Receptions Banquet & Conference Center

Out of all the Receptions Banquets I’ve been to, this one is my least favorite. The lighting inside is not so great and it looks alittle rusty/​old. Positive: Staff is friendly and food is fair.

Having attended events at other Receptions locations, I knew what to expect. Good food in a no-​frills formal setting: for extravagant architecture, look elsewhere. It makes for some bland wedding pictures but gets the job done of hosting a fun, efficient reception.
For the wedding I attended, the hall uncomfortably sat 300 guests. The tables were wedged in tight, and with folks standing in the aisle to chat, it made it difficult to navigate around the facility without bumping into anything. Receptions did a good job of sticking with the bride’s colors: purple. All of the accent lighting in the room was purple, and the proper spotlights were placed on the wedding party and parents’ table.
The food, on the other hand, was delicious. Our couple had a buffet style dinner:
— Bread: golden and crispy on the outside, warm and fluffy on the inside
— Salad with amazing ranch dressing (I actually get excited about eating at Receptions knowing they serve this particular dressing!)
— Lumpy mashed potatoes with skins
— Penne pasta with sundried tomato and cheese
— Beef, carved of a skewer, garnished with horseradish
I ended up getting seconds from the buffet, particularly for the bread and ranch dressing. The pasta was delicious too. As much as I enjoy beef and horseradish, I wasn’t a fan of this cut. The meat was luke warm, and that made me skeptical.
I had mixed feelings about the service. The bar ran efficiently, although the plastic wine glasses were tacky. The servers were friendly and polite, however, they were slow to bus the tables. There were 10 of us at my table, half of the plates were removed. My date and I were already finished with our cake (about an hour after dinner) before a server asked if she could take our plates. My date’s got bussed and the server said she’d be right back for mine. I scooted it out of the way onto an empty placemat, where it sat until midnight when the table settings were dismantled.
I did really enjoy the woman who was cutting the cake. At the end of the evening, all the leftover cake had been cut into individual slices and wrapped in Take Away bags. This was a fantastic way to make sure leftovers didn’t go to waste, especially as there were at least 50 extra slices of cake.
If you’re on a budget, check out Receptions. They do a decent job, but expect a standard afterparty rather than extravagance.

If this place is dirt cheap, then maybe, just maybe, you should book it. Otherwise look elsewhere.
I went to a rehearsal dinner here recently. The décor is boring, the space is small (for reception halls), and the staff seemed to be annoyed that they had to work. You would think that free food might redeem this review, but no, it was also bland.
The highlight of the evening was the homemade desserts that the mother of the groom had brought. Thank God for that, but unfortunately that can’t count toward this establishment’s rating, so one star is all they get.
