Madeira Optical

I had a wonderful experience at Madeira Optical. This was the first time I’ve had my vision tested in 15 years, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. From the moment that I booked the appointment, through the consultation, I was treated like family. Being a novice, I found the process easy, with the added bonus that the employees were very nice and helpful.
Dr. Pence determined that I could benefit from a slight prescription, but didn’t pressure me to purchase glasses through her business. I found this very refreshing, so I took the time to look at my options. They have a good selection of high quality frames and I found a pretty cool pair of Nike glasses, at an affordable price.
I recommend Madeira Optical to anyone who wants a family atmosphere with great service and an affordable price. I’ll definitely be a life-​long customer.

As today was the second time I bought frames from Madeira Optical, I felt that a review was in order. (Please note that this is only for the glasses shop — I have not tried their optician.)
Unexpectedly, I have now a favorite «local» glasses store. Small and cozy, I never knew this place existed until two years ago, despite having lived near the area my whole childhood.
Their glasses selection is smaller than a chain store, but that is characteristic of «selection.» For frames with character and without an alienating personality, this is a place to visit. Last time I was looking for plastic frames, I was even luckier to find frames for people with low nose bridges (Asians like me appreciate that). Price range is slightly higher, at least for plastic frames, but they do look quite nice and some come from afar.
The staff especially creates a great vibe in the store and makes choosing frames relaxing and fun. This is a big deal for me, an indecisive shopper. I was given time to look around without stress, and their advice was as warm and genuine as if I had come with a group of friends for consultation. I started with one employee, but by the end I had gotten feedback from all three in the store. An excerpt for illustration:
«Hmm, these frames both look really nice on you, but I see two different people so it makes it hard to choose. Karen, what do you think? Go show them to Karen.»
«Come closer! My eyes can’t focus that far. Hmm…» (looks me over) «Tortoise over the green. I don’t know why, I just love tortoise with dark hair.»
For warm, sincere help in finding frames, pass by Madeira Optical. A tip for anxious car parkers: we used the bank lot next door. (shh!)
