Even though I can’t roller skate well, I went to Western Rollarama as it was the first stop on a West Side Pub Crawl. It’s a fairly standard roller skating rink geared towards family and school aged kids. The best part of Western Rollarama is the concession stand: the candy and soda are incredibly well(read low) priced. Since this is a family establishment, they do not serve nor allow alcohol inside.

Celebrated my son’s birthday here. Its not expensive and they play really good songs to get you going on the floor. It would be better if they decorated your table at least with a tablecloth. Their pizza could be better also. But overall I would return.

Not a single thing has changed in over 10 years. If you grew up on the West Side and you’ve never been to Western Rollarama than you were either deprived or incredibly accident prone. This place is a throw back to a time past but is still great fun for kids of all ages. I go to at least 2 birthday parties a year here and have fun every time.

Like, seriously. Roller skating, like, totally, rocks! Like, when my first crush held my hand to the slow song, I almost died! It was, like, so rad! Then when they did the hokey pokey and I almost fell! So embarrassing! Oops, sorry, had a time warp as soon as I entered Western Rollerama. I immediately was back in grade school and all the drama that the skating rink could hold on a Friday night! Now it was my fifth graders turn to experience the skating rink and it appears to be the same type of ambience. Crappy sound system, horribly cheap food, same showoff boy who will only skate backwards, along with all the same cheesiness and drama! You can’t have a normal childhood without some good ol’ fashion rollerskating and Western Rollerama fills that milestone for all youngsters. Came on a school night, so it was $ 5.00 to skate and rental, so not sure of a normal day, but the kids were all having a ball! «Oh Mickey» just started so I gotta do my best backward skate! See you on the rink!

Unfortunately the woman with the beehive hairdo and the bad attitude is no longer working the window but this throw back to my childhood still smells the same way it did when I was attending skate parties in third grade. I became a bit of a rink rat in high school and spent most weekends eating bad pizza and speed chasing on the floor. The last few times I stopped in made me realize that time really can freeze. The floor is large and still in good shape. The music selections haven’t changed much in the past 15 years. The food is bad and pretty much what I used to get. I’m pretty sure you could rent a pair of skates your mom used when she was a kid. For anyone who hasn’t been, there is a wonderfully bad western theme, old wagon wheels and cutouts of John Wayne decorate the wood paneled space. Call ahead for hours and rates, the rink has struggled some in the recent past and rumors that it temporarily closed a few years ago were going around. Look for your local roller girls hitting the floor at the Rollerama.
