I have been trying to defend this Kroger for 2 years now but unfortunately I may not be continuing to be a regular anymore. Yesterday, because of management in the Pharmacy I «accidentally» purchased a two versions of the same drug. When I tried to purchase the correct one, the pharmacists did nothing to help. I ended up unnecessarily paying 10 x the amount I should have. Once my doctor clarified the mistake, they refused to take back the drug, which I understand but… it was their error. Last week a man who did not want to walk around my 7 year old in a busy aisle called us, «dumb ###» and later while shopping when I told him to keep his abusive words to himself he continued to berate us. Not a lot of class in this store. This makes me sad because as my neighborhood grocer I want to support this place.

This store seems to be stuck in a cycle of failure, like most of this neighborhood. It cannot attract consumers who will buy its more premium products, so it carries fewer and fewer of them, so its potential premium product buyers — of which I and my neighbors are some — have even less motivation to go. It’s unpleasant enough to hear about the serial rapist who has struck nearby, or to witness the ignorance or callousness of many of the other customers. Or to have my grocery cart suddenly freeze in place because I parked too close to the border of the lot, and have let the cart get too close to the disabling strip. But I would put up with all of this and more if I could just buy what I wanted. For a period after the renovation, they carried beer that I actually like. I was *very* excited by this and would stop there just to buy my beer. That lasted maybe a month. They also carried veggie bacon, and multiple brands of veggie crumble. Now there is no veggie bacon, and you’re lucky to find one brand of veggie crumble. I could understand both of the choices above, but not the next one. Lately, they have been trimming down their selection of FRESHHERBS. I was told that their management had made a deliberate choice not to carry *fresh basil*. Basil. We aren’t talking marjoram here, or even sage. They won’t carry basil except when it is manifest in tasteless miniature flakes in a tiny jar. Try shopping here next time you want to throw together a Caprese salad. I understand that you can’t sell expensive beer or weird«food» that only vegetarians want. Not in the ghetto. But you, a grocery store, are presumably there in order to sell the food items that one uses to cook, and basil is a damn common ingredient in cooking. I will say this for them: the cashiers are nice, and they and the baggers work harder than they do at the Kenard(Mitchell Exit) Kroger. But you can’t escape from bad management. After the loss of basic staples that I need to cook, I don’t know if I’m going back.

The one good thing about this Kroger is the Hispanic selection reflecting the population surrounding the area. The remodel was wonderful but unfortunately this branch did not change management along with the store. It has been open for only a year or so but it already looks very old and often the shelves have out of expiration date items — as pointed out by another reivewer. I also have difficulty locating some of my products that I normally purchase in other locations. Still, compared to what it was, this is a VAST improvement over the old store. They did keep the tile mosaic on the outside which was nice of corporate — and the only reason I gave it 3 stars. I always mention a review of a branch Kroger with how hard condoms are to purchase because I think it’s funny. This Kroger sitting in the middle of a Catholic, Hispanic neighborhood has them behind glass which means you need to locate an employee to unlock the case for you. Good luck with that…

I had high hopes for this Kroger when they remodeled it, but it has started to slip back into its old habits. The one good thing about the store is they put locking wheels on the shopping carts to keep their customers from pushing them home. While this might not seem like a big deal, it is when you consider the socioeconomic factors of the surrounding neighborhood. Prior to the locking wheels, carts used to be littered all up and down Warsaw and the surrounding neighborhoods. Kudos to Kroger for locking them down. If you’re looking for a good beer selection skip this place… unless malt liquor and bud/miller/crap is your game. The wine selection is, however, fairly decent. I’ve been pleasantly surprised many times. The Hispanic section is pretty good and reflects the diversity of the neighborhood. I’m able to sample a lot of good salsa and other products that I normally wouldn’t come across. If you like coca cola made with REAL sugar, they have that too in that section. I Ike it, but after a couple sips my stomach tightens… but hey, there are purists out there who insist that using sugar cane to make coca cola is the only way. Warning; be sure to carefully check the expiration dates on products before purchasing. This store tends to let their stock sit until it sells… if you know what I mean.
