One night I found myself craving some nice hot«pi dan zhou»(a kind of Chinese rice porridge with eggs and pork). I knew there was no way I’d find any in Cincinnati, but I stepped out the door anyway because I’d just made myself hungry. As I stepped out of my apartment, I passed a Chinese restaurant flyer, and one word caught my eye: «zhou»! I thought it must be a typo, as this is Cincinnati, but I looked at the English translation and it was for real! Well this was some time ago, and I don’t remember how the ‘zhou’ was, but I do remember finding that they make very authentic Chinese food without the often misguided compromises Chinese restaurants tend to make towards what they believe to be the American taste. The staff was very friendly and gave some excellent recommendations. Definitely a place to try if you want some authentic Chinese food in Cincinnati. Really, I can’t believe I just typed«authentic Chinese food» and«Cincinnati» in the same sentence…
