Driving from Wisconsin to brainerd mn and stopes to play. Staff was great, price was great and course was great. Challenging but fair I would recommend to anyone in the area.

Pebble Creek is a very unique course. It really tests your skills and rewards smart players. When we got there, they told us that it would take about 5.5 hours to play. It took about 5, but it didn’t seem like that– I guess you spend a lot of time looking for balls. We didn’t have to wait much and neither did the group behind us. The course was in really good shape. Excellent shape actually and it’s very beautiful. However it’s a gimmicky course. I think I used my driver 3 or 4 times. A lot of «L» shaped holes and a lot of hazards. It was the first time I used my range finder and boy did I need it. The greens were in really good shape and stayed pretty true to your read. But again, they were thin, long, and had several putt-putt type of greens. It makes it very tough to play well. Maybe it’s that I didn’t play well but I think most would say it’s a hard course to figure out. The landscape was beautiful. The clubhouse house is an old plantation looking building and very scenic. Hole 16 is an island hole(yes, I lost one to the water like many before and many after). And the people at the bar were very nice Overall I liked this course and will play it if someone asks, but you can’t walk it and I need to practice a little more before I try it again. Have fun!

Having been here a few times, one thing I have noticed is the lack of service. The waitresses and bartenders seem to be lost in a thought train with no hope of ever getting back on the rails. Watched people in my party finish drinks, while waiting to get a refill — walking to the liquor store would’ve been quicker. Also, they do not know how to properly plan for large parties and overbooked their seating — asking us to basically leave(ok so they didn’t ask us to leave, just to condense onto fewer tables — which made people cramped and decide to leave.). For a country club on a golf course, this place has much room to improve. The food is generally good, and if not the kitchen staff is quick to remake it to your liking(though personally I don’t think I should have to return food to get it done right). If you are willing to take risks, this is a great spot for a party — though you’d probably be safer booking at a more organized and professionally run establishment. Outside of large groups, the place is pretty nice — and the service is generally on line with a truck stop restaurant. Can be a fun time and I’ll definitely go back(hopefully they’ll read and fix their minor issues).

Amusingly short is what comes to mind here. That said, PBGC is just downright beautiful. Tucked away in the northern suburbs, the people who bought put a lot of work into it and really rehabbed the area nicely. Granted, they did build up a lot of homes and shorten the course considerably, but they made up for it in careful maintenance and some truly amazing vistas. There are several holes that I would say could be their«signature» holes. My favorite is a par 3 with a remote green. You actually hit out over this valley that has a significant carry to it. The actual distance to the hole is short, but it’ll feel much longer, trust me on this. There are two other holes that use PBGC’s one pond to great advantage, and both of those are quite pretty, as well. Like most Cincinnati-area courses, PBGC’s main problem is yardage — there is very little. Many of the par 4s are drivable and par 5s are similarly short. The course does do a pretty good job of making up for it with traps and hazards. The other big problem is all the homes that but up against the course. On several holes you are in extreme danger of breaking windows. In fact, there are many holes where you’re better off laying up to prevent such an occurrence. I can speak from experience that some of the homeowners don’t really get that they live on a golf course. One guy is trying to sue me, in fact. So be prepared to deal with that if you have a bad slice. I would highly recommend signing up for PBGCs email newsletter. They offer some really good deals year-round. Overall, the course is quite the steal and very pretty to play.
