevent this EXTREMELY NEGATIVE interaction. I told the counter guy that there was no way I would ever rent from Enterprise again.
Completely baffled and thinking I was going to cancel my trip, he said, «What phone service do you use?» AT&T. He asked if I had a bill for that, I said «NO! I pay through an AT&T app! Do you take AT&T app!!!» I sat down so I didn’t do anything stupid. Last ditch, I pulled up my AT&T app on my phone, and it had a «Email a PDF File of Your Bill» option for some reason. I emailed that to counter employee. I got the car.
Somehow I got all of this done in less than an hour, though I still arrived to work late, and to the surgical room that was awaiting my presence, patient already on the operating table. THANKS ENTERPRISE!!!
Whatever the reason for your ridiculous policy on debit cards, you have lost me, most people reading this, and as many people as I can tell, and I’ve told everyone I could in the last few days. Do some cost/​benefit analysis of whether it is important to keep this policy in place and so unwavering. Seriously, I provided bank statements, etc. I could have bought that econobox with what I have in the account on that debit card. Terrible policy. Lost customer for life. Kiss my ass, oh, and kiss my patient left waiting on the operating table’s ass. Surgery went well, no thanks to you.
