I like a place with ballfields and Schmidt seems to have plenty. Nestled snug against the Great Ohio River, Schmidt offers many low quality ballfields for Softball and«Kid Glove» enjoyment — whatever that means. The fields could stand a little more care. There are many divots and low spots in the dirt and like many fields I’ve seen, the outfield seems to be residing at a lower elevation than the infield. Lights are a definite plus making this a prime spot for after work games, though it’s a bit dark in straight away left and right field. Sadly, port-o-lets are your only restroom option. Located close to Tostado’s for pre and post game drinks.

Our Unilocal softball team plays on these fields. I believe it is ran by the Cincinnati Recreation Commission and to be honest these were good fields. I know there is little to no funding with everything the CRC takes on and I was impressed that the field was nicely cut, had dugouts, a fence that was in decent shape. There are a ton of fields, at least 10 I would say. There are also lights for night games which is nice. Maybe my expectations were low going in, but we always have a great time here! This is also part of a boat ramp that goes into the Ohio River. This is a nice clean entry. No trees obstructing anything. SCHMIDT is pretty solid all the way around.

Unilocal softball league played at this field. My husband is one of the players so I just come by for the moral support. The cool thing about this field is that is very secluded, plenty of parking and a walking trail near by. The bad thing about this field is no real bathrooms. I understand it’s a field but if there are events happening here on a regular basis then there should be a bathroom solution. They do have portable potties which were not clean enough for any of our players to attempt to use.

Schmidt Field is an okay place to come and play some softball. Being right next to the river is a picturesque setting. When not focusing on a game, you can look west and see some of the downtown skyline. The fields could be better, but they’re not the worst I’ve seen. The outfield grass is allowed to grow too long. Ground balls through the infield will stop way before they ever get to an outfielder. Parking here is never a problem and there are plenty of spots where you don’t have to worry about your car getting hit by a softball.

I had never visited Schmidt ballfields before but I get the impression that it’s been at least a public boat ramp for a long time in cincinnati. The reason I ventured here was for the new paved trails. Schmidt is now the furthest west completed point on the east side of the ohio river trail connection. You can run east all the way to lunkin airport through the Congress trailhead and past the future site of the Carrel Street Station. The trail is very wide and smooth with ample room for multiple bikers and pedestrians. I would say that when the Ohio is very high, much of this section of trail is under water. I’ve not used the ballfields or the boat ramp but they both look functional and both were in use by many people on a tuesday afternoon.
