This Kroger is probably my favorite one. Before moving from nearby Mariemont to the other side of town, this was our«home» grocery store, even though there was a Kroger right in our neighborhood. Our favorite check out lady, «Miss Elsa» was warm and friendly and always positive. She’s since retired and left her station in the capable hands of Becky. The store is always clean. It’s somewhat newly renovated and has a great Murray’s Cheese Shop inside with a knowledgeable consultant to tell us about the selections available. And the wine tastings are great with food pairings based on the selection offered. I’m not a huge fan of Kroger in general. Management is hit or miss and merchandise is a moving target.(I was told that they change the location of certain items on purpose to keep you guessing and hunting so that you pass more stuff you may be likely to buy. I really hate that.) But the people we deal with here make it worth traveling all the way across town to shop here about once a month.

A very good kroger where I do the majority of my grocery shopping. Nothing but great things to say about the staff, they are very friendly and personable. Fresh produce and a good variety however I have noticed that the seafood does not always look the best often dried out and or bruised. Prices are slightly higher but to be expected for the area. Also the parking lot is small and with the amount of business they do it can be tough to find a close spot on the weekend.

Madeira Kroger’s cashiers are the worst! They don’t greet you, continue their conversations with co-workers rather than check you out, and some even wait to see if you will bag your own groceries. The people at the customer service desk and the deli are always friendly and helpful. However, the system at the deli is terrible. They always ask if you want to wait for your order or if you have more shopping to do. If you say you want to wait, it takes 6 minutes to slice ½ lb. of ham. If you tell them you have shopping to do, they say your order will be ready in 15 min. But when you come back, it’s still not ready. They definitely need to work on that. Overall, I try not to shop at Madeira Kroger bc if I’m spending my hard earned money there, I expect to be treated like a live customer.

The Manager at the store is a JOKE! The guy is so RUDE. Never will shop at this store again after shopping there for YEARS! The other thing that bothers me about this store is that they remodeled in like 2003 – 2004? then they remodeled again in like 2010?!? Less than 10 years and they made the place look AWFUL. The dark floors and colors of the store doesn’t look as nice as the older remodel. It was so inviting and bright. Now it’s dark and lanes feel way smaller. The manager is the one guy that I can’t believe is even in management. Saw him hanging and chatting with the«Younger/Teen» boys a little too often. Kroger needs to investigate that. Didn’t see anything awful but still made me feel like something was wrong.

The refresh that Kroger had a two years or so ago was a good improvement but it still has it’s quirks. The best part is location in the heart of Madeira. Due to this location though Kroger can’t expand so it is a smaller Kroger. This is were some of the disadvantages are as there are not as much selection as you would find at Hyde Park and Montgomery. Unless you have high tolerance to crowds and being hit by carts do not attempt to visit the Kroger during week day mid day hours.(Yes I was hit by someone with a cart at this location). During non-peak hours after 6pm and later there are way less people shopping. Don’t go too late as Deli is closed by 9pm and sometimes earlier than 9pm with staffing.

This Kroger recently reopened after 4 months of renovations and if I was writing this review on the old Kroger, it would be lucky to get 1 star. It was filthy, with dim lighting, and expired food. The new Kroger, is a huge improvement, as you would expect after 4 months of renovations, but it still lacks. I’m not a fan of the reversed entry and exits, and the fact you hit the produce first, only to squish all of your fresh fruit and veggies as you progress through the store. Also, for such a large store they lack certain items, fresh basil, and Cabot cheese come to mind. By all accounts I feel this grocery store is just OK, but I’ll admit my standards are high after living in Publix territory for the past 4 years.

With super supermarkets becoming all the rage, with your Super Targets and your Wal-marts and too big I can’t find my way around Krogers, it just gets to hard to find the actual food in those places! To everybody’s relief, Madeira Kroger is just a plain old grocery store. It’s an older style Kroger but for me that’s a plus. No frilly Jewelry section or clothes. Just food and a pharmacy. Maybe it’s just nostalgia kicking in from my old local Kroger before it became Mega-Kroger, but I enjoy coming here. They have everything I need and I can get in and out in a jiffy. The parking lot is a little tight to maneuver, but nothing that shopping at 9pm doesn’t solve.
