We came here to get some cheese. All the stores here have paper card numbers for you to take your place in line. After a short wait you have to opportunity to pick out numerous cheeses from all around the world. Don’t be shy to ask for a sample. The prices are a little expensive but if you get a ¼ pound of a few selections you like it won’t break the bank.

It took me forever to discover this place. It’s on the side of Findlay you probably don’t walk down and in a non-descript building. And with all the other delis around, who cares, right? Oh but you walk in, and there’s that really distinctive stink. I say stink because it walks the fine line between delicious and a bit funky. And that is the stink of a legitimate Eastern European deli. A smell rarely smelled outside of markets in Europe and Russia. Never fear, they have plenty of normal stuff. But even if you aren’t in the mood to buy, stop in and check out the large variety of mysterious loaf/sausage things imported from Europe. It does get a bit crazy on a Saturday with people bringing in full grocery lists because, like I said, they have a lot of unique items despite Findlay having it’s share of quality butchers and strong German influence. But the five stars? It’s really about one thing. The German potato salad. It’s…just…heaven. I mean, German potato salad, on an off day, puts the American mayo version to shame. It’s vinegar based, but often sweet at the same time and umm… bacon duh. Krause’s does not skimp on the bacon. Huge chunks of it. And the sweet and vinegary combination is just heavenly. So it may seem irrational to go this crazy over potato salad(because really… the whole idea is kind of lame) but it simply means that you haven’t had theirs yet.

Two words: CHEESETASTING. No, I’m not talking about a formal event. I’m talking about every day at Krause’s. Krause’s has fantastic, amazing cheeses, so many things you’ve never heard of before. And if you’ve never heard of it before, how do you know if you want to serve it at your dinner party? You don’t – unless you taste it. Which is why, all you have to do is ask, and they will slice off a bit of whatever you want to try. Especially when it’s not busy(when it IS busy, like on the weekends, it can get a bit hectic). But I’ve been there during the week when it was slow, and it was a fantastic opportunity to try(and buy) a number of new cheeses. If you are looking for some interesting options for a wine and cheese plate, you absolutely should go to Krause’s.
