Pilates for Runners

I started going to Pilates for Runners in early January 2012 just to see what it was all about. I got hooked and I’ve gone ever since.
I decided to try Pilates for Runners as cross-​training for my first marathon. Over six months of doing it once or twice a week, I have gotten so much stronger. I honestly believe it had a lot to do with me being able to successfully complete that marathon and I wish that I had had something like this to work my core back when I was a more serious runner in high school.
Before I started Pilates for Runners, my main form of exercise had always been running. I didn’t have much experience with instructor-​led fitness classes, having only gone to a handful of yoga classes. I didn’t know what to expect going in to it (pretty sure I thought Pilates was Jazzercise), but Kristine was very responsive to my email with questions and helped calm my nerves. I never felt out of place at the classes; there are attendees (including non-​runners) of all different levels and Kristine is great about describing the basics and helping people work on their form.
The classes have remained useful and enjoyable to me even as I’ve grown stronger. There are many modifications Kristine can mix in such that the hour-​long class is always a workout, no matter what someone’s particular fitness level is.
I am really going to miss having this exercise option now that I recently moved out of Cincinnati! I know there will be Pilates studios in my new city, but the classes with the running twist are very unique.
