Such a needed eclectic art store in downtown Cincy. The employees are friendly, conversational, and lovely. They have an interesting selection of individual art supplies, which is nice when you only need one or two items to pick up for a project. I could easily see myself getting carried away with how many ink pens I needed in here. The prices were higher than say, Michaels, but I’m always willing to support smaller business over the corporate alternative.

Nothing bad to say here. Came in a while back for a sea sponge for a craft project. I called several other stores, with no luck, before deciding to stop by Suders to see if they had it. One quick request for the nice employee and I had my choice of three nice sized sea sponges at a VERY reasonable price. That being said, I’m not really an art aficionado or artist by any means, however I figure if they have the random sea sponge available you can probably get just about anything here. On a side note, the store looks a little gloomy on the outside, but don’t be fooled, it is very different inside than expected.

I needed to visit an art supply store for a couple of the more hands-on Christmas presents I was working on. My bf thought this would be a great opportunity to visit Suders, which is directly in our backyard(er, parking lot). What a fantastic store! Suders is packed wall-to-wall with a rich variety of art supplies. The bf, as a student of Miami U’s art program, has seen the inside of plenty of art stores in his career, and he seemed truly impressed by the little shop. I say«little» but this shop is actually quite expansive. The main supply room seems small because it’s so full of materials, but there is another room full of easels and the like, as well as a massive back room with work space. The only problem we had came down to using one of the Gateway Quarter gift cards. These things have been a pain in my arse, if I do say so myself. The problem lies in how infrequently people use them– ours was the first card that Suders had seen in nine months, so they had trouble activating it. This is not the first time we’ve run into this inconvenience: Senate does not take them«yet,» and Little Mahatma doesn’t accept them at all. But that’s hardly Suders’ fault. The cashier managed to get it to work finally, and we were in no hurry. I still walked out with an armful of high quality art supplies and a high hope to return soon.

Great selection of art supplies, but situated in the ghetto. If you need something, park and run. I am all about supporting local business but if you could please put that local business somewhere where I’m not likely to get shot or mugged, I’d so appreciate it.

Suder’s has been THE art store for Cincinnati artists and students since 1924. Whatever your creative needs, from serious sculptors and painters to the weekend crafts person, you’ll be sure to find it here. If you can’t, they are happy to order it for you. For the ‘self taught’, they have a great selection of instructional books to further your development in your medium of choice. Additionally, the brushes and other materials are offered in a wide price range, so the budding hobbyist doesn’t have to break the bank to get started. They have an extensive selection of fine papers from Japan and France for drawing and printmaking in standard 22″ x 42″ sheets or 42″ x 20 yds rolls. As a printmaker, I’ve saved serious bank here. To top that off, they offer discounts to students, teachers, and professional(starving and not) artists.
