Okay, I don’t think this guy likes serving women. I actually was going to get something, but I got a bad vibe and left it on the counter. The place is full of like gun signs and other really crazy right wing stuff. Like signs about how he’d shoot someone for stealing and that sort of thing. This guy actually was wearing a gun in a holster. No, I will never go back to buy anything from this place. I’d drive hundreds of miles or order something online just to not shop here. Shopping here is not supporting the little guy. I’m actually afraid to say how disgusting and frightening the experience was because the man is obviously not sane. Do not go here.

The owner is more concerned with spreading his political agenda than running his business. I am always needing little odds and ends. This store would be perfect for those needs. Unfortunately, the service here is so abysmall, I wont set foot in here. Any time I have asked questions, I am met with unhelpful stares. I am convinced that the owner grasped his gun inside his jacket during one interaction(to be fair, my project clothes made me look homeless). Even if I am mistaken about the gun incident, its unprofessional to have bumper stickers with threats directed at your customers behind the register. I am sure I will receive a reply to this review with some name calling and some bragging about 61 years in business. I’m sure this place was great in 1954, but you have to take proactive steps to be a competitive business in 2014. As a fellow small business owners, I’d love to support this store, but I can’t.

I grew up in Mount Washington, and recently traveled back to the neighborhood to help my father move. I go out of my way to support local stores instead of big box, and Salem Hardware seemed a natural place to visit for some of our repairs. I asked what I thought were simple questions, yet I was met with a mix of dismay and disgust from the guy working there. I obviously left, and I still have no clue what I did to set the man off. Sadly, I took my business to Home Depot on Beechmont.

If looking for a «TOOL» ask for Steve. What a zero when it comes to personality. Customer service also a zero. I lived on Beacon St for over 25 years. I always enjoyed going here for the friendly service. I continued going here because we all need to support the little guy. He was very rude to me but I was the bigger man because he is very small. He easily told me that home depot was right down the street. After explaining my frustration with his lack of intelligence, my Mom explained how my late father was asked to never return to his store, years ago, because my Dad interrupted his 5 minute phone call to ask for assistance. If I had known that I would have told him where to go. I will tell 500 friends about his __hole tact. Please spread the word.

This is an old fashioned Hardware store – and by that I mean a small space packed with everything you can ever imagine. Don’t take your man here unless you wan to lose him for hours.

Being new to the area and a guy that loves old time hardware stores Salem Hardware hit the mark. Unlike the big box stores you can actually buy the 1 nut that was missing from your new Chi-Comm swing set. I try to support these old time hardware stores whenever I can… really a part of America that is just… cool. Crammed from floor to ceiling with a really, really big assortment of everything any homeowner could need, this place will see alot of me when I tackle those 4 trip to the hardware store plumbing projects. Very small parking area is only reason not 5 stars.
